361 hp from a 6.0 that is just weak as hell but it also means you can make a few cheap changes to ECU and other parts and you´ll be up to 500 hp easily

If I can make a suggestion, please put that the 138 mph 'top speed' is the governed top speed! Its German rivals have to be limited to 155 with less hp, so the G8 GT can certainly do that. Other than that, I liked it.

So i have a problem.. Im getting ready to turn 16 and im looking for a cool, sporty car that will hopefully catch some eyes. Now im not looking to race, but i don't want to make the mistake of getting a car thats only option is to be a torquer. So my question is would it be acceptable to get jst the Pontiac g8 with the v6 (because i can't afford the g8 gt at the moment, in price and insurance), or would getting the g8 v6 be like getting a v6 mustang or Camaro where it would just be an insult?
@tbryzeal The modern Camaro and 2011 Mustang V6s are not as insulting as they used to be. Both have ~300Hp each, and thats nothing to sneeze at. The V6 on the G8 only pushes around 256hp, decent, but with a car the size of the G8 is, you wont feel like you were driving a very sport car. More like a nice looking car with moderate speed. But nothing thrilling.

The only reason these Mexican plants are so efficient is because the Americans/Germans etc have ensured that proper management and structure was administered otherwise the quality control would not pass their standards. Mexico is still a third world country for the most part and manufacturers use them for the cheap labour. it designed in Australia by australian and german Engineers, all the electric manufactured by Bosch and sterio system By Blaupunct, anyway, it goes like a rocket and stick on the road like glue.
Holden is a GM subsidiary and this car is also sold in the middle east under Chevorlet and in England as Vauxhaul so it isn't anything bad. In fact it is increased sales for Holden. It's just that Holden isn't in those markets so GM has to name it something different.
The new G6 Falcons are OK. However, they don't look as good, although the Interior Electronic Display is slightly more advanced the Interior still looks very Australian (big and Bulky) the VE/G8 is still bulky but manages to have a slight germen influence. Oz ford V8's fail because they try and market their turbo engines. Great engine design but from people that i know that own them, say the XR6/Typhoons are unreliable. The good thing about the G6 Falcon is the safety rating ;-) VE is only 4/5.
i just got an 09 G8 GT tonight with 4k miles on it for 25grand- it drives smooth as hell and you dont hear the engine inside. very room interior and every luxury is power operated with an 11 speaker amped sound system and 6 disc changer. 360 some horses throws you back in your seat, i got up to 140 on the highway and backed off- its scary because it feels like youre going 50. remote starter on switchblade key is pretty spiffy too.
I'm on my second STI. I love these cars but you could not do burnouts like the G8. The STI grips like its on rails, hooks up hard and pins you to the seat all the time, you just cant get that same feeling in a rwd. You can get the STI to do a 4 wheel drift in hard turns but it's really twitchy compared to rwd where you just counter steer to keep the ass end in control. Not saying one is better, it's just preference. If you get snowy winters, you would love the Subaru. IMO, both great cars
Another Holden Piece of Rubbish: I was the unfortunate owner of a VXR8 and from the day of purchase from Holden as a custom order, 80k AUD purchase price, 4 years of amazing design defects, 4 motors, and traveled 40K in 4 years. nearly 2 years of hire cars from holden and AVIS. Problems from Paint, trim, engine, brakes, camber rear, shifter hitting dashboard, gearbox, diff seals, squeeky dash, front and rear bars not aligned bla. Good Looking car, mechanically SHi&. How is it so hard to believe? I'm fairly well off but i'm not stuck up about it at all, thought this might make me sound a bit high ego'd. I had a fair bit of saved and earned money that is banked with a decent savings account that puts out respectable interest income. Then got inheritance under terrible terms, more than enough to cover the car entirely. My parents still covered some of it for me though. Any-who i'm just about outa space here.

