  • Very impressive bass playing... I see some of the notes I missed by watching this... THanks!!!

  • @thatonetallkid444 Thanks dude.......I wish I could do that for you but I don't use tabs so the prospect of writing up a tab for this cover is not do'able for me. I having a hard enough time these days with recording an acceptable take of my cinderella man cover for a colab. It's been multiple weekends of tries and I still havnt captured my best go.... :)

  • First Rush song I ever learned. I've been playing it since it came out, and it is still so much fun!

  • This sounds awesome!

  • @CrankUpTheAmps Thank you very much! I think this was my first ever post to YT. I am going to re-record this cover soon. I play it completely different these days...much more attack and fingering the right hand more flemenco (I guess you would call it)

  • My only criticism would be to maybe attack the strings a little harder with the right hand. That is if you're really going for the Geddy Lee tone. Otherwise it sounds great, man.

  • First time watching you. I was riveted, I would swear it was Geddy. Great job.

I know you don't tab, but could you just walk through the 3 second interval at 0:44 - 0:46 leading into the first verse. I've watched it many times and can't seem to nail it. thx.

  • You are so amazing!!!!!!!!!

Geddy is one of the best bassist of the world. He is a very good singer and he play bass like a beast.

Keep the work did you got a band?

  • @FooMath666 Thanks man....

  • excellent job - Geddy would be proud!

  • no problem its ok:D

  • oh ok awesome playing thoughxD

  • thanks kyleedissi1014......and sorry i couldn't help with the tabs. :)

  • heyy can you give me the tabs???

  • sorry, I don't use tabs.

  • beautiful bass man, and great cover too!! keep rocking!

  • Thank you 12SDOX

  • i dont get it. why does your bass sound so flat? geddys has a really raunchy tone and yours is just flat

  • He probably wanted to EQ it for more bass instead of brightness and attack, and there's nothing wrong with that.

  • oh, i know that but, im just saying, its a rush bass cover, so why not sound like geddy lee

  • because geddy uses a little bit of overdrive on his sound, i can almost guarantee you that wnils didn't used any disotrtion for this video, but its a fucking great cover!!!!

  • You are correct sir!.....and thanks again.

  • bad ass bass and cover :)

  • Niceness dude! Its an awesome bass line. (It reminds me of the Boston "Peace of Mind" bass line.) You did an awesome job. Keep it up!

  • nice bass

  • just an observation, in the verse, around ::50-1:00, there isn't a B-G in there, that you are adding at the end. it goes G-A-G

  • Yea...i hear that every time now-a-days. I posted this about two weeks after the album came out and play it a bit differently these days. Mostly right hand fingering diffs but that note your pointing out is another diff. Thanks for the comment.

  • 5 stars! Excellent. I am learning bass & trying this cover. Watched yours, you are so relaxed and right on!!!!

  • Thanks emusedone!

  • Keep up the good work mate. You're learning basslines from the god like genius that is Geddy Lee.Nice flamenco playing style in the chorus btw!!

  • Thanks Cosmo! For me, covering Geddy is like a never ending quest for perfection. I hear nuances on so many levels in all his performances and I strive (and usually fail) to emulate. For me, I find this quest enjoyable and fulfilling. For others, not so much.... ;)

  • Brilliant!

  • all you fags who are leving bad commints about his playing need to shut the fuck up at least he is doing something with his time insted of critisizing other peoples playing

  • WHAT WAS THAT? the opening riff you're just moving your index. Put some soul into it, like Geddy does.

  • love the video and the bass

    just startin to learn

  • nice bass

  • o-yea....very fun to play!

  • Thanks for posting this, very nice playing. I am looking at buying one of these too, and came here looking for vids. I like that you can play that bass with a deeper and more full tone as well as the crunchier tone i hear on other videos.

  • Nice.. one of the better ones i have seen.

  • Thanks!

  • Amazing cover man. I think you need to add a bit of "dirt" to the sound though. Maybe use a slight bit of overdrive. Other than that, 5 stars. You rock.

  • wow great playing, you should be in a band!

do you use a tab? if you (or anyone else) uses an accurate one for this song can you please let me know?

  • Thanks tigeraven2112.......sorry through...no tabs

  • I'm thinking about getting a Geddy Lee, are they worth it?

  • Totally worth it

  • Are you in a band? The playing is just great.... we need more people like Geddy!

I wa beggining to loose all hope that anyone still listened to RUSH... not many in the UK seem to know who they are!

    Great vid!

  • Thanks Tarim06!

Not in a band. Hard to find like minded fanatics... ;)

  • its surprising that fanatics get such a bad name these days - wonder why :0)

Still a class bit of playing nice one! should turn the guitar volume up a bit though :)

  • U need a band Dude this cover was flawless you would make a great permanent bass player for a band

  • Thank-you Bowtome09!

  • awesome playing man.

I just learned how to play this one, thanks to you!

By the way, the Geddy Jazz Bass is awesome, i have one too. Nice gear and you rock!

  • Thank-you bfxavier!

  • just think dude, well, me being 14, it would be pretty damn hard to do that while singing

  • man i love this, great job--I'm a guitarist but I've also been a tuba player my whole part so I really appreciate the bass part alot more then alot of guitarists--I'd love to even be half this good on bass

I need one! Keep on rocking! Rush Rocks!

  • Excellent! Glad you liked it. My 10 yr old started Trombone this year. She has really taken to it. Tuba sounds cool also.

  • excellent job!

    love the bass

i hope to get one soon

    think u could do circumstances?

  • Thank you. It's a great Bass!

