  • I am captivated! This fellow pulsates with his music

  • @arrebiate You turn against democracy because the people don't vote the way you want them to or the way you think they ought to. A bit egotistical and arrogant, don't you think? I do not see Chavez as a military man. He seems to have a sea of support amongst the poorest segments of the population. You must ask yourself, how does he earn that support. Is he making sure that the oil revenue benefits the masses? Is that illegitimate? Who should that revenue benefit, if not them?

  • DIOS!!! ESTOY AQUI DE CABEZA PORQUE NO SOPORTO LA TV. VENEZOLANA, NO SOPORTO A CHAVEZ Y ME ENCUENTRO A ESTOS DISCUTIENDO AQUI...! SI PUDIESE IRME A LA LUNA JURO QUE LO HARIA!!!

  • Let's make one thing clear. The Sistema was founded and created during the 70's under the democratic government of that time. Antonio Abreu, an economist and musician, along with other intelectuals and with the support of the government fougth to make it a reality. This is about the only remaining good thing that Chavez has not destroyed during his 10 years of rule. He is banking on it. It continues because it is good propaganda for him and does not dare to touch it. Thank God!! He doesn't.

  • @milouhb Doesn't Chavez also take steps (like Ghaddaffy) to insure that the oil revenue trickles into the hands of ordinary people? Rest asured that I am not a Chavez fan. But there must be a foundation on which his power rests. What is that foundation?

  • TOCAR Y LUCHAR!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great!!!!

  • Give me a break!!!!,.How can you tell that Chavez is involved in this successful music movement in Venezuela? It was the result of the hard work of many venezuelans during decades. Shut up, please. Are you living in Venezuela? Go there, and walk around the country at night, find a good job and try to keep faith in the democracy... sweet dreams!!!!

  • @arrebiate Under the democratically elected government of President Chavez, he has significantly and dramatically increased the budget. He has promised and committed his administration to triple the amount of students, from the poorest families, to study classical music. Moreover, he has committed to establishing four orchestras in the border region of Colombia for poor colombian kids. Lets give credit where credit is due.

  • Extraordinario! GRACIAS!!!!!

  • omg I love the slow down on 1:55

  • @christophenwang me too

  • Maravilloso! Y han tenido que aceptarlo.VEry good!

  • Why politic here? =/

  • SiegfriedHorner you sound music expert that isway you should excuse this comment chain, most of all are just music lovers and venezuelans not at all musicians just talking through pride andpolitical views pro-against the crazy chavez. We respect your opinion from the technical view point

  • A fine young maestro, probably with much success in his future. But to say "The best", is an opinion, and very presumptuous. His youth, talent, and enthusiasm contribute to much popularity, and popularity in any art breeds success. Greatness is earned, or not earned with time..it remains to be seen. "The best", especially in conducting, is not quantifiable or definable. It cannot be measured soley by popularity or commercial success. I like what he does with most music.

  • Indeed Maestro Dudamel is an excellent conductor but he is the result of "El sistema" from Maestro Abreau (who had more than 30 years in music) and no Mr. Chavez, please stop linking Mr. Dudamel with political views, since music is universal and has no language or nationality is an universal patrimony!!

  • You are right, Chavez has nothing to do with Dudamel worldwide success. Some people are mental-ill and say "viva chavez, thanks Chavez", but people like you and me must stop these comments because we all know many Venezuelans who are poor and have gone abroad to study and work to become better people, and now in Venezuela Chavez restricted the dollars for venezuelan tourists and many people can not go abroad for tourism or personal reasons, so it is not "gracias chavez" that of Dudamel.

  • My brother is in the orchestra and he told me never they got enough support from any previous government. I am not saying that they are talented because the revolution but we have to recognize that the international projection they have now would not ever happens without this government support. By the way..see the film Capitalism (Michael Moore)

  • @camaca78 I was in Venezuela during the campaign that got Chavez elected, and I had never heard of SBYO while I was in Venezuela. The fact that Chavez invested enormous sums of money for travel to Europe and the US is a testemony to the intelligence of this government. Before Chavez, the politicians were robbing Venezuela blind. Now, more money is available for music education. Why do you think Chavez got elected in the first place?

  • @camaca78 That may be true, but remember, that none of the previous governments had the enormous revenues the Chavez regime has had. He was not the founder, he is just taking advantage ot the situation because it makes him look "good" outside Venezuela. It is called Propaganda. He will not dare to touch it. Now the program is mature, he is "cosechando" what others planted with great effort. Read history, your countries history and find out the truth. I am glad for your brother. Congratulations.

  • There are many musicians that are prodogies. In fact it is very common; however, a conductor who is a prodogy is very rare indeed. Dudamel is a once in a century prodogy accoring to Claudio Abbado. He is destined to lead the greatest orchestras in the world. VIVA CHAVEZ and all the support that he has given the world. Getting Dudamel is like getting foreign aid from Venezuela.

