Lasik surgery early on was nearly 5000 an eye.. Because it is an elective surgery, companies that provided the technology, doctors, hospitals and outpatient care centers had to find ways to compete which led it to compete price wise.. We now pay 500 an eye.. The problem IS GOVERNMENT.. NOT HEALTHCARE. Obama is an idiot.. He is ruining this country.. Part of the bill was written in away that compels congress to fund part of it on a mandatory basis, but much of it is still not in place. For example, the healthcare exchanges which allow people to pool together to drive down cost are not in effect yet! Republicans want to block that! The demands the bill makes are no different than past Republican-backed proposals!

Since the Health Care Law went into effect, some So Cal hospitals are now being paid 38 cents on the dollar for MediCare/MediCaid patients. They are cutting staff and services right and left trying to try to stay in business. Full-time nurses have been put on a per diem basis with NO benefits; no guarantee of shift or location. Ten hospitals went out of business in CA last year alone. Just how do you plan on providing medical services to everyone when there are fewer employees and hospitals?
Im for the new health care laws and I'm glad it passed. But the only issue I have with it is that low income families are going to have a hard time paying this right? Since having health care is going to be law, its going to put even further restrictions on the budgets of low income families. I know it wont be expensive but even if its only $80 a month, I want to know how my friends family is going to afford it. This does a lot for middle class Americans but idk how the poor will afford it.
For example: There are treatments for cancer that still are unknown to many hospitals around the country because they've been brainwashed that chemotherapy and radiation work. Dichloroacetic Acid, Dimethyl Sulfoxide, Cannabinoids, NAC, Curcumin, Geinstein and Sorafenib all help to treat cancer, through blocking VEGF. But most doctors are unaware of this treatment still, or don't offer it. Why is that? Is this health care reform, to keep potent treatments away from the patients?
Look, Obama. Its not that I'm against health care reform. State ran health care would probably be better than federal, however. It would allow for competition across state lines. I would imagine the primary reason you don't see the kind of system you describe is because probably starting in the 1950's medical advancements were such that the average individual could no longer afford to pay out of pocket for extensive medical treatment. That has nothing to do with government. I am a CIS major. The truth is with any technology over time the cost to produce it goes down. In 1972 a microwave would cost you $1000.00. Today you can get one for $40.00.

Lasik surgery early on was nearly 5000 an eye.. Because it is an elective surgery, companies that provided the technology, doctors, hospitals and outpatient care centers had to find ways to compete which led it to compete price wise.. Part of the bill was written in away that compels congress to fund part of it on a mandatory basis, but much of it is still not in place. For example, the healthcare exchanges which allow people to pool together to drive down cost are not in effect yet! Republicans want to block that! The demands the bill makes are no different than past Republican-backed proposals!

First off, the law isn't even half way implemented yet! At best all it can do is slow the rate of premium increase until the law if fully phased-in in 2014!

Why not place a 20% tax on these cadillac programs that the rich, and retirees have?? Since the Health Care Law went into effect, some So Cal hospitals are now being paid 38 cents on the dollar for MediCare/MediCaid patients. They are cutting staff and services right and left trying to try to stay in business. Full-time nurses have been put on a per diem basis with NO benefits; no guarantee of shift or location. Ten hospitals went out of business in CA last year alone. Just how do you plan on providing medical services to everyone when there are fewer employees and hospitals?

Im for the new health care laws and I'm glad it passed. But the only issue I have with it is that low income families are going to have a hard time paying this right? Since having health care is going to be law, its going to put even further restrictions on the budgets of low income families. I know it wont be expensive but even if its only $80 a month, I want to know how my friends family is going to afford it. This does a lot for middle class Americans but idk how the poor will afford it.

For example: There are treatments for cancer that still are unknown to many hospitals around the country because they've been brainwashed that chemotherapy and radiation work. Dichloroacetic Acid, Dimethyl Sulfoxide, Cannabinoids, NAC, Curcumin, Geinstein and Sorafenib all help to treat cancer, through blocking VEGF. But most doctors are unaware of this treatment still, or don't offer it. Why is that? Is this health care reform, to keep potent treatments away from the patients?

My country Taiwan has the single payer health care system which you guys call it Socialism. Well, I pay $3 US Dollars for doctor visit and my monthly premuim is about $80 US Dollars, I am pretty happy about our Socialist health care system. You guys' health care reform is based on private insurance companies, it is far from Socialism, so I don't know why so many people there called Obama a Socialist.

No subsidizes !!! and certainly not to dump money down the rat hole of welfare. CT Scan is exclusively a Brit invention? Hells bells, at least five countries claim that including Russia and Israel. Socialists use taxes as a means of controlling people, Tax to make people stop smoking, subsidize to make people buy green etc. that creates loop holes. Taxes should be to generate money only. they will invest in drugs that will produce a profit. Right now 80% of the cost of a drug is taxes, regulation, and governmental fees. Yea let us do away with unnecessary Governmental costs.

@redbaroniii First of all, I don' t agree that an individual mandate equates totalitarianism! At some point in everyone's life they will use the healthcare system. By law hospitals are required to treat everyone regardless of their ability to pay if they go to the emergency room! If a person does not pay for that ER visit then taxpayers foot that bill. How is that fair? This was the conservative argument just a couple years ago! Obamacare does away with freeloaders who drive our cost up!

@redbaroniii I can't say I recall such a time but then again I grew up mostly in the 80's and 90's. I would imagine the primary reason you don't see the kind of system you describe is because probably starting in the 1950's medical advancements were such that the average individual could no longer afford to pay out of pocket for extensive medical treatment. Medical equipment is a lot more advanced and moe expensive sense the days of LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE!I It wouldn't work today.

Now you can buy a computer that could run the payroll for both sides of the second world war for under $300.00 (no kidding). 89% of the cost of an MIR machine is the cost of permits, regulations, taxes, and blood thirsty attorneys. In short medicine cost too much because of Government interference.

That has nothing to do with government. I am a CIS major. The truth is with any technology over time the cost to produce it goes down. In 1972 a microwave would cost you $1000.00. Today you can get one for $40.00.

I would just say if you think the auto bell out was a bad idea consider this, the President probably would not have done it under normal circumstances. If you recall at the time he had just taken office we were losing on avg 700k jobs a month, and all credit lending was frozen due to the financial collapse. In normal times they could have gone through a typical Chapter 11 but with no financeer they had to turn to Uncle Sam!

I like this, everyone deserves proper health care. I just wonder why hospitals and doctors get paid so much, I went to the ER one day because I had a really bad sunburn, I mean it was an inch thick of puss, and all the doctor said is that it was a sunburn and prescribed me an ointment. guess how much I was charged... nope wrong it was $500 dollers. it made me not want to get the help I needed the times I needed it and I feel bad that some familys cant get there kids medical attention.

Perhaps those who can't pay and aren't willing to educate themselves on basic health and welfare issues don't deserve care w/o cost. Just a thought. I was raised with the idea that one does not claim benefits one has not earned. I have a reasonable expectation others, many others, feel the same way.

Right now, by law, their must be state hospitals, and those hospitals must provide care whether people can pay for it or not. When they can't, we all pick up the tab with higher premiums anyhow.
Maybe we should change that, but that's the way it's been for a long time.
