That high pitched scratching sound is normal, even for a brand new needle, the only real way to minimise it (or avoid it) is to play the record on a gramophone with a closable lid.

If I were you id find a replacement for that needle. That sound coming from the record cant be good.

Gennett records usually have more noisy surfaces than Columbia, OKeh, or Victor. The shellac Gennett used wasn't as high quality.

@Dms12444 that's a normal scratching sound. i think those needles are made out of lead and can only be used once...idk not an expert ...
