Hey, I got an idea! Join the Air Force and work on Aircrafts. Learn some of that Avionics technology or Jet Engines. Thank you for you voice. I know you are being sincere. So many soldiers have told me they have seen and done (or not done) that they regret. I have felt the pain of my friends who had to follow orders against what they saw as right and it isn't something you ever get over. I was a military wife for 4years (my husband recently got out). I also have to say, as far as the money goes, you will get by while you are in but when you get out you won't easily fit into the civilian economy.
Marine veteran here and the former MSgt is absolutely correct... coming back from the Middle East I was hailed by family, friends, and complete strangers as a hero... I didn't do anything heroic or fight anyone who ever poised a threat against the United States... very conflicting emotions.. when you return and realize you weren't defending anything or standing up for anything

But if Bin Ladin was killed in a firefight rather than a gestapo raid, nobody would be debating the issue of whether we could've taken him alive. This individual seemed to have neglected the countless humanitarian aid the Armed Forces provides, more then any nation in the history of. As well as the opportunity for many young adults to learn self-discipline, a trait that is severally lacking today. Thank you for you voice. I know you are being sincere. So many soldiers have told me they have seen and done (or not done) that they regret. I have felt the pain of my friends who had to follow orders against what they saw as right and it isn't something you ever get over. I was a military wife for 4years (my husband recently got out). I also have to say, as far as the money goes, you will get by while you are in but when you get out you won't easily fit into the civilian economy.

Now that I think about it, I remember hearing that 3 out of the 5 people killed in the Bin Ladin compound raid were non-combatants. 4 if you count Bin Ladin himself who was unarmed...using his wife as a shield...with his AK and Makarov pistol only 10 feet away from him...untouched.
I guess I'd worry more about being shot by my own men than by the enemy.

But if Bin Ladin was killed in a firefight rather than a gestapo raid, nobody would be debating the issue of whether we could've taken him alive. This individual seemed to have neglected the countless humanitarian aid the Armed Forces provides, more then any nation in the history of. As well as the opportunity for many young adults to learn self-discipline, a trait that is severally lacking today. Sure, we put our lives on the line for 'the man', if that's how you choose to view it. But there is nothing that gives me more pride then wearing the uniform and the feeling of self accomplishment.