from what i have seen are large cars not selling in the usa because in australia last time i checked the commodore (g8) was the most popular make of car but i think it might of gone to second to the camary and holden was the second most popular brand after toyota but the large car range is still realy going well over here
i own a 09 g8 gt and im already doing mods so far it has a roto fab intake,and a hp tuner its kick ass its almost to 500hp. Vin says 125th one made =] they did not go wrong with this car
The tune allows me to play with every electronic controlled thing on the car so i played around with it. adjusting rev limits and all that good stuff its a pretty cool tune. im gonna put twin turbos into it but gotta save up they cost 6k so waiting for tax money to come back lol

I think its an awsome car, but i think instead of putting a 6.0 v8 in they should have gone with the 7.0 LS7 that comes in the corvette Z06 it has 505 hp and 470 ft. lbs. of torque and gets the same gas mileage as the G8 and the G8 GXP, I know if I buy a G8 GXP I would take the 6.2 out and put the 7.0 LS7 in, and theres more performance parts for the 7.0 LS7...

So i have a problem.. Im getting ready to turn 16 and im looking for a cool, sporty car that will hopefully catch some eyes. Now im not looking to race, but i don't want to make the mistake of getting a car thats only option is to be a torquer. So my question is would it be acceptable to get jst the Pontiac g8 with the v6 (because i can't afford the g8 gt at the moment, in price and insurance), or would getting the g8 v6 be like getting a v6 mustang or Camaro where it would just be an insult?

@tbryzeal The modern Camaro and 2011 Mustang V6s are not as insulting as they used to be. Both have ~300Hp each, and thats nothing to sneeze at. The V6 on the G8 only pushes around 256hp, decent, but with a car the size of the G8 is, you wont feel like you were driving a very sport car. More like a nice looking car with moderate speed. But nothing thrilling.

All VW Jettas are made in Mexico, as are over 1.5 million other cars...includying all Ford Fusions in Hermosillo , Mexico, with the most high quality awards than any other North American Plant. The only reason these Mexican plants are so efficient is because the Americans/Germans etc have ensured that proper management and structure was administered otherwise the quality control would not pass their standards. Mexico is still a third world country for the most part and manufacturers use them for the cheap labour. And I'm not racist btw, I love travelling there and I like the culture/people, I've even picked up the language

it designed in Australia by australian and german Engineers, all the electric manufactured by Bosch and sterio system By Blaupunct, anyway, it goes like a rocket and stick on the road like glue.

Holden is a GM subsidiary and this car is also sold in the middle east under Chevorlet and in England as Vauxhaul so it isn't anything bad. In fact it is increased sales for Holden. It's just that Holden isn't in those markets so GM has to name it something different.

The new G6 Falcons are OK. However, they don't look as good, although the Interior Electronic Display is slightly more advanced the Interior still looks very Australian (big and Bulky) the VE/G8 is still bulky but manages to have a slight germen influence. Oz ford V8's fail because they try and market their turbo engines. Great engine design but from people that i know that own them, say the XR6/Typhoons are unreliable. The good thing about the G6 Falcon is the safety rating ;-) VE is only 4/5.

i just got an 09 G8 GT tonight with 4k miles on it for 25grand- it drives smooth as hell and you dont hear the engine inside. very room interior and every luxury is power operated with an 11 speaker amped sound system and 6 disc changer. 360 some horses throws you back in your seat, i got up to 140 on the highway and backed off- its scary because it feels like youre going 50. remote starter on switchblade key is pretty spiffy too.

I'm on my second STI. I love these cars but you could not do burnouts like the G8. The STI grips like its on rails, hooks up hard and pins you to the seat all the time, you just cant get that same feeling in a rwd. You can get the STI to do a 4 wheel drift in hard turns but it's really twitchy compared to rwd where you just counter steer to keep the ass end in control. Not saying one is better, it's just preference. If you get snowy winters, you would love the Subaru. IMO, both great cars

Another Holden Piece of Rubbish: I was the unfortunate owner of a VXR8 and from the day of purchase from Holden as a custom order, 80k AUD purchase price, 4 years of amazing design defects, 4 motors, and traveled 40K in 4 years. nearly 2 years of hire cars from holden and AVIS. Problems from Paint, trim, engine, brakes, camber rear, shifter hitting dashboard, gearbox, diff seals, squeeky dash, front and rear bars not aligned bla. Good Looking car, mechanically SHi&. The car that you had was a HSV VX Clubsport R8, which is 4 years and 4 models older than the car in this video. It is not even built on the same platform as the car in the video.

