The song was written for Guy the Gorilla who lived his entire life in captivity in a zoo, but it was dedicated to the employee who died in a car accident. Still a beut of a song.
I would like to make y'all aware of a quirky new music book which contains literally thousands of YouTube comments. The publication is entitled 'You Are A Tube!' compiled by Steven Fried PLC.
I knew a chap, Matthew and he played this on his accoustic guitar and won a prize in a music contest. I plyed this on my trumpet a year later in another music contest. I was told not to compete again.
A classic tune, brings tears to the eyes for me, sitting in a pizza restaraunt down the road from my mums hospice where we were given the news shes was not gonna make it, im not looking for a sob story, just wanted to share that with all you strangers :) while I listen to this tune :) god bless Mum :) x Very powerful tune, Thank God For Elton John, I dont know what I wouldve done with him through those years :) xxx
Amo esta melodia desde quando Elton a tocou no dia da morte de Guy. Feche seus olhos e deixe sua imaginação voar para o lugar mais lindo que é o seu INTERIOR;
Wonderful song, this was "our song" with my late husband - I had it played at our wedding and his funeral, and I listen to this constantly, as it brings him back to me. Thank you Elton for such a wonderful, haunting song. Jean McCarthy
this is one of those timeless melodies that will remain in our hearts forever...and I think for inspiring such a beautiful music guy must have been a great guy, no doubt at all
I was channel surfing this morning, when I came across "Oh Heavenly Dog". Unfortunately, the sound was not playing on that channel, so I went to my DVD rack and put it in my player for the first time in perhaps 4 years or more. To my surprise, beside the wonder "Arrow through me" this song played too. I went to the end credits, and on to youtube to see if it were there. Such a song. Elton John has written some wonderful music over the years. This is just one piece. Thank you Elton John.
@nula07 Actually it's "life isn't everything". As far as I know he wrote the song from a daydream of his where he imagined dying and soaring up from Earth to the sky leaving it all behind. As a striking coincidence a friend from Elton John's record company got killed in a car accident shortly after Elton John had written the song and he decided to dedicate the song to him. Anyway, that's the story I have heard. And if that's true then what a beautiful but sad story.
You know? I never thought much of Elton John and found his persona quite repulsive. However, this track and his other well known instrumental piece out of the blue.... simply marvelous bits of piano bliss!
A lovely piece of music. Elton John plays it beautifully and it's sooo relaxing to just close your your eyes and let your mind drift while his plays quietly in the background.
I first heard this as a teenager and forgot about it for a few years until I caught it on the radio one day and then went out and bought the vinyl (yes I'm that old) and I still play this when I just need to let stress drift away. Awesome image to go with it too. Nice post Chester Thanks

May I recommend the 376-page book 'An Essential Guide To Music In The 1970s' by Johnny Zero. The author is a big fan of this fine instrumental.

I always used to think he said 'Life is a delicate thing'.
Same connotation anyway!

@CrueLoaf I think it's "Life isn't terribly fair." How fitting.

When i try to understand why i love this song so much, i can't really figure it out.
It's sounds easy compared to some Chopin tracks, still, the simplicity and the depth of this song strike me every time.
I listen to this since i'm 6, i will always love this song :)
