I am sorry about my comment if it offended you. However, I still think that discrimination is a huge problem in this country. I once had a friend who claimed to be part Cherokee and yet would speak very ill about Mexican people. The problem is that many white Americans don't realize that most Mexicans and South Americans are essentially of Native American descent just like the Sioux or Cherokee. Ignorance is still very rampant in our society. But your response was sincere and true and thank you.

I know we ALL deserve to celebrate life, so what we need to do is change what the day means. The negative perspective is painful, the genocide is a reality, was a reality and probably is secretly going on still. But it is true that the ppl whose nations promoted the new world came here to escape famine/death but they ALL weren't "killers" so some do have that right to be HAPPY about their own ppl.

WOW, that was incredible. I'm concerned though, not confused, about Columbus Day. The non-indigenous ppl celebrate it because they believe the fantasy behined it, majority don't realize and don't accept that it resembles genocide. I refuse to attend the celebrations because it means nothing to me, except anger.Anyway I don't like violence and the children of these ppl. don't deserve to be humiliated for their parades,an extracurricular activity that promotes part of the economy.

again, you are ignorant and have diarrhea of the mouth. there used to be about 50 million natives in north america before colonization, now theres roughly 2.5 million. even someone like you could see theres something wrong with those numbers. europeans came to america with their wars and diseases and decimated the population. there are more peaceful ways of spreading "civilization" as i said, than stealing land and forcefully removing people or just outright killing them.

Your research is terrible. Reliable and knowledgeable historians and anthropologists place the population of North America at about 7-12 millino and certainly no higher than 20 million prior to Columbus discovering America. Due to their genetic makeup, they were vulnerable to any contact with well-traveled people. Disease was going to impact native populations sooner or later, as eventually someone would have traveled to North America.
