Just finished the back yard project and looking forward to getting my Primo XL. I've seen Guru's at competitions on BGE's, good to see it on a Primo as well. I'm sure I'll end up getting a Guru, but for now I'm going to play around with learning to cook on my XL with out it. I started on an offset New Braunfels Hondo, then picked up a great deal on a Good One Open Range, now a Primo XL. Help I'm addicted! thx for the video.
I agree...To much s**t happening here. Low-n-Slow, and if you drink and cook, set an alarm. Nothing like waking up 5 hrs later to discover your meal liquefied and seeping through the grates (the dogs wont even eat it)
@dthendon It's all about convenience here people. I can put a brisket on in the morning go to work and not worry about it. The guru controls the cooker and in the ramp mod shut it down to a hold temp when the meat is ready. I don't understand why it knots everyones knickers so. It's a freek'n tool, if you dont want to use it dont.
@BamaquerOf course if you cook on a machine that has to be fed often it's not near as effective as a ceramic cooker like Primo, Big Green Egg, and so on that you load once, shut the lid and your done for basically as long as your care to cook something.
@Bamaquer I don't see anything wrong with this at all. I have two large competition bbq pits, one being a Lang clone and I plan on using a GURU next season. I think it would be a great tool to load up the fire box and set the GURU and take a nap. I don't see anything wrong with this. I think this is a much better option than buying a fuggin pellet pit.
I'm sure the Green Egg is awsome. I'd love to own one, but for me a lot of the enjoyment of grilling comes from using the know-how that I've accumulated. It just seems like you're using too much tech. for me. But like others, I'm glad you are happy. I have to admit I wouldn't cry if I had that either.
I really dont think you need this much gear cause if you do alot of BBQ then you get to know your grill.... But im not saying it isnt an interesting tool so cheers to that
Would this work on an Chargriller Outlaw grill with the offset firebox? I am very interested in getting one of these. I would love to see a demo using one an offset cooker.
Informative video. Thanks looks like a great tool to have.

@Bamaquer
Ok, I get it. I am man enough to take it back. It is like a crock pot...?
That is a cool concept, but they sure do cost a lot. I will wait for the knock-off's. That patent will expire soon.

Sorry, I'm confused. When the temp gets up to 250, the fan pulses? It isn't constant? How often does it pulse, and how long does a pulse go for?

250 fan on a 140 grill?

That was just an example. I am actually building a towable unit and I am interested in seeing somebody use one of these on an offest smoker.

Too much dodgey stuff, there, mate. Looks like u might be able to fly the space shuttle with all that gear. Good luck.

Glad you liked it.

What brand/model of smoker/cooker are you using in the video?
salvechio 3 years ago
That is a Primo XL Oval ceramic cooker. Primo is the only ceramic made in America. It will be the last cooker you'll ever have to buy.
