I wonder if that's true because there are more people who say that,but others say it's an urban legend story (or however you call those kind of things,my English isn't very good,that's why I don't know if I use the right words) and that the horse was replaced because he couldn't stay calm during the scene in the Swamps.
Come on guys, it was a movie from twenty years ago. I remember feeling a bit of grief myself, but I can't imagine some of you are still brooding over it as adults after all of these years.
This is funny. This scene is very short in the book...

Probably the most unbelievably emotionally charged scene in any movie I've ever watched.
