I first heard this album in 1970-71. A friend had bought it from a record club and did not like it. I already had After the Goldrush and was already moved by Neil Young's music. Over the years, I have collected every Neil Young record or CD that I can get my hands on. This album however, has always been a personal favorite. Thanks for posting.
My dad used to always play records on rainy days while I was growing up, this was one of his favorites, every time it rains this song's melody pops into my head and makes me think of him <3
AWESOME !!!!!! Only discovered this one just over 20 yrs. ago...when I first bought the CD of this incredible album!!!! The lyrics are most interesting.
the music of him is the home of my soul, i spent my best times and found comfort in my worst listening to him, he makes the world a better place in more than one sense. i can't be thankfull enough to my brother who introduced Neil to me when i was 12. i saw the sky about to rain when i had my first time and is there somebody out there who can explain why i still discover new things even if i'm hearing a song for more than 2000 times? ..long may he run... love him!!!
What an incredible song, a long lost favorite. I like the production and complex song structure especially. Beatlesque in that way. Wish Neil had done more in this style production and composing-wise. I see a movie about people getting older in this song with this as the theme song. Very evocative. It's hard to call Neil Young underrated, yet I think he is and this song shows a side that he, unfortunately, more-or-less abandoned, in favor of a less-is-more approach. Great job on the video.
I still have my tattered copy of this LP. Note my name, a play on Emperor of Wyoming. I wish someone would upload it to Youtube. This song is timeless and fits more today than it did in 67.
@EmpressOfWyoming58 Hey Empress, love the name! My copy of the LP is in great condition, I'll make a recording of Emperor and Here We Are and upload it to Youtube soon!
@Chapelle69 That would be wonderful. I have the CD. I'd love to have the song readily available on Youtube though. I like to share it with people when they ask, "How'd you get that screen name?" It's a beautiful song with great use of the pedal steel guitar in the arrangement. Please keep me informed. It's not hard to remember me. EmpressOfWyoming58 ; )
Like everyone, I was aware of the tall, dark, and moody image playing guitar with Springfield ... how at the Bowl you would see his masterful "Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing" being sung by Richie Furay. There was a deep talent there, we knew that from "On the Way Home," Broken Arrow," and, of course, the saddest song every written, "Expecting to Fly." But who was ready for "Neil Young?" I know Neil dismisses it as overproduced, prefers "Everybody," but the songs on NY are absolute treasures.
very nice song and video. I have been working on a Neil Young video (well sort of Neil Young...him with some friends hint hint)....having trouble getting the right images...hopefully I will get it all assembled sooner or later.
Your song choice, your ani, ations and editing skills are cunning. How did I not see all of these until today? I have to get back and check it all out. And to think that above all, you are a dear friend as well....you are good peoples.
Thanks Sherry. I don't remember this particular song but I like it. Nice slides too. I'm gonna dig through my albums, have several Neil Young in my collection. Need to blow the dust off the old turntable and enjoy some old memories.
We can take your albums and make videos of them going round and round and put them on your channel...I love old albums...will have to check them out one day..thank you for coming by..this whole album was a beautiful experience back in the day..and, still sounds mighty fine..thanks.
This gal is very happy that my friend appreciates Neil's first album with her...that means aLoT to me and you very kind words..Have a wonderful weekend friend..Thank you for coming by..;-)
Beautiful Sherry! Great song and wonderful pictures! I love his first solo album! It had shades of some of the songs that he wrote and sang on the later Buffalo Springfield albums. Good Stuff! Thanks!
I always think of this song after the holidays......

I made a nice video for Emperor of Wyoming, the first song on Neil Young. Youtube would not allow me to post it. How did you get this by them?
