In my book the guy was simply 'GREATNESS' incarnate.

Perfect example of how Bolan could play one note in the right place and be more effective than some guitar players who play long, flashy, million note guitar solos(like the few high end notes he hits during the build up vocal part near the end after "a kingly thing" and then the one note he hits after "from whence you know"...they blow me away every time I hear them).
