I was just saying this to a friend the other day. I'm an Arsenal fan but I usually try to say 'they' instead of 'we' when talking about them. Then we had an argument about patriotism. He's proud to be Irish, I said "Why? You didn't do anything. You just happened to be born there." People seem to derive a self worth from other peoples accomplishments.
@Pazma1: No, they derive a sense of worth from belonging to a society and being part of a cultural group. Sports are one of the easier way of accessing that kind of grouping in todays modern society. Nothing wrong with it, nothing strange about it. Certainly, it is no skin off your nose. Some people just enjoy getting pissed off about things and questioning other people. I don't worry about it though :p.
I never understood the allegiance to sports teams. I mean seriously, they're random collections of people that constantly change and by no means have to be from the place they're playing for, who go into them because they get payed a lot of money. I the other day I asked my mum if her favourite AFL team (Eagles) had every single player swapped with the Swans, who would she barrack for and she says the Eagles. Why? If players can change around like that you're pledging allegiance to an empty idea
Do you remember when we had to walk across broken glass to save that office building from a gang of terrorists? How about the time we were flying to send out a message to the 'verse and tricked the revers into attacking you lot? The best was when we beat up the Shadow Broker.
For me one of the lovely things about this sketch is David's drinking. It's not mentioned in this sketch; it's just there as part of his character. And he's the one you're supposed to connect with :)
Remember how great "we" did at the Battle of Wolf 359. We fought hard and suffered great casualties, but we eventually defeated the Borg, didn't we?

This sketch is just too true. I love the last point about how following changing teams is hilariously stupid.