  • Dudamel and the oschestra project existed before Chavez was elected as president. He always wants to get the credits from all successfull Venezuelans who project a positive side abroad. All governments must support arts, music, literature and all society´s needs such as social security and employment. He now became a communist he vows "patria socialismo o muerte" like all dictators, so you think people are stupid? He took over the Hilton Hotel, what support do you mean? He is anti capitalism!

  • this man, truely inspires i agree, gustavo is by far the best composer. he's so passionate and easy to follow

  • antoniostradivarius tines razon asi se habla

  • I think, generally speaking, the quality of classical music performed in South America is far higher than is appreciated in the Northern Hemisphere. Dadamel is fabulous. the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra is superb. One wishes one could freeze them as they are now and keep them that way for good. The musicianship, the energy the joy in the music are unsurpassed.

  • @mc0558 I do wholly agree with you that one would want to "freeze them forever;" however, the following generation of musicians that are coming from the Venezuelan classical music system, if you can believe it, are even more awsome. Almost every village no matter how remote, even in the Amazon jungle, has a symphony orchestra and choir.

  • @padredemishijos12 That's wonderful! A nation of classical musicians--a miracle!! What a beautiful people!!!!

  • @mc0558 completamente de acuerdo! The SBYO are up there with the finest orchestras in the world and Dudamel is electrifying.

  • I wish people would leave more info if they post wonderful videos like this. I mean, of course we know that this is Beethoven's 5th, that Dudamel is conducting - but which orchestra, when and where???

  • It would be SYBOV (Simon Bolivar Youth orchestra of Venezuela. no idea where though. Caracas maybe?

  • Probably. I have their "Fifth" recording, and might as well be. SBYOV :-)

    the best ?

    the best??????

  • the most Gothic 5th ever !!

  • Dudamel regendo é incrível!!!!

  • dudamel é semplicemente GRANDE cme questa orchestra capito?

Viva Venezuela Carajo!!!

  • And you are who???

Funny. You have no idea what you're talking about.

  • I would've loved to hear this entire performance; sounds like I wouldn't be dissapointed at all. :)

  • young and powerful~!!

    viva venezuela..

  • Si tu eres Venezolano yo soy Pablo Canela.

  • BRAVOOOOO MAESTRO !!! I heard some discoveryes in 5th !!!!! BRAVO and CONGRADULATIONS for YOUR New carrer with LA PHIL.: YOU ARE GRAET MUSICIAN!

WISHING YOU LONG LIVE AND ALL THE BEST !!!

  • Are you serious? It's a nice little melody that came along somewhere between Beethoven's 4th and 6th Symphony.

  • What is the name of the piece he is conducting?Could anyone please tell me?

  • Hi aldasinger! It is the Fifth Symphony by Beethoven. As to the mean comments, gimme a break! These days classical music is almost nonexistent in the school system (except Venezuela)! I'm not surprised that someone might not recognize Beethoven.

  • Thanks for that,Beethoven's fifth Symphony,much appreciated.

  • same

  • Yo Nile, I guarantee 100% that every person in this video knows more about music than you think. The fact that each one of them are involved in an orchestra isn't a matter of lack of ability, but a matter of choice. You think your ears are so good, I'm pretty sure that each orchestra member in the video can identify the 5 or 6 chords you play in every song that you have composed after just listening to them a couple of times. A song is child's play compared to the music that they perform.

  • oh yeah, i bet these sheep talentless musicians could come up with my stuff instead of playing covers all the time and reading a sheet and being led by a clown waving his arms, you are soo right.

  • LOL. You're forgetting one thing. That the composers are what counts, and composers such as Beethoven, Wagner, Tchaikovsky happen to be the biggest musical geniuses who have ever lived. Now heavy metal musicians might be extremely able, but they can't write symphonies to save their lives.

So why come on here and criticise the way people play? Its what people write that counts .

  • they cant write to save their lives? what are you talking about?! some of the best musicians on earth play death metal

you might want to check out necrophagist, morbid angel and nile and then come back to me. Also all of them are highly influenced by classical music.

  • No I said they can't write a symphony. I'm well aware of the fact that heavy metal/death musicians are often brilliant players and there's no way I can even claim to be half as good.

Writing really good death metal takes a lot of talent, but I its not the same as writing something like The Ride of The Valkyries.

  • well they have actually done some classical music too, and its possible to do it, look at vangelis for example, he is capabale of writing awesome classical stuff.

  • I'm not trying to say that if you write or play death metal, you definitely can't write really good orchestral music. I'm sure there are some really talented people out their who could do it if they studied orchestral music enough.

I'm not a fan of vangelis though...

