@davidrodgersNJ NO, i mean this actual tank. I think it was a Grant, and they converted it into a Sherman. I don't think there are any surviving Shermans in Australia.
But yes the Sherman came from the Lee eventually.
Hey, I was there! The tanks transport was also pretty authentic and cool (parked out of shot). The most frighting thing about this tank was the two mad professors at the controls!
that Depends, Shermans Were Made in 7 Differant Factories, and even one in Canada! Most Shermans were equiped with the GVA- V8 Engines wich were 2 V8 Engines from Truck welded together. And then you had Chrysler Engines, Fords, Cadelac and The List Goes on!
The Ford V-8 started out as a V-12 for aircraft but the Army wanted a tank engine, so they removed 4 cylinders. It has NOTHING to do with any existing engine made by Ford or anyone.
No Cadillac engine was used in the Sherman, Cadillac engines (2 V-8s, but no welded) were used in the M5 Stuarts and M24 Chaffee's.
glad to see someone finally showing what these babys can do not slowly utting it around like its fine china. i know its childish but i loled at the crane called rapier
Nice video, was an awesome sight wasn't it. Whats the documentary you are making about? Just out of curiosity as well. On tanks such as that beauty or the Steam engines and etc at the rally.
The Doco's on the Melbourne Steam Traction Engine Club so it's about stationary & mobile steam plus oil engines, vintage tractors, earthmovers etc. Hope to have it finished in a month or so.
which engine does this sherman have? Detroit Diesels, Continental Radial, Ford GAA?

Isn't this an M3 Lee/Grant that was converted to a Sherman configuration???
agwrangler 1 year ago
@agwrangler I might have this wrong, but I think the Sherman was a sort of re-design of the Lee, which explains why the Sherman was so tall.

this does not sound like a radial engine.. nor the GAA V*... or the Diesel..sounds like a different engine.. so.. hmm.. but very cool indeed