I play circumstances but it's not up to snuff for YT. I have been working the kinks out of Cinderella Man lately though......Might get that on up before too long. Gonna use the Rick for that tune. :)

  • Your bass sounds nice.

  • TY man.

  • man, that bass line is so killer, and its fun to play.

  • Sure is........love it!

  • man dude that was awesome. I'm thinking of buying a Geddy Lee Jazz. Goodjob. I'm in awe of you. lol :-o

  • Thanks!

  • Holy shit, 45-1:09 im doing right on the bass, i just try songs out without lookin at tabs and stuff, thx man, this vid was helpful.

  • Awesome! Glad it's helping....

Remember that this is just my take on this tune. Nothing "official" about it. :)

  • Have you ever tried to copy Abraham Laboriel? I think he's the only guy I've heard that is better than Geddy.

  • i don't think anybody is better than geddy

  • play this and sing at the same time, Geddy Lee is the best!

  • Amen brother!

  • over all it is a great video. Great video and so damn good playing.

  • bruce?

  • Very nice dude. I learned a lot watching this. Keep on !!

  • Very good indeed! I just test drove a Geddy Lee Jazz bass today at guitar center....it was nice. I do like the Squier fretless jazz bass too. Decisions decisions.

  • I would love to add a fretless to my collection someday!........

  • Not good enough to figure it out by ear....so....do you think you could tab it up to charging up the young? Nevermind the intro...I was able to figure it out. The one sample I found doesn't work. I'll owe you one.

  • never tabed anything before...... sounds like more of a project than I have time for these days.... I'd love to help ya, but playing by ear, I've never spent any time even looking at tabs.

  • its on ultimate guitar . com

  • nice i am thinking of playing bass

  • nice!

  • Glad you liked it........Thank god we still have these guys!!!!!! Go Dirk!

  • Nicely done! The Fender Jazz is the bomb!

  • Thanks again dude!

  • super

  • Thanks!

  • Nice chops. How do you like your Jazz?

  • Thank-you, and I absolutely love it!

  • nice playing!!!!

  • Thanks limo1!

  • Crockettsonny, to be a REAL fan you don't have to own any of his peices of gear. You just have to like the music. I just saw them live at the tweeter center in camden and wow do they put on an amazing show. Geddy is God!

  • TY :)

  • Very nice... check out my take watch?v=0PL0zeKj5OE

  • Thanks sicmick112

  • Another geddy lee?

  • Yea...right... :D

    Thanks Doomguy123

  • all it is is a 1972 Jazz Bass Reissue with Geddy's Signature on the Headstock. Best thing to do If u were a REAL fan is get a 1972 Jazz Bass just like it with a Leo Quan Badass Bridge and Rotosound Swing Bass Strings, wire it parallel too

  • It has the Leo Quan Badass II.

  • I know, still, everything else is just stock equipment. just an additional 80 bucks right there

  • Does my vintage Rick 4001 make me a real fan? Trust me.......I love the Jazz. It's a very nice bass. Stock equipment and all. ;)

  • I love the Rickenbacker as well, Main Instrument of the Gedster. Problem is with yous (no pun) Its a red model, not sure of the year. Ged had a 1972 and in 1977 he modified with parallel wiring and fitted a Leo Quan Badass bridge to it. All of his basses were outfitted with it. He also used Rotosound strings on all of hit instruments.

  • Gah, I'm trying to learn this bass part right now, and It's not going as well as I'd like, considering the fact I'm a drummer haha. But, excellent job as usual :D

    by the way <_<

If you have some extra time, PM me if you do, but would you mind possibly walking me through this?

  • Thanks halotank. I'll see what I can do. It's hard to find extra time these days. Summer is a busy time for me with Rush on tour on top of everything else! ;)

  • Thanks shesintheair!

  • Thanks rushlover56. Yea...I'll be in Mansfield, Ma and Saratoga, NY.

  • you are awesome. AND THAT BASS IS FREAKING GOD OF BASSES i thought that was perfect are you going to any of their shows?

  • Great job on the cover, sounds dead-on. Your right hand technique looks quite a bit like Geddy's, too. What are you running that Jazz through? That tone is amazing

  • Thanks for the complement geddyflea! All I have is a Line6 LowDown LD175. It's enough for me to rock down in the "Man Cave" ;)

  • It's like your hand is some kind of crazy musical spider...

  • Boris ;-)

  • From a huge Rush fan to another. I really think you did an awesome job with "Far Cry" and words can not express how much I really liked this video. I have recommended to a lot of my friends at college who are Rush fans. Keep them videos coming. 100 stars!

  • Thank you Rush1986bass! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'll try to add more soon... :)

  • I tried out the geddy bass at guitar center and it was amazing.the sound that you get for the price of this bass is amazing

  • Rock on!!!!

  • nice, could u send me a video of how to play this,im havin trouble with the chorus and parts of the verse

  • Thanks BASSPOPS,

I love them both but the Jazz is really something! I cant say enough about the neck radius. It's thin and fast! Very comfortable. I'll always love my Rick and will continue to pull it out from time to time, but for now, I'm liking the Jazz more.

  • Another fantastic job! I'm debating on whether to buy the rick or the jazz next. What's your opinion on them? I'm leaning towards the Geddy signature series.

  • One problem with Ric's is the neck is painted, so you have to use the rag a lot so you dont get that nasty peeling paint feeling

  • I've got a Rick 4003. The painted neck doesn't bother me at all. The only time it's a problem is when your hand it sweaty. Otherwise, it plays perfectly.

The Geddy Lee J bass is a good choice too, but I'll take the Rick over a Fender any day.
