  • Terrible translation. "boy" is changed to "matron" and it omits the name of the male beloved. For those who don't know, this ode is about Horace's love for a young man.

  • @tboltssf It's a piece about unrequited love and Duncombe is no less entitled to pining after some matron than Horace was after Ligurinus, and putting it into verse. But if one should care to make a fuss over such dross, I think D.'s rendering lends more dignity to same-sex love than this petty fit over political correctness of our day.

    I should also be very grateful if in the future you will refrain from posting comments which are unrelated to the purpose of my channel and these recordings.
