hi please can you help i just had a white crown fitted and have noticed he has cut some of the gum away and its not that the gum has gone down becouse of the temp cap you can see where there is missing gum and now the gum is about 4 or 5 mm lower than the rest of the gum and 3 mm lower than the bottom of the crown its self would this couse problems for me down the line or at any time someone please help thanks
Those sound like porcelain fused to metal. sometimes these crowns are used for strength. The metal is a strong material that many dentist use to prevent a crown from breaking.
@MrMosheMoll It's called a curing lite. The light activates the material that we are using to build up the tooth. When the light hits the material at a certain wavelength the material goes from a moldable consistency to being hard.
@MrMosheMoll ok so wat the light does is when they put the special kind of cement on ur tooth aka filling the light helps it get hardened so it wont fall out
question: these new "Cerec" machines that make the crown in the office.....are these crowns just solid porcelain (with no base metal underneath)? If yes, wouldn't those be subject to cracking alot easier than a crown with a base metal?
@inkey2 Cerec and E4d(Cad-Cam) both allow the fabrication of in office crowns. The strength depends on the prep design. If the proper amount of tooth is taken away to make the crown even Cerec crowns will perform well. Also if not enough tooth is taken away on a porcelain fused to metal crown, the porcelain can stilll break. Leaving you a little metal coping on your tooth. I hope this helps.
Do Crowns fix gaps in your front teeth? does it hurt, how long does it take? im only 13, can i get this done? what's the difference between crowns and veneers? PLEASE TELL ME! I RREEEAAALLLYYY NEED TO KNOW!!!
@0Jenni1 You asked a lot of good questions. Yes they can fix gaps but we wouldn't do that on a 13 y/o. Probably braces first. No it doesn't hurt. The time it takes depends on how many teeth we are doing . Think of a veneer as if we shave just the front part of the teeth where as a crown is like the video. Every person is different so different treatments are sometimes needed. If you are only 13 you should have your parents discuss your options with your dentist. I hope this helps.
@ChelseeLouisee hey, why would you feel stupid getting a crown at your age? Stuff happens, sports injuries to teeth etc. You are darn lucky you are having it done at 17....you wont have to pay the huge bill
@inkey2 it nothing to do with sports injures are anything, i have a habbit of chewing pen lids so it cracks my tooth, ive already had 2 teeth taken out because of this
I can't say what is normal but no one leaves my office without a temp. Especially on a front tooth. A Long time ago dentist may not put temps on very thin veneer preps or inlay and onlays. I personally haven't heard of any one leaving full coverage anterior crowns un-temporized.
What would you sugggest a Bridge or a tooth implant... I had my bridge done twice and it broke now I don't know if i should do it it again since the tooth next to it is so small from all the drilling to re-shape it. Im afraid I'll loose it should I just get a tooth implant I think it's better off like that then loosing another tooth :(
@gatitoroulette15 Of course every case is different but if an implant is an option that is my preferred treatment. I would discuss this option with your dentist to determine if an implant is right for your.
I'm waiting for my real crown to be made. At the moment I have a temp cap on, I didn't get any anesthetic since it was a dead tooth and I didn't feel a thing.
@TheDentalpro I use the 2 cord technique where one cord is left in during impression. I pull that cord after I seat the temporary. It removes the cement from the sulcus as well as maintains homeostasis.
I just had a Root Canal done, It was about 2 weeks ago, and we didnt have the money until this week, theres a temporary filling in my tooth, but i was wondering... Do you use Novocaine to numb the mouth before the procedure ?
@chelsrockz We still use local to numb the area. The tooth is actually "dead" but the surrounding teeth and gum tissue are still very much vital. The anesthetic actually makes the procedure more pleasant.
That's a tough one. This happens quite often in my office. Dealing with the human body is different than dealing with a car. Meaning, if the battery is bad in your car you get a new battery. Clinical decisions regarding treatment options is sometimes subjective and not straight forward. The only thing I could suggest is to go with the DR that you feel gave you the best explanation and you gut feeling on who you would like to treat you, It would be very difficult to say who's right or wrong
@EdmondSmiles my teeth split into two parts. One doctor said that crown can save it and the other said it is too deep and the tooth has to be pulled out. Don't know what to do now. It costs me more than 100 each visit just to get confused.
