@Nexus5001 Albinos do not exist in the African Dwarf Frog species. It was most likely an African Clawed Frog, a close cousin of this frog. The store may have mislabeled it, which happens often.
@Nexus5001 I recently read that it's impossible for the African Dwarf frog to be albino, though the African Clawed frog can and is very often mistaken and sold in pet stores as the African Dwarf. I guess the main difference in the two is the Clawed frogs back feet are webbed but it's hands are not. The Dwarf however has both it's hands and feet webbed.
Hey could I keep any in my five gallon with my Betta? If so how many? Also do you think I should have frogs or fish with my Betta? Do these frogs go with shrimp as well? Thank you!:)
Umm I can tell one of my frogs Frisch but I'm not sure about the other and I don't know what sex the other one is is there anyway to tell a male from female!
Its actually a mating call. When I was younger and I had my ADFs that noise kept me awake all night. I tried to turn on music to block it out. Yeah that didn't work. The next morning is when i found out that my 2 adfs were a male and a female... they laid eggs 3 times. None of the eggs lived. Then my female died and last week my male died. :(
So when they sing is it audible without having to "mike" the tank? In other words can you hear them if you are just standing next to the tank? I have four males and have never heard them sing. I wish they would. Often they hug each other... cute as crap! Gay frogs!
hes looking for a female....see his arm pits the little bumps....the females dont have this and they are bigger more arrow shaped.....i had a mating pair and raised tads into froglets....if you get a girl...keep them seperate for a while to make sure she's not sick and see what you can do......cheers
Mine still mates with my female, but doesn't sing. I guess since there's only 1 female in the tank, not much point trying to attract more that don't exist.
@stormbreaker91746 Oh yeah. I just got back from Puerto Rico. The Coqui is amazing. It can throw it's voice to confuse any predators. I looked everywhere to try and find one but they are clever. There are bazilliions of them in PR and now in Hawaii. Hawaii is over run with them because there are no natural predators there to eat them.
It's amazing how he sounds like a tiny electric motor. At first I thought it was the auto focus on your camera, but when you moved around and it only sounded near the one you were focused on, I realized it WAS the frog.
@rabidvoodoocat your pH needs to be higher than that. More like 7.2-7.5 ADF's like it a bit high. So if your keeping other fish with an ADF, make sure they can survive with the higher pH levels. Hope I've helped :)
I love it, I have 3 males, 4 females (breeding bunch). I have never heard any of my males so this is cool. Anyhow I love the setup and he seems so happy. Although I dont think that he really liked you filming him lol. He must be a little camera shy!
changed temp higher and lower, and still no singing. had the males for many months now. what should i change? salinity, ph, so on? right now my ph is a bit lower then 7.0, in between neutral and acidic.

aww, i have 2 males and 3 females for a couple months now and they haven't sung at all! does it have to do with temperature or lighting to mimic breeding season?
@AshesxAndxWine but water too warm can cause blood clots in the eyes... just saying that because most people that own ADFs do not know that. also- did you know bamboo isnt an aquatic plant? it will rot if its roots are in the water.
@AshesxAndxWine Yah. Just saying... warm water is very general. You should have wrote temp. Like I said, what some people consider warm is pretty colds to ADFs or otherwise. Also- your just pretty bamboo lucky! Glad to hear it isnt rotting :3 just warning you.
@rabidvoodoocat I just got my first ADF that I have had in years, and I'd like to create a good environment as possible for it. If you could answer a few questions for me, that would be wonderful. 1. What temp do you keep your tank at? Mine is around 74F. 2. I have had this frog 2 days and all he has done is hidden in a rock cave and not left. I was told he will eat the fallen food on the floor, what do you feed yours? Lastly, should I put some plants or more camoflouge in there? Thanks.
@5stringofFernandoSor Well, haha my frog ate a live fish the other day when I introduced some feeders to the tank, I also feed him sinking fish food balls, and they say that they don't eat regular fish flakes but mine does. maybe my frog is just a fatty.
Hi i cant tell if my african dwarf frog is male or female is there any other way of fniding out without looking at the legs? Also is the larger Frog the female or the smaller one?
I just got two frogs yesterday after doing lots of research and this video really helps on how to tell a male from the female. Still not quite sure what mine are since they are hiding from me lol. Hope they like me soon and hope I get a singing boy!
@jake247Y Male frogs have small pimple like bumps under their front legs. You can see them on my male frog. The males also can only sing. Females don't. My frogs have laid eggs 4 times now.

one of mine makes that sound! just started to and now won't stop! he's skinnier than the other and the other doesn't have a noticeable male gland, white "pimple". do you think its a girl? the singing one tried to grab onto the other to mate but let go..still singing.
