  • Looks like some whiplash to me.

  • Hey, Matt, do you like apples?

  • He must have got paid a million to get hit like that.

  • @kwsn, 1.because he hit horton in the face with an elbow 2. because he plays for the filthy canucks

  • It's clean but quite blindside. Why the hell wouldn't it get suspended?

  • @nwasroma your parents are brother and sister and clearly should not have mated

  • Great hit

  • Staal would get 10 games for this clean hit today...which sucks.

  • @KennGM actually he wouldn't. this hit was specifically included in the dvd shanahan and the NHL distributed as an example of a clean hit.

  • @kwsn so why was aaron rome suspened in the stanley cup finals ? if that hits clean ?

  • Stajan looked like a rook out there man and he paid for it. I love the Staal brothers they play good hard hockey.

  • fuck, boyle's skate came so close to his head

  • made him look like a bitch.

  • Same thing Rome did to Horton besides that one being a little late.

  • @MrMetallica1294 the lateness was the main factor in rome's hit. stupid, but those are the rules.

  • Milbury: Stajan was sleeping before the hit and alot sleepier after. Classic Milbury...brutally honest and speaks his mind. Not to mention he and I are on the same page regarding pretty much every issue having to do with the games physicality.

  • This resembles the recent Komisarek hit on Olver a couple nights ago.

No penalty, no suspension, PERFECT. If they remove hits like this one or komi's, it's just pussifying the NHL. They might as well just make hitting illegal

  • @Xgames13 yeah why not? it's the only way they can solve the problem

  • Stajan is a bum who gets hit like this all the time he never learns

  • Keep in mind guys, it's sometimes tough to judge a hit. When you line up a big hit, there is a good chance it will miss, and a good chance it will not land as intended.

Just a thought to keep. Yes, players can intend injuries, but don't forget hockey is a game of thousands of split second decisions and sometimes those circumstances lead to injuries. It's part of the game.

Yes, regulate head shots, but don't hate on a player JUST because he hit questionably. It could be an accident. Cheers.

  • @DJK290 if you were to regulate headshots then you would go against everything you just said

  • @NHLArchive

No. They might call the penalty, but in terms of suspension is should be done as the Criminal Justice System. You have to prove the act (which is easy in this case) AND you have to prove intent.

And I said sometimes shit happens, and that people should take into account the player's character and not just hate blindly.

I don't know what you read that makes you think I contradicted myself, it was a whole thought.

  • @DJK290 you agree with a headshot rule, but you say that some headshots can be accidental, meaning there should be no headshot rule

  • @NHLArchive

I did not say that at all. You are assuming without comprehending. Seek first to understand, then be understood.

I am saying that although the rule might stand and suspensions will happen, don't just hate on a player simmply because he headshotted a favourite player (I am speaking to everyone). Sometimes shit happens and yes, the player has to pay the price for his mistake, but don't assume he is "dirty" because he made a mistake that might not have been intentional.

  • @DJK290 dude, just write in normal english, which i am quite articulate in, your initial reply was quite vague, and I get that your trying to say that accidents can happen, but that is the reason you don't have a headshot rule

  • @NHLArchive

I am speaking normal English. I just think one dirty hit, unless it is plainly intentional, should not hamper a player's career or reputation just because of a questionable hit. Shit happens. When I was in flight school back in the day I was a great pilot - top of my class. That didn't stop me from running a plane into a ditch by accident while taxiing too fast and breaking an engine. Shit happens.

  • @DJK290 I know you are speaking normal English, but you are writing in convoluted, contrived way. We all get your main point, it is common sense that you don't blame a guy for one incident, but what I don't understand is what you are saying about a headshot rule.

  • @NHLArchive

I have nothing against the headshot rule. The main point was my only point. That just because he breaks the rule, don't assume he's dirty. It could have been an accident. There is no other point.