I don't really care, though-I love this thing enough to drive 1500 miles to grab one. Just getting to drive it all the way back would be worth it.

GM finally puts a great affordable performance sedan on the market and what do they do? Phase it out ! I have driven one and I believe this is the best vehicle GM has made in a long time. The icing on the cake is its made in Australia, Way to go Motown, no wonder the US auto industry is on the verge of collapsing!

Australia also made the GTO but they didn't make them for the American market originaly, America liked them and rebadged them there real name is G8-Commodore and Monaro for the GTO they have been building these types of car since the 60s look up Ford GTho falcon or the bathurst torana or at the moment look at there F6

Now GM said they wont even bring it back as a caprice, however this means the G8 will become a colectable and the price will actually go up, thats atleast what fast lane daily said, so if you have one good investment and if you dont, and can afford it get it while the price is low.

A clean low mile used one may still be a smart buy. Relatively small number sold may make for a possible semi-classic type collectable.

they overflowed G8's onto dealer lots in the end of last year, hopefully they'll still make some through 2010 because now its really selling well
as for a collectible the first 888 will be collectibles, as well the GXP and the GT, as for the V6 model, probably not, but thats just specualtion

Yes, I'm sure the V6 cars won't be of any interest - only the higher end performance V8s. I'd assumed the cars would be discontinued but I guess that being made in Australia they could still be sent over. Maybe they can be sold as Chevs instead if there's no more Pontiac. The US dollar is still up on the Aus. dollar and the car seems to be regarded as keenly priced, so maybe the cars will be viable for a while yet.

Typical STUPID AMERICAN COMPANY. Go to the trouble of building one of the best cars for the money.. then don't tell anybod about it... then cancel the car cause it did not sell.. Mabye we will get lucky and the car will rise again as a Chevy. I swear this car drives like a BMW 540... Really nice.

How is it so hard to believe? I'm fairly well off but i'm not stuck up about it at all, thought this might make me sound a bit high ego'd. I had a fair bit of saved and earned money that is banked with a decent savings account that puts out respectable interest income. Then got inheritance under terrible terms, more than enough to cover the car entirely. My parents still covered some of it for me though. Any-who i'm just about outa space here.

from what i have seen are large cars not selling in the usa because in australia last time i checked the commodore (g8) was the most popular make of car but i think it might of gone to second to the camary and holden was the second most popular brand after toyota but the large car range is still realy going well over here

The tune allows me to play with every electronic controlled thing on the car so i played around with it. adjusting rev limits and all that good stuff its a pretty cool tune. im gonna put twin turbos into it but gotta save up they cost 6k so waiting for tax money to come back lol

The Pontiac G8 is a re-branded Australian built Holden Commodore which was designed entirely in Australia and the Pontiac G8 is fully assembled at the Elizabeth plant in Australia. This car is actually sold under 4 different brand names
1. Holden Commodore in Australia and New Zealand.
2. Vauxhall VXR8 in the UK.
3. Pontiac G8 in the US.
4.Chevrolet Lumina SS in South Africa and some parts of the Middle East.
All are fully assembled in Australia.

im 23 but yeah I agree with getting the corvette, but i really like the G8's, I can afford the G8 GXP, but not the 7.0 LS7 thats another $17,000, and i dont know how hard the swap would be to put it in, i just can't believe that the LS7 puts out 505 hp and tops out at 198mph, ,and get the same gas mileage as the G8's, isn't that redicilious though? you think they would have been smarter than that, don't you agree???

I think its an awsome car, but i think instead of putting a 6.0 v8 in they should have gone with the 7.0 LS7 that comes in the corvette Z06 it has 505 hp and 470 ft. lbs. of torque and gets the same gas mileage as the G8 and the G8 GXP, I know if I buy a G8 GXP I would take the 6.2 out and put the 7.0 LS7 in, and theres more performance parts for the 7.0 LS7...
