Okay, I've been waiting 20 years to say this... the new producers ruined it. This episode is a 40 minute death scene of the show itself. Two likable, interesting main characters... gone. Creepy, entertaining antagonists... gone. Unique lore... scrapped. Future story lines foreshadowed... forgotten. Scary alien imagery... gone. All of this replaced by vague nonsense... unexplained premises... characters doing things that don't make sense. Tried to give S2 a chance, but it's not even the same show
watching this as a young child had a profound impact on me. I couldn't understand why the world was normal in one season and then declining in the second season. I've loved fiction with societies in decline ever since. Too bad the show itself kinda fell flat.
These arnt available on dvd in the uk. (but i have a multi region dvd player so i bought it anyway) But these were released on video ages ago and the certificates given were 18s and 15s.
I hate season 2. It ruined almost everything that was good in season 1. Both because Norton and Ironhorse were killed and because season 2 aliens never seemed to have an original form. They were just humans except they were green inside. That's just silly. And the existence of a god called "The Eternal" was also silly.
Add to that they are totally inconsistent with not just season 1 but the original movie plus the weird decay of human society.
@smik4978 Me too. I did watch season 2 when it aired, because it was still the same show, but I hated what they did with it. Nevertheless, it doesn't matter anymore, because I can enjoy season 1 now I have the US edition, and it's more than worth it. Great show!!
@smik4978 Me too. I did watch season 2 when it aired, so I gave it a chance because it was still the same show, (or not, as the case may be), but I hated what they did with it. Nevertheless, it doesn't matter anymore, because I can enjoy season 1 now I have the US edition, and it's more than worth it. Great show!!
I think I blame being exposed to this show as a very young child for a fostering a life long love of fiction that features a civilization in decline.
The Earth that declines in the alternate parallel universe is different from the Earth we live on in our universe. We're currently saving our environment by reducing, reusing and recycling. This planet has to keep on existing in our universe for the next million years.
Hey there Ajarzian! I've been going through WotW S2 episode by episode. I was bummed when they didn't release the 2nd season on DVD after the first, so your episodes have been a joy to watch.
I notice that episode 12, The Pied Piper, cuts off right at the end. Is this a problem with your original or with the encoding? If it's the encoding, any chance I could persuade you to reupload? If it's the original, do you know how it ends?
This was one of the late 80's most unsung series. For two seasons this race of aliens attacked Earth and became so cyber-punk in the second season. Much more violent than anything that had gone before, Fox had several edgy series, like Friday the 13th, Freddies Nightmares, etc. This one was so much more compelling.
I agree. That's why we need to campaign for the 2nd season to be released on dvd. BTW, the dude who played Ironhorse was in Predator. Just thought you'd like some 80's trivia.
And they got rid of the "wheelchair-bound genius." After Brief History of Time was published in 1988 it seemed like every friggin' TV show had to have a genius in a wheelchair.
Man, I'm so glad somebody posted this. One of my asshole roommates stole my DVDR copies of the ENTIRE series I bought from Ebay years ago. Dammit, that made me mad. Really, thanks for posting this, cuz most likely it will never get a proper release at the rate things are going.
I also remember hearing a story about how Catherine Disher become incredibly angry with the viewers after she read the amount of hate mail sent in to the production company.
season two had a darker, sleazier tone to it. i hated the way the original storylines from season one were dropped and replaced by storielines that managed to be sleazy, trashy and dull all at the same time. the original aliens were far more interesting. the new aliens were boring and about as smart as tree stumps. the acting was as good as the first season, and adrien paul's character was a interesting addition, but the second season sucked monkey nuts.
It actually looks like the Second Season had a bit more of a budget as compared to the first season. Wacthing Season 1 on DVD I began wondering if WOTW was only getting the loose change from Star Trek:TNG.
Hey, you Rock! for posting this. When I was in college I would watch this show late Sunday nights in my dorm while doing school work. Brings back a lot of memories. I had every ep on VHS but lost them in transition. For whatever reason, the second seasono was my favorite.
I'm happy as hell they killed off Ironhorse and Drake. I was sad when I was twelve years old, but when I bought the Season One DVD pack a year ago I saw how horrible they were as actors and then it made plenty of sense to bump em' off. And they went out with a bang. I love "dark" shows. That's why 24 is great; you never know who's going to get killed off.
Thanks for posting. Wondering if you please also label this with "Jared Martin" "TV series" and 1988" tags please? These are super hard to find here. When you do a search for "War of the Worlds" the Tom Cruise movie pops up and this stuff must be at the bottom of the pages.
i know I was alwazs in lovewith the title sequence, even if the show never got on its feet. The first season was best when it worked on that paranoid xfiles tzpe level and that aliens were great a a lot of horror with them, but season 2 had a great mood to it.
This should have been a spinoff series instead. I love season 2, but I really dont like the way they just killed of the Mor-Tax aliens and all their related storylines.
This is a dissaster. All that work in season one to end up like this! How could they make Ironhorse kill Norton and then himself? What a waste. And at least the first season had a sense of humor. This misery is enough to make a person wanna clone themself.
they showed this sometime in 1996 in the UK (mixed up with the 1st season!)
I instantly knew that this was some huge mistake on the producers side when I saw Harrison in a bar drinking beer and eventually wielding a gun

Second season aliens: Space Nazis
Second season kicked ass.
