So much ado about nothing. :) but before you go and hate remember these are two different genres of sci fi, one is action aka Star Wars. the other drama aka Star Trek. Star wars galaxy is smaller then star treks that's the way Lucas wanted it so action moved quicker. Star trek was to be like a western or soap opera to the stars. slow exploration with the occasional star battle if need be that's how Roddenberry wanted it. to compare the two is folly. Enjoy em for what they are entertainment

Actually, what you are saying is very false.

First of all, warp 9 is NOT nine times the speed of light, it is 1516 times C (Speed of light) and secondly, Star Wars ships travel many many times faster than Star trek ships.

In Star Wars, ships travel from one end of the galaxy to the other end in days while in Star trek, ships can do so in 70-80 years.

You are right, there is no competition between Star Wars and Star Trek.

The various species in Star Wars have been at a technological dead-end for millenia. Which explains why a light-space freighter can successfully spearhead an attack against the Death Star II.

Calling the Falcon (the fastest ship in the Star Wars Canon) a light freighter is like calling the presedential state car a car. You are technically right, but it doesn't help your case.

Hyperspace lanes are navigated routs through space that make sure you don't hit anything. They weren't built by anybody. They were scouted, and scouting hyperspace lanes is still a job in the modern Star Wars universe.

I suggest they use ludicrous speed as noted by Dark Helmet, as light speed is too slow. keep in mind a ship traveling at the speed of light would take 4 years to get from our Earth to our neighboring star system (Alpha Centauri). Warp speed is actually more feasible, but the amount of energy required to fold space/time is greater than the power of our own star and is 'light years' away from reality.

@FederationStarfleet Also, Lasers don't affect Federation shields. Federation Shields are also magnetic. Blaster weapons cannot penetrate "magnetic seals" at all. Not to mention, the old Enterprise can destroy cities with just it's phasers, and can even level an M-class planet's surface, as per the Original Series episodes "Mirror, Mirror", and "A Taste of Armageddon". The old Enterprise is 86 years old in Trek time, making it the OUTDATED MODEL.

@Idazmi7 Why people continue to confuse Star Wars lasers with the LASER we humans know and can produce is beyond me. The use of the word laser in Star Wars doesn't mean it is a LASER used as a weapon. Any type of laser in Star Wars is a particle beam weapon which, in the case of a turbo laser, is far more powerful than a phaser. An Imperial class Star Destroyer would make quick work of any ship the federation could throw at it while suffering almost no damage itself.

Since no one told us how big the Starwars galaxy is, here I should say Starwars galaxy is the smallest galaxy I've ever seen

@FederationStarfleet Federation ships are able to warp the space in front of them, allowing them to move through it faster, (warp speed.) In Star Wars, ships move through "hyperspace," which is outside of normal space. I don't think there are any references to exact speed in Hyperspace, but the method of travel is entirely different.