  • @DJK290 Staal didn't break the rule, I think this would be more suited for the Thornton hit on Perron, which was a clean hit anyways, Thornton just happens to be taller.

  • @NHLArchive

I'm not saying he did break the rule. And you are right the Thornton hit is more relevant to it. Shit happens.

  • @DJK290 The Thornton hit wasn't "shit happening" He hit a guy who had his head down and was punished for it.

  • Sleepy before the hit and a lot sleepier after...Classic

  • Perfectly clean hit. Shoulder down, skates never left the ice, no hit from behind. Perfectly legal.

  • lol you're saying that you can't get caught with your head down if you're talented? look at lafontaine lindros kariya, all out with post concussion syndrome. savard will have a hard time finding confidence for a long time and if he gets concussed again could be forced to retire..

  • @84hotshot84 Those guys are anomalies. Matt Stajan has been rocked countless times in his career and never seems to skate with his head up, he also isn't a superstar

  • thanks for calling me a moron. I just don't like seeing talented players deal with the same symptoms I do, clean hit or not. yes his head was down but the contact to the head isn't necessary, staal could have hit him in ten different ways without making head contact.

  • @84hotshot84 did what i just say float over your head? Again enjoy players skating with their heads down, I wasn't notified that that equaled talent.

  • it's clean but I can't stand seeing these hits anymore. stajan is a another good player who could be in the same situation as savard now, choosing between career and a longer life with a healthier brain

  • @84hotshot84 you like players who skate with their heads down? Marc Savard is coming back this week, i just picked him up in fantasy. You are a moron.

  • howcome after these huge hits the guy that is hurt always tries to get up and then falls? is it bc like he's dizzy? or what? lol

  • @pinkhott29

Try to get hit to the head like they do and then try to get up. Fucking idiot.

  • clean

  • In years past I would say Stajan should have protected himself, but this doesn't look much different than the Thorton, or Doan hit. If those hits are against the 'new' rules, obviously this isn't a clean hit.

  • @jmich328 what? even if those "hits" were suspended, the doan one wasn't even a hit, the thornton one was a bad call, this one is nothing like those, and it still should be stajan's job to keep his head up, or do you condone watching players skate with their heads down? Some people need to CALM THE FUCK DOWN with this new rule and quit over-analyzing big hits.

  • @NHLArchive i agree. stajan never keeps his head up. Search up the video where Johnny Boychuk annihilated him and you'll see.

  • @jmich328 you guys are retarded. youre allowed to hit in hockey if you take that away you ruin the game. Stajan had his head down he should have seen staal coming he wouldnt have a piece of it to the face

  • @jmich328 Thornton and Doan are "examples" how many people watch Pacific division games? they are on too late, therefore players wont be that missed by fans.

he is a staal and on a more popular team, why suspend him?

just like Tootoo sucker punching Robidas = suspension

Crosby's sucker punch = "fantastic fight"

  • Mike Milbury is such an asshole - I can't believe has a job as a hockey commentator

  • @muckmuckification how is he an asshole? he was completely right, stajan is an idiot

  • @NHLArchive

This comment aside, if you don't think Milbury is an asshole you don't know hockey.

  • @meanwiddlekid Milbury knows about the physical side of the game, don't even kid yourself that he doesn't, if your talking about him whining about other teams in the division you have a point, but his analysis here is dead on.

  • i love blindside head shots

  • @chance2279 this wasn't one

  • Stupid by Stajan, I think it is a hit to the head, and by the rules of the current NHL it should be a suspension. People have been suspended for less and suspended for more.

  • kool video

  • Keep your head up moron!

  • Maybe this is payback for Glencross's hit on Drury last year which ,by the way, was a blind side hit to the head. The Rangers did nothing at the time to avenge the hit.

  • @dd9s that hit was suspended because it was interference and to the head

  • looks just like thornton's hit. It joe wasn't as tall this is what it would've looked like. Stupid NHL retards!!!

