Even Hollywood movies are like that. I think it can be said to all movies. But as far as Japanese movies are concerned, they are really good.

I'm not sure what type you want but if your talking about "middle" category, a Slice of Life type should be good for you. Would I recommend "My Neighbor Yamadas" for you? That's one of my favorites. No "cutesy" or "gory" flicks. Just plain everyday life... but the morals are the real thing.
