What a joke! Derren Brown is a showman who fakes most of what he does! He is a magican who pretends to be using NLP - mindcontrol, but is basically just a showman. So this PHD Genuis uses this as an example! You have got to be kidding me! How much tax payer dollars do we spend on this guys salary!

BS, the woman wasnt deceived by the painting con, you could see her thinking, "Oh well, I gave directions to whoever!" She just wasnt given chance to voice it or it'd ruin the show.
the experiment is not an evidence that people didn't notice the changr. You need to asking them after :did they noticed? and if yes, why they did not talk about it?
though im jus a kid... argh.... do my thoughts deceive me ? arh...tis question over arguement unnecessary... why ask tis way ? tis not right logic question, cause u are asking, as though ur thoughts are by itself independent ? surely everyone knows all thoughts via initiation or variation due to facts and conditions etc.
Somehow, this adds very well to a few of my classes about human/machine interactions, and given me a new insight on how the brain works, suddenly making a few concepts that much more clear.
i see what you are getting at but without understanding the very limits of what is humanly possible a computer is a crude and possibly flawed analogy.
i think there is much research and testing to be done in this area.......
I agree that a computer may not be a correct analogy, but I tend to think that if attention was an inexhaustible resource evolution would have produced a mind that was perpetually alert to everything. It would have definite survival value.
I do think that experimental work will show interesting things about how we can leverage attention. I have little doubt that well developed meditative traditions have insights, and my intuitions about attention may be wrong.
then you'll find yourself having quite an annoying slight headache after a while . . . . awareness is not a focus that you create. it's a focus you allow and really it's not as important as you think.

If you think,"Alcohol is Good"
or something Truly bad, is Good than you are Deceiving yourself.
For example the typical teenager says,"you can't get addicted to smoking weed"
Because we all know, that it is possible you can. and that's why its looked down upon.

Take some organic psychedelic plants/mushrooms then you will know and find out how much you are deceived and cheating yourself! Good luck!
