lol. My mom used to make this when I was younger & I thought it was so weird because there were so many flies around. But it tastes sooo good when it's ready to eat.
After it's dried, is that the point at which you can store it for a while if you wish? The frying at the end, that's just one way to serve it, right? You could actually just dry it in the sun, then bag it and put it away, even at room temperature, for some time? Is that right?
Yeh im also thai my mum makes this like every week with yummy Rice and u put the jerky on the rich eat it together <3 and its so delicous its like a fire cracker in your mouth Yum! <3333
You don't need to fry it, you can sautee it with minimal oil. I learned from watching my dad..... He used a baking pan, marinated the beef that was cut into about 1/2 to an inch size, placed it out in the sun for a few hours, turned it once, then few hours and it was done.
You can make jerky in a few hours. Just put the marinated beef or whatever meat you prefer in the oven set at low heat. Dries faster. But it lacks the flavor and yummy aroma of sun-dried meat.
you get two plastic basket and stick the meat in there. tie the two baskets together and hang them. or if not that they have this sort of hanging basket that is made spesifically to prevent bugs, its ventilated so the meat would dry a little better. stuff is hella bomb with vinigar sauce with chili =]
"How do you prevent flies and other insects from getting into your meat while its sun drying outside?"
Easy just get a fly net at a dollar store or something.. Something big enough to cover it that is transparent. As long the sun the can shine through. Also note that lots of flies and beas will be around your house.
this looks so great!!! What can I do instead of deepfrying? you have alot of deep fried stuff, and I don't mind the occasional deep fried dish but I dont like the health factor.
put a wired like strainer over it thats what my parents do i know its hard to describe the strainer so youd have to see it visually to understand what i mean by that
would it still taste good if made in a Dehydrator

Sad music to remember the cows by?
I love this recipe, but the insects would be all over my meat before even half way done sun drying. any sun lamp alternatives?
cequiaa 2 years ago 2
The spices drive the bugs away.

put them in a oven
respectbluder 2 years ago
I think a good alternate to the outside sun is to use your oven,
Set it at a really low temprature and cook for about 4 hour's.
Also if you really want to cook outside and keep the bug's away you can make a smokey fire and hang the meat well above it.
This will keep the bug's away and give your meat a nice smokey flavour.

dont bug and flyes get on there??? i remeber my dad always make that every summer but his had the net cover it so bug wont get on it....
Apsaraqu33n 2 years ago
Re: Apsaraqu
Yes you would always have to cover it with either a screen or net. Where there is warmth, heat, there is always flies.
