Hello Truecrypt! Thanks so much for all that you post. I guess we could say that this is a more old school perf. Original instrument folks would look down on this, but you know what? This has Heart and depth more than most of those. Today, some of us lose sight of that. Take care, Ken.
One can play Bach on 18th century organ, learn all manuscripts, tune to original "temperament" and still be a poor performer. On other hand Bach can be performed by Swingle Singers and it will be more "authentic" than scientifically correct playing. As long as it touches your soul, it's authentic.
@evolutionist11 I tend to agree about "authentic" instruments. When listening to "authentic" performers such as Andrew Manze, who often sounds so harsh and strident, I think a 20th-century sensibility has been foisted off on us as representing the time of Bach. The Age of Enlightenment, the 18th century, was about harmony and beauty, not an astringent "realism."

Hello Ken;
The question of "authenticity" is a tricky one!
One can play Bach on 18th century organ, learn all manuscripts, tune to original "temperament" and still be a poor performer. On other hand Bach can be performed by Swingle Singers and it will be more "authentic" than scientifically correct playing. As long as it touches your soul, it's authentic.

Why do they use "authentic" instruments?
Because they cannot perform better than the great interpreters of Bach such as Karl Richter, Glenn Gould, Clala Haskil, etc. did.
Those old instruments never sound good.
They should realize that there was no other way in Bach´s time. The so-called "authentic" is a ludicrous invention of Bach- interpretation.

They do it for nostalgia!
