    AWESOME

  • dude that is sick. awesome job

  • Holy shit mate that is brilliant there are some really hard figures in this track and u nailed all of them with comfort GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!

  • Nice job man, u obviously disected &studied the hell out this--Well done!

  • Awesome man!

  • great playing man, must have taken a while, I think you managed to perform it in exact detail of the original, best version I've seen and probably will ever see.

  • @naedsukram Thanks! Glad you liked it.

  • Really awesome job! But ? isn't there some hihat tom-foolery going on in the bridge that you didn't play? Some pattern that he plays with his HH foot? Just curious ...again GREAT!

  • @odaydrums Hey, thanks! There isn't any hi-hat foot stuff on the recording. Vinnie may have mixed it up live, but definitely on the studio cut, there isn't any there- just that backing track that plays through most of the tune. I appreciate the use of the phrase 'tom-foolery' though! :)

  • very very very impressive , man!!!!!!

    Congratulations!!!!!

My fav song by Vinnie Colaiuta!

    Greetings from Italy!!!!!

  • very very very nicely done... wow... that is so impressive. this song is extremely hard... one of my favs of vinnie!!!

  • This is very impressive - a beautiful rendition. I love how effortlessly you play it. Great wrist action on hi hat. I love that you open the hat slightly every other hat accent on 2nd verse (as you should). Great 'middle 8' section before last chorus, with all the subtle ride and hat and even tambourine and splashes. Confident and accurate hat / cross stick lick at 4:12, and a brilliant outro section. I LOVE the almost overhead crash / china strike at 4:30 for some reason - so cool and relaxed!

  • @jouxplan As Nicolas Cage would say, "that's some high praise". Thank you!!

  • Very nice. You owned it!

  • Perfect. I've seen this video like 20 times in a row now, and... still.. PERFECT. Really, really, really mature playstyle. Love it! Most refreshing video i've seen on youtube in a good while! Just to put that in perspective, the only vids I wach are drum-related, and this is probably the best playing I've seen in.. Say.. a year or so! KEEP ON GROOVING!

    Cheers from Norway! : )

  • Bravo...note perfect.

  • I notice there's a shaker playing eighth notes throughout this track. That helps keep the groove moving. Very nice job. Drums sound great.

  • nice slipper

  • What time signature is this in?

  • @determined2praise It's in 5. Or 5/4.

  • nicely done, sir! that track has always been a favorite of mine. vinnie's playing helped me to start thinking outside the box where rock and pop are concerned. again, great job!!!

  • Really nice playing - impressed! Where did you get that track? Where to download - or buy?

  • Bravo!

  • clean playing man!

  • irmão aonde você conseguiu esse playalong,me envia por e mail: vitorfirth@hotmail.com

  • flawless !!!

  • Outstanding!

  • Superb, impressive... wow!!!

  • Beautifully done, made it look easy and it ain't !

  • Good work nick: really good work! Your cover is perfect!!! I am a fan of Vinnie Colaiuta and he is my favorite drummer. God bless you! Adriano

  • Nick - Fantastic job. Vinnie is not an easy drummer to follow. I know this because I can't do it. :-) It was a pleasure to watch you play.

  • Dude that is really amazing. And to have it linked so well with the recording. Holy crap! The only place there is really any difference is at the end, but thats the classic formula. Really chill through like 90% of the song, then at the very end let loose in some crazy off beat *and* *eee* hits all over the place. Which you nailed still! Awesome.

  • @appomattox1 Thanks man!

  • AMAZING!!! Perfect!!!!!

  • Sounds great!

  • nice sound dude..nice playing..keep rocking

  • Fantastically slick drumming on this! Bravo!! I have always loved Vinnie's playing with Sting; he is an incredibly sneaky drummer (his writing is actually very challenging, but the average radio listener wouldn't pick up on that - he's a genius). You definitely walked the path of a master on this.

Are those 8", 10", 14" and 16" toms? That's what I play, and am considering moving from coated Ambassadors to Clear Pinstripes...I play live mostly with birch shells. How do you like those heads?

  • Spot on my friend :)

  • what a beutiful setup !

  • that my friend was very impressive... nice work!

  • nice hihat work!

  • Really great how you played it. I am a big fan off Vinnie and i listen the tracks a thousand times. Compliment

  • simply beautiful!

  • Very, very nice playing!

  • hey nick.what sticking did you use at 4:12 can you explain this?

  • @gozluk64 Hey, I was playing right hand doubles around the snare cross sticks that continue the dotted quarter phrasing from the hi hat. The skeleton of the rhythm itself is actually just sixteenth notes like= Lrr#rrLrr#rrLrr# etc. where # = a 16th rest. Sorry if that's confusing but without writing it out, that's kinda the best way I can explain it. Hope that helps! I'll be posting some video breakdowns of this stuff pretty soon.

  • @nmolenda thanks for reply nick.

  • Congratulations!! I can`t tell if Vinnie is playing underneath you. And because I can`t tell it, I`m asking this question: Did you get the drumless song? or did you hit every note perfectly, because I can`t hear anyother drum part but yours.

