It's not precisely true, as stated here, that the U.S. government is now the largest buyer of American bonds - it's the Fed (though I wouldn't argue with a claim that the two institutions are essentially only one organization with two faces). Either way, it's still not a good sign that we're the biggest buyer of our own debt. the possible outcomes of reliance on 100-year bonds at 1% sounds worrisome.
