@thatonetallkid444 Thanks dude.......I wish I could do that for you but I don't use tabs so the prospect of writing up a tab for this cover is not do'able for me. I having a hard enough time these days with recording an acceptable take of my cinderella man cover for a colab. It's been multiple weekends of tries and I still havnt captured my best go.... :)
@CrankUpTheAmps Thank you very much! I think this was my first ever post to YT. I am going to re-record this cover soon. I play it completely different these days...much more attack and fingering the right hand more flemenco (I guess you would call it)
My only criticism would be to maybe attack the strings a little harder with the right hand. That is if you're really going for the Geddy Lee tone. Otherwise it sounds great, man.
First time watching you. I was riveted, I would swear it was Geddy. Great job.
I know you don't tab, but could you just walk through the 3 second interval at 0:44 - 0:46 leading into the first verse. I've watched it many times and can't seem to nail it. thx.
If you guys have ever studied Neil's lyrics, you know where his influences in objectivism come from. I'm no disciple of anyone, but I'm running a congressional campaign that will be based on those same philosophies. I'd be much obliged if you'd all critique my video's for my campaign.
PS I also put a few of my old guitar solo's in there for you.
because geddy uses a little bit of overdrive on his sound, i can almost guarantee you that wnils didn't used any disotrtion for this video, but its a fucking great cover!!!!
Yea...i hear that every time now-a-days. I posted this about two weeks after the album came out and play it a bit differently these days. Mostly right hand fingering diffs but that note your pointing out is another diff. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks Cosmo! For me, covering Geddy is like a never ending quest for perfection. I hear nuances on so many levels in all his performances and I strive (and usually fail) to emulate. For me, I find this quest enjoyable and fulfilling. For others, not so much.... ;)
all you fags who are leving bad commints about his playing need to shut the fuck up at least he is doing something with his time insted of critisizing other peoples playing
Thanks for posting this, very nice playing. I am looking at buying one of these too, and came here looking for vids. I like that you can play that bass with a deeper and more full tone as well as the crunchier tone i hear on other videos.
Amazing cover man. I think you need to add a bit of "dirt" to the sound though. Maybe use a slight bit of overdrive. Other than that, 5 stars. You rock.
man i love this, great job--I'm a guitarist but I've also been a tuba player my whole part so I really appreciate the bass part alot more then alot of guitarists--I'd love to even be half this good on bass
I play circumstances but it's not up to snuff for YT. I have been working the kinks out of Cinderella Man lately though......Might get that on up before too long. Gonna use the Rick for that tune. :)
Very good indeed! I just test drove a Geddy Lee Jazz bass today at guitar center....it was nice. I do like the Squier fretless jazz bass too. Decisions decisions.
Not good enough to figure it out by ear....so....do you think you could tab it up to charging up the young? Nevermind the intro...I was able to figure it out. The one sample I found doesn't work. I'll owe you one.
never tabed anything before...... sounds like more of a project than I have time for these days.... I'd love to help ya, but playing by ear, I've never spent any time even looking at tabs.
Crockettsonny, to be a REAL fan you don't have to own any of his peices of gear. You just have to like the music. I just saw them live at the tweeter center in camden and wow do they put on an amazing show. Geddy is God!
all it is is a 1972 Jazz Bass Reissue with Geddy's Signature on the Headstock. Best thing to do If u were a REAL fan is get a 1972 Jazz Bass just like it with a Leo Quan Badass Bridge and Rotosound Swing Bass Strings, wire it parallel too
I love the Rickenbacker as well, Main Instrument of the Gedster. Problem is with yous (no pun) Its a red model, not sure of the year. Ged had a 1972 and in 1977 he modified with parallel wiring and fitted a Leo Quan Badass bridge to it. All of his basses were outfitted with it. He also used Rotosound strings on all of hit instruments.
Gah, I'm trying to learn this bass part right now, and It's not going as well as I'd like, considering the fact I'm a drummer haha. But, excellent job as usual :D
by the way <_<
If you have some extra time, PM me if you do, but would you mind possibly walking me through this?
Thanks halotank. I'll see what I can do. It's hard to find extra time these days. Summer is a busy time for me with Rush on tour on top of everything else! ;)
Great job on the cover, sounds dead-on. Your right hand technique looks quite a bit like Geddy's, too. What are you running that Jazz through? That tone is amazing

i dont get it. why does your bass sound so flat? geddys has a really raunchy tone and yours is just flat
07hottie0 2 years ago
He probably wanted to EQ it for more bass instead of brightness and attack, and there's nothing wrong with that.
D4athPanda 2 years ago
oh, i know that but, im just saying, its a rush bass cover, so why not sound like geddy lee

just an observation, in the verse, around ::50-1:00, there isn't a B-G in there, that you are adding at the end. it goes G-A-G

I love them both but the Jazz is really something! I cant say enough about the neck radius. It's thin and fast! Very comfortable. I'll always love my Rick and will continue to pull it out from time to time, but for now, I'm liking the Jazz more.
wnils 4 years ago
Another fantastic job! I'm debating on whether to buy the rick or the jazz next. What's your opinion on them? I'm leaning towards the Geddy signature series.
BASSPOPS 4 years ago
One problem with Ric's is the neck is painted, so you have to use the rag a lot so you dont get that nasty peeling paint feeling
burningxdimx 4 years ago
I've got a Rick 4003. The painted neck doesn't bother me at all. The only time it's a problem is when your hand it sweaty. Otherwise, it plays perfectly.
The Geddy Lee J bass is a good choice too, but I'll take the Rick over a Fender any day.
