  • This is one of the greatest album cuts ever. Hazel gives it so much power.

  • "United we stand...divided we fall...for every dime they give us...a battle must be fought"!!

  • Happy Labor Day. Rest in Peace, Miss Hazel!

  • I'm 100% Appalachian blooded Dads side West Virginia Mom's side Tennessee. It's funny because the most racism and republican voting is from the west virginia side of the family and the open minded "hillbillies" are all of mama's people!! Democrats, union, love and accept everybody black white gay straight on and on! Appalachia is greatly divided.

  • lets see southeast ky fought csa thats y were still commonwealth with va an if u dont like rag of a flag take ur black forgeigner loving ass north cuz a southern man dont need you around any how

  • @spankyf23 Pennsylvania is a commonwealth . . . .

  • Thank you Miss Hazel

  • The Appalachian ethnicity has been so subjugated by so many outside forces that we often don't know of the socialist/communist/progressive/labor/populist history of our region. Too many think that being a good Appalachian means voting Republican and yelling "Git R Done!" No! To be Appalachian is to live free of both corporation and government! To fight for better lives! And to be radical and possessed of infinite conviction!

  • @NaiveCynic Well said. I often remind even local persons here in NE Tennessee who celebrate the late Confederacy and its rag of a flag that this mountainous area opposed secession, considered the CSA to be a rich man's game, opposed slavery as an affront to "Gawd Awmighty," and supported Mr. Lincoln. You noted the Republicanism of the southern Appalachians, but bear in mind that it originated with the mountaineers' staunch opposition to the CSA and support for the party of Lincoln and Union.

  • @NaiveCynic And though we're no longer Gàidhealtachd - Gaelic Speakers - I'll say Saorsa Anois. Freedom now.

We aren't socialist, we aren't capitalist, we aren't slaves: We're appalachians and proud we are to be.

Essentially, we're all anarchists in the Noam Chomsky sense. We just want to be left the fuck alone.

Truth is, that means never voting republican again. And don't worry about your guns boys, lets help the Democratic Party join the NRA. We do that, we'll get what we want: left alone.

  • @NaiveCynic OH YEAH!

[Make that exclamation point a fist for resistance.]

Thanks so much for this comment. Guess I'm not alone in this world and region after all, never give up, never give in, and never say die.

Always know the individual reigns supreme over all our idea's of how to make a way to better our lives, call it government, society or anything else, the INDIVIDUAL reigns supreme, for we're where it all starts from.

    "Infinite conviction", yeah..

  • @NaiveCynic This is the greatest Youtube comment I have ever seen.

  • I love the shot of the lady holding the sign proclaiming, "No longer a Republican." Perhaps class consciousness is finally taking hold in the United States.

  • RIP

  • Rest in Peace, Hazel! Thank you for your dedication to the working class! This is a great video!!!