  • Best hit of the season, no question.

It's nice to see a clean devestating hit for a change

  • totally clean from an unbiased (canadian, neither rangers or flames fan) viewpoint

  • unreal hit, soooo sick...no need for suspension, there is a difference between a hit to the head, and a hit where the impact is absorbed by the whole body like this one

  • Good hit , who else seen the trailing Ranger go clean over stajan lol

  • CLEAN CLEAN HIT

  • BOOM BOOM BOOM WHAT A HIT

  • accidently to the head, but hey, that's why girls don't play this kind of game. A nice pop.

  • wonderful hit!

  • Staal won't be suspended

  • @NHLArchive

    Nor should he

You don't watch your pass go buy in hockey and say it's pretty, otherwise you will get destroyed. This should be a lesson that you have to keep your head up. Good call on the NHL's part

  • @GreenFenril but after so many normal hits have been called/fined/suspended this year some people were a bit worried

  • Hey Stajan, I enjoy watching you get your ass clobbered in an open ice hit every year! It's retards like you who are ruining this sport, because the rules are being changed to protect careless players like you. I wish you would just hang'em up and disappear, because you have no business playing in a league alongside men. Learn to play hockey. Even a frickin' 12 year old knows to keep his head up; go play in Germany. Better yet go play in traffic. I bet you do that too.

  • clean hit. Keep your head up, never admire your pass.

  • clean hit. THATS WHY YOU NEVER admire your pass. Everyone should know that.

  • If Staal gets into shit over that hit, then hockey is officially in trouble.

  • perfectly clean. elbow down. leads with body and shoulder. thats fine. marc staal is a big guy. 6'4

  • Owned

  • You wanna talk dirty hits? Contrast this masterpiece to Glencross' despicable cheap shot on Drury last year.

  • Atta boy Mills keep your head up or get clobbered.

  • only issue is that staal is taller but he definitely did not elbow or jump and he essentially comes from in front of stajan.

  • questionable, close to the head

  • @HabsFanTom not questionable at all, hits with head contact are legal, watch staal's hip, that is where the most contact is

  • @NHLArchive

good call, didn't really see it that way til you mentioned it

  • Oof.

  • clean

  • clean hit stajans helmet went flying down the ice

  • Milbury is a class act LOL. But he's not wrong. Keep your friggin' head up!

  • @marijumanji Milbury is dead on when commentating on physicality, other areas of the game, not so much.

  • @NHLArchive Or at being a GM. Killed my fucking team for years! lol

  • did stajan leave the game?

  • @hockeyqueen im pretty sure he did

  • Stajan has been cranked by Erik Christensen for heaven's sake

  • staal is a plug.

  • @flamesfan342 In what way? that was perfect execution.

  • @flamesfan342

    Your head is a plug.

  • @meanwiddlekid your face is a p.lug

  • You guys seriously need to watch the blindside rule video the NHL made.

Please go find another sport if you think this deserves as suspension but don't destroy this sport I love so much!!

  • It was not a blindside, Stajan would have seen him if he was facing forward, it wasn't principle head contact or tareting the head, Staal hit Stajan's entire body, not just his head. 2 experts right here say it like it is.

  • Looked like a good hit to me..get yer head up Stajan.

  • I don't want to see a suspension, but with the new rule it wouldn't surprise me. It was a blindside hit ti the head.

  • @chileiceman it wasn't a blindside, and the head wasn't the principle point of contact

  • Stajan always gets hit.

Clean clean clean beautiful hockey hit and hopefully Stajan is

    going to be ok.

If staal gets suspended we know Campbell & Co want to destroy the game as we know it.

  • Stajan is a dipshit, he has been destroyed how many times in his career as a result of completely ignoring what is going on around him?

  • @NHLArchive Yea Ive seen him get hit like this a couple of times. But I have yet to see the guy miss any games because of it.

  • @Stevenio he must be a masochist
