It's not a beta quest thing specifically; due to the gb's limited data, they had to use hex values for everything. by activating the fishing game in the wrong map square using the screen warp glitch, you knocked one of the values to a different slot. That meant that seemingly random text, graphics tiles, and interactive programming got switched around. You can see for example, that the mabe village graphics got placed over dungeons and caves. got some pretty cool results though... good vid.

I found this glitch in the first dungeon, if you fall down a pit that brings you to a sidescrolling screen but jump immediately after starting on that screen it does something much simmilar

Do you know about the glitch where you can go in house from the back at the beginning of the vid? You go to a different glitch world depending on how many enemies you defeated. 0-32 after 32 it starts over.

OK. This is a bit similar to the LttP glitch. In fact, upon performing that glitch in the GBA version, someone discovered that the Chris Houlihan room exists in it.

I find it odd that once you use the select glitch the objects obtain various properties. The walls can be either grass or water.

This doesn't count as a "beta quest", its a very old glitch and one of many in Link's Awakening.

You are right, the "Beta Quest" in the title is just because this glitch is in some ways similar to the Ocarina Of Time "Beta Quest", but this is not really that much "beta-related", just lot of fun. Still, in this world it should be possible to find unused text / sprites that are still in the game code

The text and areas weren't generated randomly, there were only around seven maps in the game.

Every area in the game is laid out on one of these map. So when you warp past the map you go onto one of these other maps.

The Square Empty rooms are just empty spaces in the map, the game doesn't know where to dump Link so he is just dropped in a garbage room.

The text isn't random, you are just being warped into a room, the game randomly picks a sprite to replace the character.

@ZergRushJohnny I did, and now my zelda game is fucked up (the game comes among in a 36 in 1 cart)

All my save files are there, except they are corrupted, none of them can be erased and when you load any of the three you start the game in the tower of the mountain range and the ghost from the graveyard is following you all the time, if you use the shovel the ghost will tell you: DIG, DIG TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH!!! and link is invisible and stuff. (dungeon 7, i believe)
