  • I vaguely remembered the cartoon myself. Man, I knew that this cartoon existed. Man, what memories.

  • Watched this every Saturday morning on ch.7 WABC NYC when i was a kid in the 70's

  • This show brings back memories!

  • E+4 was on when I was about 7. Back then I thought it was cool. Now I see it as possibly encouraging kids to get in the way of EMS workers.

  • OMG! Just happened on this vid and after 30+ years and not even 4 bars into the theme song I know EXACTLY what this is!!!

    EMERGENCY!!!!

I remember the cartoon shots too!

    Just.....wow!

  • where can I find this cartoon on DVD if it has Johnny and Roy as two of the voice actors of two of the characters I'll Definatley watch it

  • My god, where did you find this?

  • i would be happy if this show came to dvd. I have S1-S6 and pre-order the greatest rescues.

  • Had no idea they made a cartoon of the show thats cool

  • Wow! Totally remember the tornado episode. The circus train wreck was a good one as well. Ah to be 6 years old again...

  • classic 1973-74 saturday morning show if anyone knows how to find and upload episodes please do. I seem to recall an episode with a car carrier sliding down a canyon and i think there was one with an earthquake too. But I was only 8 then so I could be way off lol

  • wish i kn ew where i could find it. I remember it too. It came on just before Star Trek did on Saturday mornings,

  • I remember watching this as a kid too. Some episodes were good, but lameness seemed to prevail, especially for die-hard fans of the live series. Thanks for the memory!

  • @jjj11330 But on the other hand, the cartoon got kids interested in the live-action Emergency.

  • It's too bad they don't make cartoons from real TV programs anymore. Can you imagine 'toon versions of "Desperate Housewives" and "Jersey Shore"?

  • Great music!

  • I remember when I moved to Virginia as a little boy, this is what my mum would have me watch. Along with S.W.A.T. EMERGENCY! Adam-12 A-Team etc. I miss good T.V. land.

  • WOW!!!!! I remember watching this as a kid in Va...Thanks for posting..

  • WOW!!! I forgot i watched this as a kid in Va....Loved this show. Thanks for posting

  • Finally, I've trying to figure out the name of that cartoon for decades! I must have been three years old when I watched it during its original broadcast. I never found any information about it on the net. I could only remember there being emergency vehicles in the opening credits.

  • Would love to see a full episode of this again. Havent seen it since the late 70s. Was lucky that a Kingston, Ontario station picked it up in reruns for a while. Sadly, it was years before I had a VCR.

  • man that is so cheesey

  • Wow, you just blew my mind. Emergency was my fav show in the 70's but I never knew a cartoon existed!

  • They just do not make great theme songs for TV shows like this any more.

    And this was a cartoon.

  • it is funny because there is no pole on the original series, lol.

I like to see this released on dvd as well. It brings back memories of saturday morning cartoons!!!

  • I liked this show as well as the real Emergency TV show. Would like to see both these shows released on DVD too!

  • Maybe possible to stomach this show if you think of its reality St. Elsewhere finale style--i.e. it's just some kid's fantasy, not taking place in any actual plane of existence.

Except even then the dumb grins on Gage and De Soto are disturbing.

  • That is vintage!!! Loved that cartoon!

  • A cartoon version of Randolph Mantooth & the actor who played DeSoto. Wow.

  • This needs to come out on DVD.

  • i learned a lot from both live action and from the cartoon.

  • god this is okay, but nothing compared to the real show!!

  • yep odd why fimnation had them slide down a pole when they never did in the real show....and those kids look to young be doin fire fightin work to....no helmet gear bad idea.....never saw it till now open theme.....was not shown in atlanta area due to local station felt better show somethin else in place then they said Rateings!

  • LOL Animated Randy Mantooth!

  • I remember this show but never watched it much. I always found it interesting they had Gage and Desoto slide down a pole when there was no pole in the original series. Station 51 was a single story building.

  • Come to think of it, you're right. Station 51 was a single story building. The dorm was off to the left of the squad and engine (I think). It's also interesting to note that no one from either Engine 51 or from Rampart General were in the show.

  • @volfire2 There were a couple of episodes featuring Engine 51 and a Ladder 51. One was where they rescued an elderly man (Mr. Hanson) from a burning home. Another was where a Chet Kelly look-a-like was injured on a response to a false alarm that a kid had reported, just to see the fire trucks come.

  • I didn't know theyt hada cartoon :)

  • Never knew there was a cartoon version. As a 7 year-old girl in 1972, I had such a crush on the guy with the long-ish thick black hair (presumably DeSoto?). Who didn't, right?

  • The guy with black hair is John Gage.

  • bdlula, you're right, everyone loves that guy! He's Johnny Gage.

  • I loved the live action show, but thought the cartoon was lame.

