  • Sadly, this film did not make the money it should have when released from what I understand. I think the beginning of the trailer did not help with Maharis introducing the trailer. He is much better in the film than the trailer. A film way ahead of its time, and worth seeing if you haven't.

  • @elnick1000 Have you seen other trailers from around the same time, including for the Bond films? They aren't much "better". It makes one think that trailers didn't make as much difference as the do today, and accordingly weren't given as much concern, at least not aesthetically. I think the major factor then as now is word of mouth. It probably wasn't a success because it's not as action and sex oriented.

  • @aplantage Thankyou for your reply, but I do think their were some great trailers. The one for Psycho some 5 yrs later was a great trailer. I also would consider the Citizen Kane trailer of 1941 also to be fantastic. I just think that someone, or some people goofed big time in not helping this film to be a success. Also, I consder this film to be action oriented. The film was directed by John Sturgis, and written by Alister McClean. Two men assicated with action at the time.

  • @elnick1000 Yes, but those trailers were hardly the average. And CITIZEN KANE wasn't a commercial success at the time, despite the hype. Relatively speaking it is less action oriented, and precisely the associations with those names raised high expectations in that regard.

  • Anything with Richard Basehart is worth watching

  • Very close to being a `classic`. This film is ripe for remake.

  • Me i thinks is a little bit of poo poo

    ;~)

  • At 1:20, man, how realistic was it when those guys were shot! W-O-W!!

  • Maharis looks a lot like Darryl Hickman in this clip.

  • I really liked George Maharis and miss seeing him on tv and in the films. I wish him all the best....a big fan in Washington DC

  • A good opportunity to see a piece of the best spy movie ever! Very much worth its attention. They don´t make this kind anymore...

  • Such a kick ass piece of music running through this from the begining!

  • A great score by Jerry Goldsmith!

  • Dash Riprock was played by Larry Pennell, not Maharis, who left "Route 66" so he could do this film.

  • Maharis left Route 66 because he was sick with hepatitis and the producers continued to expect full-time work, often physically demanding, from him. He finally left the show when he relapsed. The producers accused him of quitting to make movies and even sued him for breach of contract, but George was indeed very sick. This movie was several years after he left r66.

  • "The Satan Bug" was released in late 1964,

a year and a half after Maharis left

    "Route 66". A underrated film.

  • Stephen King's "The Stand" was nothing more than a ripoff of "The Satan Bug".

  • Wow- and I though Bob Saggett just did those funny home video shows...

  • security doesn't look all THAT good.. nothing any team from "Survivor" couldn't get around.

  • great movie with an actor that should have done more work George Maharis

  • This was a good movie in its day.

  • I remember seeing this movie as a teenager, great film. VERY suspenseful.
