Similar issues, with very little lighting time! Fully charged batteries lasted an about 10 minutes turned on and that's it! Indicator light turned red. Lamp died.! Lasted an about 20 min on dimmed setting, but still.. i expect a lantern to last at least an hour -to-three of continuous light ! WTF ! Anyone can report better light lifetime?
Just a side note I bought this lantern used it once for 10 minutes. 10 minutes into my Hike/camping trip it stopped turning on even with new batteries. Thank god I brought a backup.

Nice! Get some Rayovac Pre-charged rechargables at Target for $7- and you're good to go! Love the AA format!