  • Great animated show, i`t`s my favourite, in spanish translation named "Emergencia Juvenil"

  • Oh sweet jesus!,man another great lost tv show!.Where did you get this?.

  • I have to say, some of these comments are just amazing! I agree with towringer's comments. This was a cartoon based off of a T.V. show. Not everything you see on T.V. is correct. We should all be greatful that the producers of this cartoon tried really hard to make it interesting to the children of the time. Adding kids driving an ambulance was part of it as well the animals. Some Firehouses have dogs as well other mascots. There should be a comeback to cartoon's like these.

  • I don't think this cartoon failed, remembering back, it went at least 2 years. Anyway, I can't believe I'm seeing it again, brings back memories. Thanks for posting.

  • Cartoons didn't last long back then to my memory...The Jackson 5 show didn't last two full seasons and Star Trek wasn't on as long as we thought although they reran shows from time to time.

I did notice that nobody ever had a NORMAL van, even next to the facsimile of a 1972 Dodge truck...that was one boss truck!

  • @steadfastcoward: Standard practice was to produce a 24-26 episodes, then air the majority for the first season while sitting on the remainder until the following year (Emergency +1 aired tis first 17 episodes during the 1973-74 season; the remaining six aired the following season).

  • It was bad not only it made fun of the show n this cartoon failed thank goodness...what we need is Emergency to come back as new series with new cast n same u saw in the 1970 series

  • Too funny; where'd you get this? I remember watching it when I was a kid, but no one else that I knew remembered it and thought I was nuts.

As far as the comments about underage kids being involved in EMS, come on; I have been an FF/Paramedic for 23 years, and have never been offended by something like this; it was a cartoon for kids after all.

  • you and me both, i was the only one up early enough to watch it. it was great, people can say what they want, but when i was a kid it was good. lots of nitpicking on details, but notice when they leave the firehouse, the refinery is across the street.

  • I remember this as a kid and watching the series. It came on Saturday mornings on NBC IN 73' or 74' in response to the TV series that was popular that also came on Tues or Wed at 8pm on NBC.

  • I don't think that the fact four underage kids and several animals should drive an ambulance. Couldn't they atleast have stoker stop drivig the engine to drive the ambulance? or have one of the Mayfair guys do it I don't care!

  • I agree, it unrealistic. I'm an EMT and I've never been on a call where we needed help from a bird, a monkey, or a dog. We do have the fire explorers around here, but the kids don't drive the vechicles!

  • I used to love that show back in the day! Why did all of those t.v. show spin-off cartoons always have to have a group of dumb kids and some dopey animal added to the show, that weren't in the original series?

  • Well, the kids were added because the audience was kids. The producers figured that kids, always used to their parents telling them what they couldn't do, wanted to see themselves doing important grownup stuff that helped people. I know I did back then. The animals--I don't know.

  • I never knew there was a cartoon!

  • I'm hoping this would also come out on DVD.

  • I was nine when this came out. I was a big fan. The animation wasn't particularly good, but the storylines were. They had a particularly good two-part episode where one of them got badly injured durring a white water rafting trip in a canyon area. Every episode taught you a little about safety/emergency care.

  • I remember watching this when I was younger. I was a big fan of Emergency! This cartoon premiered in 1973, which was the series third season. There were also new episodes in 1974. One was where Bananas the monkey took a picture of an arsonist. Another was two men going around stealing bicycles. This was a good show. I wish Boomerang would broadcast it, but I don't know if they have the rights to this series.

  • I remember watching this show on Saturday mornings when I was little. I remember it was the first time I heard the term "buddy breathing". I do have one ep on video now, called "SOS: Help Us". It's about a father and son who get trapped in the mountains during a major forest fire.

  • @HardyGirl66 That episode has now been posted here on you-tube. I only vageuly remembered the cartoon, being fairly young when it was broadcast. Emergency was my fav show for many years and continues to be so.

  • i've never actually seen this, i wasnt around. but i really want to! please could somebody tell me where i could watch at least one of the episodes? or could somebody upload one? please? ^_^

  • I loved this show, as I would get up at 7:00 a.m. every Saturday when I was a child. This was back when there were cartoons on TV that were worth watching. Nevertheless, "Emergency +4" was one of my favorites. Likewise, living in Tornado Alley, made the episode with the tornadoes very real for me and my friends. I would love to see this show back out on DVD!

  • I have 4 episodes on Super 8 mm film, but I have no way to transfer it to DVD.

  • Not that hard to accomplish....just go to a place that specializes in transferring Super 8 mm film to video. They'll do that for a reasonable price-just check the phone book or Google it.

  • YO this show was the joint back in the day. You just brought me way back

  • THANK YOU VERY, VERY MUCH for posting this! I was a fan of not only 'Emergency', but this cartoon as well! My favorite episode? Definitely the one with the tornado (which was relevant, as I live in "tornado alley"). Sure would be nice to see the complete episodes on DVD. Thanks for the memories!