Sry I think my original post was actually way too snobby and condescending. What I should have said, was that really good orchestral music is the hardest music to write.

  • yes i agree, there are multi layers and its complex stuff so i agree. I have the highest respect for classical music even though i mainly death metal. There are some death metal bands that really play extremely complex music though. Check out "nile - execration text" and listen to the instruments :)

  • They can have acceptable musical knowledge., but to make art out of it, well, sorry to disappoint you but I guess that never happens when it comes to death metal....

  • Humm...More art than this? Than the entire baroque, classical and romantic repertoire? I don´t think so. These musical pieces are more complex than the popular music. Btw, I´ve heard the musical groups you mentioned and, yeah, they are talented (I´m not talking about talent) but the 10 or some songs I watched sounded the same, always drums and guitar playing...and not much else...

  • lmao death metal is more art than beethoven. okay then.

  • OMGosh! I just noticed how EVERYBODY moves just like Alejandro. They all *move* together! It's like watching a line of trees move all together in the winds of a violent storm. Un-freakin'-believable!

  • You know, after all you said about your brother's piece, I was disappointed. And those riff videos on your profile? Those would be better if you had a sense of time.

  • obviously you dont know anything about music AT ALL. Just because death metal is way above your head doesnt mean its bad, same with the piano piece which is something that he has written himself instead of playing other peoples work

  • I'm glad you think that. It's actually quite funny.

  • Nile,

Although orchestras may play the same songs over and over, the arrangements are usually very different and the reason the conductor is so critical and praised is because he/she is at liberty to add to or take away from the arrangement -- especially the changes to the tempo. The members of the orchestra can't know how the conductor is going do this without practice. The reason the conductor gets praise is because of his interpretation of the piece.

  • do you mean he can make them change tempo from slow to much faster for example? even if he does that they could predetermine that themselves if they want to do that, i still see no use for that guy if the musicians themselves were competent enough.

  • Yes, that's how it is in music. That's the point of being the conductor. Yes, the can also redetermine that also because it's it written on the sheet notes

  • He's amazing. Absolutely one hundred percent amazing. And to care so much for those children is noble.

  • Unfortunately, and for my displeasure, I have read some negative comments on him or the musicians that appear on this video. For God sake! How much ignorance! Unbelievable! If at least, these were sound and informed comments! But no! They are just a wide display of ignorance and some sort of weird, distorted mix of envy, arrogance, and underlying discrimination... I feel pity for this (or these) coitados...they deserve no less than be called coitados.

  • I just got to know that he's been hired by the Los Angles Philharmonic Orchestra and its president said that he was hired because he has the talent to shape the 21st century music. I think it is implied that she (the president of LA Orchestra) talked about the classic music. Dudamel is talented, passionate and deserves all the merit! Classic music desperately needed someone like him!

  • yeah they desperatly need someone to wave his hands like a madman, thats exactly what we need!

my brother is about 100 times more musical and talented than this guy and actually CREATES classical music on piano.

  • really? have you met dudamel?

About you said earlier, when two guitarists play the same song, they play it 2 very different ways. so lets say two of your favorite guitarists are in concert together, and they dont rehearse and agree on tempo and style it sounds like crap: a conductor uses the entire orchestra to play music. and yes, orchestras do play music that is old, but there are constantly new pieces being composed. dont talk when you dont know anything about what you are criticizing.

  • how many times do i have to say it? they read the notes, cant memorize a song they are playing a cover of AND need a guy waving his arms to be in sync.

None of that should be needed if you are a competent group of musicians

  • 1. You try memorizing a whole symphony with all the other music on the concert dumbass

    2. Have you ever tried getting an entire group of amazing musicians entirely together without a conductor? It's not easy. By the way, that's not the conductor's only job...his job is do interpret the music so the entire orchestra interprets it the same.

You don't deserve to be a musician if you don't even know what an orchestra IS asshole.

  • LAME excuses for being incompetent musicians. They should know the songs without the sheet and the clown waving his arms, end of discussion. I dont see these people are real musicians.

  • what do you play? Piano? I'm just wondering. If you have any friends that play orchestral instruments that you know are real musicians, they'll say the exact same thing.

  • i play guitar, death metal, you can see my videos on my profile. My brother plays piano and is about 1000 times more talented than these "musicians"

  • Piano is also an easier instrument to play in many respects, same with guitar. No worries about intonation, bowings, stuff like that. And besides, death metal is a very different style of music, and it requires very different skills. I don't think you have much of a right to talk about orchestras you know nothing about and I hope you realize that. Until you've played in one, don't talk.

  • Im a musician and can hear with my EARS which is the ultimate judge in music. You know what i feel about these people, i dont see them as musicians, i see them as sheep "musicians" who play other peoples songs without even having the ability to remember them, they need sheet and a guy waving his arms.

check out "treasure moment new demo song" here on youtube and you ll see my brother playing piano, his OWN composition and tell me these guys are better in any way.

