  • i love your style!!Please teach me??

  • Totally awesome!

  • what chord progession are you using?

  • Uh...the I-IV-V progression that this, and virtually all hymns, use? Use your ears!

  • Outstanding!!! Now, that's how you play a hymn, son!!!!

  • good thing you're using your talent to play good old hyms! Godbless...

  • You have a wonderful gift. That was beautiful...and incredible

  • I want to learn how to play like that.

  • That's exactly how it sounds in a good old-fashioned Baptist church here in the South. Loved it!

  • hey i go to a good old indapendant fundamental baptist church right here in tacoma washington! dont need the south to hear it this way i just go to church and there it is .. :) God bless you though

  • I think you missed my point -- I was complimenting you on the authentic sound/feeling of your excellent performance. That stride/ragtime rendering is how the old-time gospel hymns are often traditionally played in many of the small old-fashioned country Baptist churches here in the South. It's nice that it's spread past its origins here!

  • do you play by ear or notes, and how can i learn to play like you

  • wxsarge07; welcome to the family; as the chorus says "He loved me ere I knew him; and all my love is due him he plunged me to Victory beneath the cleansing flood."

  • Congratulations wxsarge07, Praise the Lord! This is certainly one of my favorites too.

    Excellent playing, caddy!

  • I will forever treasure this hymn. I got baptized last Sunday, and the congregation sang this one before the Pastor immersed me. From now on I probably won't be able to sing this one w/o crying...thanks for the post!

  • how did you develope that style of playing for that song? how did you figure when going up or down on the piano was good?

  • One of the pianists in my church growing up played like this. I just listened to her a lot and tried to imitate her and others I've heard. A lot of it is personal preference.

  • Good playing! Wish you had a fine, in-tune instrument to use for your recordings.

  • is there by any chance you have the sheet music for that piece

  • It's in most hymnals.

  • does that person play by ear or by sheet music

  • I play by both.

  • VICTORY!!

  • OMG! Great version of this hymn - it's my fave! :)

  • This makes me want to learn how to play even more. I am a song leader at my church, and boy do I wished my church had a piano player like that.

  • i would love to hear i'll fly away from you too. this is the best i have heard anyone play.

  • hey man do you think that you could do i'll fly away? it would be awesome if you could. amazing playing.

  • Man your crazy! Victory in Jesus is my favorite hymn and your the best i've heard so far. Awesome job!

  • that is awesome, i would love to hear you play i'll fly away

  • I love this style of playing. I would love to learn this style someday. Please keep adding more of these old songs.

  • Hey Matt, this is Matt Cooney's brother, Kevin. I am sad that I never actually got to meet you. I love your playing! I love playing hymns! I play for my church.

  • Camp meetin' on youtube!! Who'da thunk it? :) Truely awesome.

P.S. ditto to the above comments; there're a few blond-haired blue-eyed boys who dig this, too.

  • Wow!! Praise the Lord! Blessings. :-)

  • Thanks for all the compliments!

  • I wish I could do that. I really enjoy you playing. Thanks and God Bless You.

  • You don't even have to be Christian (I'm not) to enjoy these old standards ... good music well played is a good thing!

  • You don't have to be blue-haired to love these old-fashioned, God inspired hymns!

  • all of the blue-haired ladies at my church would absolutely love this! :)