  • Damn I remember this when I was a kid...IM ANCIENT!!

  • id say the same thing.....i think i was like 6 when this was on

  • I love the video degradation toward the end!

  • Thanks for showing this!!

  • Once seeing this after 30+ years,it brought back the memory of the "tornado" episode too (my fave as I recall) which I had completely forgotten about. Actually it's amazing how much your memory can store & you don't realize it. As I saw this a good part of it all came back to me. Thanks for posting!

  • This is awesome I read that there was an animated version of the series.I was a baby during that time and it never aired in reruns.I also like the original version that aired on NBC from 72-77 and it's still good and eduacational this very day.

  • when i was a kid i did watch this show, and i did liked it.lol i hope sometime in the future it comes out in d.v.d.

  • Great opening, just one thing that gets me. The station they used for Station 51 (now the RA Cinader Memorial firestation, number 127), does not have a firepole. It is one story.

  • I used to watch this every Saturday morning. The best part was at the end when Randy and Kev would come and talk. I must confess, I was a "Junior Paramedic".

  • Awesome. Hopefully one day they will release all of these toons along with the rest of the E! series.

  • I watched it every Saturday on NBC... Saturday morning will never be the same with the nonsense on now. They do not make tv like they use too fo real. One of these days it will end up on video but we have to bug the Webb family to let somebody have the rights to the show.

  • I remember watching this cartoon when I was a kid too. Seeing the tornado near the end of the opening sequence is what I remembered the most. Any word if we'll get to see the 16 episodes on video someday?

  • Though I am sure I watched this as a kid since I loved the regular show, I don't remember.

  • Wow, I had totally forgotten about this. I was a fan of the regular show, but my brother was a nut. He had the Emergency fireman's rescue kit with the oxygen tank and the whole nine yards. Boy, this brings back memories, even though I was more of a Star Trek/Six Million Dollar Man type of kid.

  • Boy I loved this show and the regular TV series.

  • Man I never knew that there was a cartoon show. I only watched the other one.

  • I'd forgotten there was a cartoon version of the show. lol

  • This brought back a lot of memories. I haven't seen this since 1975! Thanks for posting.

  • NBC desparately wanted SOMETHING to prop up its Saturday morning schedule in the fall of 1973- and what better way to do it than a cartoon version of "EMERGENCY!", with kids? Only 16 episodes were produced, and were repeated until 1975.

  • I barely rememebr this cartoon.

  • You took the words right from my mouth. It's coming back to me though....I simply loved the 'wocka, wocka, wocka' electric gee-tar as a kid. Thanks for the post...its making me ganglia dance.

  • me too,I was starting to think I imagined it.glad to know I didn't.

  • I bet those kids and that bird really came in handy during rescues.

  • To anyone old enough to remember this show: which episode was your favorite? I remember the two parter where Johnny and Roy were in the Grand Canyon and Johnny ends up getting hit in the head by a boulder; the entire episode is Johnny flashing back to previous adventures while Roy and this other guy were trying to get him to a hospital. I was at least five or six when I saw that episode and that was almost thirty years ago, so do the math. :-)

  • That was my favorite episode too. I don't remember much about the cartoon, but that was a good episode. You have a good memory - we're about the same age, but I didn't recall that episode as well as you did. Thanks for sharing your memory of the show.

  • One of my fav episodes was involving a train wreck in the mountains. A rescue train was going up the hill to the derailed train, and several cars broke loose from the first train & were running down the hill on a collision course. The AA teenager went to warn the engineer of the rescue train using a new-fangled device in the early '70s--a hang glider.

  • OMG - I havent seen this since I was kid!!!! Emergency was one of my fav shows - even the animated version!

  • Dude, where on Earth did you manage to find this? I did a search for this thinking it the longest of longshots. :) I used to watch this when I was a kid.

  • I barely remembered this, but once I saw that sequence with the twister at the beginning, it all came flooding back. Thanks for posting!

  • I knew they did a cartoon of Emergency but never got to see it... until now. That was COOL! Thanks for posting!

  • I used to watch this show when I was 6 and haven't seen it till now!

  • This wasn't a Hanna-Barbera show, it was actually produced by Fred Calvert Productions but Hanna-Barbera animators Edwin Aardal, Ed DeMattia, Allen Wilzbach, and Don Schloat [then with Filmation] and background artist Walt Peregoy all worked on this show which explains the early 70s Hanna-Barbera look, the background music even has that funky sound effect heard on alot of Hanna-Barbera shows at the time.

  • By the way, the animation looks like it was done by Hanna-Barbera. At the end of each episode, before the closing sequence, the real-life actors would briefly lecture us about the safety lessons learned. This cartoon taught as well as entertained. Any chance of releasing this on DVD?

  • I used to watch this cartoon on NBC when I was ten, and I had never been able to find it since it originally aired. Thanks.