  • The reason everyone doesn't compose their own stuff all the time is because they'd RATHER play better music, composed by other people. I know that's not the case for everyone, certainly not you or your almighty brother, but honestly, millions of people like Beethoven's 5th and other classical masterpieces a hell of a lot better than that piece of crap piece your brother wrote. And in case you didn't know, those are the same musicians that have countless hours of music memorized already, man.

  • Spoken like a truly ignorant ass!

  • ...should be obvious who I'm commenting on!

  • I'm guessing you cant even READ music let alone have had a lesson on theory/composition...and apparently I have hit a nerve!

  • So you are now officially the best musician ever without ANY training whatsoever? I HIGHLY doubt that. So you can just know that what you're doing is right? Without any former training? Okay, lets talk about musicianship. The people in this orchestra have all been playing music since a very young age. They obviously have spent hours practicing, instead of spending hours on their mothers couch eating Doritos telling her about what an amazing musician he is.

  • If this whole thing started about conducting, trust me, the conductor is far more than an over -paid metronome. A conductor is a bridge from the composer to the ensemble. A conductor portrays style, articulation, etc. Something you probably have no idea about. You mean music is more than just playing notes? Oh my god, my world just got flipped. There is more to music than you could ever comprehend. Go back to your loud, disgusting screaming and leave the real music to the real musicians

  • see? you disrespect death metal, thats the first sign of ignorance since our music has some of the most skilled musicians in the world and thats a fact! these orchestra guys while very skilled on instruments obviously cant write something of their own to save their lives.

  • I beg to differ. First I would like to see these "most skilled musicians in the world." And secondly, as part of my theory education we wrote compositions. I am a composer, and trust me, not everybody needs to write their own works, the market has already been saturated with centuries of fantastic compositions, where as your style of "music" has only been around for a couple decades.

  • ok, check out the band nile with the song "execration text" now you may hate the vocals but listen to the instruments.

there is also another band called "necrophagist" check them out on myspace, about 100 times more skilled musicians than these guys.

  • Okay, so I listened to both the songs. They sound like every other Death Metal song I've ever heard. Talk about "sheep." I don't see how you say they are more skilled than these people. I can't tell which orchestra, but I know Gustavo's main orchestra is the Simon Bolivar YOUTH orchestra. I have watched many of their videos and they are fantastic. You obviously have an extremely warped sense of reality, so there really is no reason to argue with you anymore.

  • how you can say that nile and necrophagist sound like everybody else and that its not impressive just boggles my mind. Those guys are extremely skilled musicians.

  • how you can say that nile and necrophagist sound like everybody else and that its not impressive just boggles my mind. Those guys are extremely skilled musicians.

  • this version of beeth the 5th has a esclante in the 7th merasure that im not fond of but other than that i love this version

  • okay, just curious, did the conductor create the whole music for the whole orchestra? or do the players create the notes for themselves...??

  • The best since von Karajan! For those of you who don't understand the role of a conductor, listen to 15 versions of Beeth:5th and you will get it. Just like the director of a movie. Doesn't matter if all the actors know their lines, someone has to put it all together.

  • Maybe if you ever ONCE attended a rehearsal - to see the difficult job of interpreting the music and conveying that to the musician and then to have them work together, although each section of the orchestra is playing very different peices,roles...yet, all co-ordinated,mind you...THEN, maybe you might begin ot grasp the vital role of a conductor.

  • save your bad excuses, these are pathetic so called sheep musicians, cant play without sheet or someone directing them, pure incompetence, end of discussion

  • But you know what call them incompetent sheep musicians. Call all the YOUTH symphony, pathetic. Forget that they below the poverty line, and forget that compared to other teenagers that age, they are well ahead of the curb in maturity and mental capacity than, and this is their best shot of get out of Venezuela.

Forget all that. Forget some spends their lives caring about those kids.

    Its easier.

  • Forget someone spends their lives caring about those kids.

  • Fantastic! for those looking to criticize the amazing talents of these young people - remember, Dudamel is what 24? This takes tremendous disciplne and talent to begin to perform like this and to draw this type of performance out of his musicians. As a conductor, he is the pulse- the heart of the music. He is the bridge btw the music and the orchestra....No 100 musicians CANNOT sit and play this. That is simply an ignorant statement.Dudamel is a prodigy!

  • He really brought something different to this music! even from this little clip I could tell, amazing. and guys that are saying the conductor doesnt matter, after being in an orchestra with more than 100 ppl, let me tell you that it would be impossible to get everyone on the same page! there would be too many musical ideas and it would be all over the place. that and the conductor tells you when something sounds wrong and its better to let the conductor worry abou noticing those things.