    Thanks

  • @benedictstefan Thanks! No drumless song. I just worked it into the practice routine on and off for a few months and played it as well as I could. If you listen close, and compare with the original track, you can hear the differences.

  • Awesome! damn that is too difficult for me

  • Great Nick!!!

  • great !

  • Awesome work man! Congratulations!

  • Outstanding - well played...!

  • spot on, your really nailed it dude, you snare sounds amazing, what heads and wires are you using on it?

  • @bentecho Hey thanks! I'm pretty sure the snare there just has your basic Remo Ambassadors on both sides. Always use Remo! :)

  • @nmolenda the only way, listening to it again i think you might have had a bit of help from vinnies snare there!......no bad thing!

  • I've always loved Vinnie's treatment of this piece. What an excellent job of channeling your inner Vinnie..! You've captured the grace and beauty of this performance perfectlty. Spot on..!

  • YES YES YES YES!!! STELLAR JOB MY MAN!! This is what youtube should be about! In addition, you really studied Vinnie's fills and performance of this song. Bravo! Much love and respect!

    Carlito

  • Great playing man, really solid! This truly is one of the greatest drumming performances ever put on record.

  • Excellent job bro!

  • Amazing job and excellent sound!

  • You nailed it, great job!!

  • Very nice.......one question though. why?

  • Really nice man, Vinnie would be proud. You must have studied that for a while to get all the subtle fills down.

  • AMAZING!!!

  • nicely done man....

  • I wanted to know all of them actually. I love the k custom dark ride and I want to get an A custom 13 mastersound hh. I can’t decide on k dark thin crashes or A custom crashes. I know Vinnie uses all or mostly A custom. I really like Carter Beauford’s cymbals. I am torn.

  • @jomcbar1 Oh, well ... it depends on what kind of music you're playing. As a very general rule of thumb, I use bright cymbals (A custom) for loud music, and dark (K's) for acoustic stuff. Some cymbals work well with both though. You just have to experiment and find something that sounds good.

  • @jomcbar1 MEINL

  • What is your cymbol setup? Is that a dark k or regular?

  • @jomcbar1 Hey, thanks for the positive comments! Which cymbal are you asking about?

  • This is one of the most accurate representations of this song by far; which is so much fun to play. Great Job buddy!!

  • bravo!!!! (hands clapping...)

  • WOW!....Absolutely faultless....a great tribute.....KICKASS!

  • Bravo!

  • That is stunning. Thank you.

Prova a guardare il DVD di Sting quando fanno le prove...

Vinnie usa il crash..nella sessione live..

    cmq OTTIMO!

  • Bravo ragazzo bravo!

  • That was freaking great! Did you work out of a transcription book, or did you do it yourself? Either way it was just nails. Really great rimshot sound too.

  • @dsb0013 Thanks man! I got a transcription from another guy on youtube who I thought did the best job, but invariably used my ear mostly.... that was on the recommendation of a certain Berklee bass professor named Jim Stinnett. Reason being that too often if you do all the work of writing it down, then you never end up actually learning to play it, which was the entire point to begin with. I'm more familiar with how that works than I'd like to admit so I took his advice. Seems like it worked! :)

  • @dsb0013

Do you mean cross stick, or side stick sound?

  • Wow,

How hard you had to study Vinnie's track to put in that performance. Don't forget who YOU are and what you have to offer.

  • @KermitDriscoll1 Thanks man! Don't worry, I could practice this track until I die and I would still just sound like "me trying to play Vinnie". :) Bottom line is I had a blast learning it and it definitely made me a better player. Besides, it really only took a couple months (on and off) to get it to this level. I plan on diversifying my channel quite a bit in the future so people know I have plenty to offer. Thanks again for watching!

  • that was grooving. what kit is that?

  • @Rory5421 Pearl Masters Custom MMX with a 66 Ludwig Supra 14x5 snare. Thanks for watching!

  • Truly a spectacular performance. Vinnie couldn't have played it better himself. Speechless

  • @nabdrumming Hahaha, thanks! I don't know though, Vinnie IS the man. :)

  • GREAT JOB BRO! The transcription was spot on... but wow your touch and feel as great as well! Im a fan!

  • Well done, A perfect copy.

  • OMG!!!!! good shit weeeeehhhhh!!!!!

  • wow you did a really good job. It's not easy to play 5/8 that's for sure. I kept 'feeling' 6/8 and then it's always 1 beat short. ha. great work dude.

  • Rad, dude! Every cymbal, every fill, that's impressive!

  • U DID IT NICK !!! THAT'S SIIIICK

  • Awesome job! Much love from the Anteatahs

  • Great job Nick, awesome feel and way to the true essence of Colaiuta's playing!

  • Also, I like how you just kinda Stopped....then you were like....welp, alright then. I guess that's it. Very Nonchalant ...

  • DUDE NICE MAN! My DrumSet teacher at PLU shared this video with me because I had to do this song for a class. Awesome. Nice work man.