Sorry to hear about your accident. Usually you will only have to wear your temps for about a month or so. Usually I tell my patients this, " Your temps are made out of plastic and we put them on with temp cement, If you eat hard stuff like jolly ranchers you will break them, If you eat sticky stuff you will pull them off." You should be able to function just fine with the temps. Use some caution on what you decide to eat and you will be ok! Hope this helps
my teeth split in half also at a work accident, now almost 1 month later i went to the dentist and they also said i need a crown so i guess i can expect the same thing as in this video :P im looking forward to bite on my right side again lol.
I broke my 3 front teeth in an accident, so I need to fix it now ( I had so strong teeth :(( )
so I wanna know can I do normal things with that temporary crowns like chewing, biting, .... does it break easily and how long it lasts if I take a good care.?
Well i have one crucked front tooth so i got a brace but this dint work she suggested a permanent fixed mental wire i had to wear for life but i sed no i will go back and say i want crowns fitted to my front teeth but can you get them bonded to a metal base to make them stronger?????
@supern4t I don't know your particular situation, but sometimes we do use metal underneath a crown. Some crowns are made out of all porcelain and some have a hard white "base" instead of metal. I wish you luck. Let us know how it goes.
A well prepared and placed crown can function just as well as your natural teeth. Well made crowns can have an appearance very similar to natural teeth. Without crowns there would be a ton of people with missing teeth. I personally have a few crowns and I function just fine. i hope this helps.
Man it sucks that I'm going to lose like 50% of my teeth, drilled away. EdmondSmiles, how similar is a crown to my natural teeth? Will it affect my appearance and eating habits?
I have to get a crown because my filling in my back teeth fell out. Im scared to death! Well im only scared of the numbing stuff they shoot you up with because i have really bad panic attacks and heard the numbing stuff can cause you to panic. Can you use numbing stuff without ephedrine? Also i have to get all my wisdom teeth pulled cause they have cavities and the den. said they were to hard to clean back there. I really hate this! didnt think i would be getting them pulled at 25.
That's sad to hear. You asked a good question. Getting a crown doesn't mean you will have to get a rootcanal. I don't believe I did a rootcanal on the person in this video. However, if you did need a rootcanal it would probably be done the same day that your teeth are shaped. So you would probably have 2 appointments if all went well. I hope your teeth turn out to be fabulous!
when i was 7 a kid threw a rock at my face and broke 3 of my front teeth in half. Now im 16 but and i have had temps since then but i am going to get permanent ones soon. I am wondering, will i need to get a root canal, and if i do does that mean that it will have to be 3 visits instead of 2 or can the dentist do the root canal then shape my teeth and make the mold on the same day.
IF its not broken too badly someone could do a BIG filling (called a core) on the tooth that MAY last you untill you can get a crown. Assuming that the decay(cavity) is not in the nerve. If the decay is in the nerve then you'll probably need a Rootcanal. Of course its hard to tell without seeing an x-ray
Nice video. I'm just wondering. I have a gap between my 2 front teeth and are slightly larger than normal. Also the tooth to my right front is crooked. A brace did not fix it at all. What procedure could I look into in your oppinion.
@skinbad1 Once again it is hard to say without actually seeing you in person. Wiht that said, usally with a small gap and a crooked tooth a good orthodontist should be able to correct that. For those who don't want to go through braces again sometimes veneers may be an option. Depending on how big the gap is and how crooked the tooth is. Hope this helps
My third molar starting to count from my wisdom tooth has broken in a weird way, I had it fill in the center, one night while i was eating the filling came out and the next morning while I was brushing my teeth a piece of my molar came out is on the side of my cheek lets say 1/2 of the side that is in contact with my cheek came out almost at the gum line, Is a crown the way to go??

Hi Dr Smiles! I just lost a chunk of tooth from the molar (which is already filled)next to the wisdom tooth! It doesn't hurt at all but I'm afraid of getting an abscess. I have done some research and I'm afraid I might require a crown as a significant portion of the tooth has been lost as well as it being about even with the gum line. Is there another procedure which might save what's left of my tooth? Regards!
It sounds like the tooth needs a crown. Think of it this way, if you get a crown now it may prevent you from needing a root canal or having the tooth pulled. Hopefully in this case you can see that this patients tooth was completely broken and a crown was the only option. It's hard to say in your case since I did not see you as a patient.
