@sophieisahomo Of course this wasn't The Hollies future, no more than 'She's A Rainbow' was The Rolling Stones future or 'I Am The walrus' was John Lennon's future.
I Love the Hollies but as writers of GREAT songs, they were way less prolific than The Beatles and many of their album tracks of this period were a bit pretentious ; this is like Chim-Chimeny from Mary Poppins and though ambitious, their producer Ron Richards who did a great job on their singles, tried to copy the Beatles production but he was no George Martin and he overdid their production in 1967, making it too gimmicky

I still think graham was the weakest link at this point, maybe the acid was robbing his head of brain cells, and I was never a fan of his solo works, best thing for Hollies whence he left.
Does anyone have THe Hollies 1970 Australian TV 60 minute concert aired on ABC TV ??? I have never ven found a boot leg audio file of the set. The played the song Woodstock on that concert and other rarities....
This song always makes me sad because it was shortly after this that my favorite Hollie left the band. While I followed him with CSN and as a solo I always hated that he left when he did when they were making some really good music together.
@pilesovinyl Actually, this song was released on the LP of the same name in October '67... but not in the US. Nash didn't officially depart the group until quite a while later, in December '68. He wanted to leave a couple months earlier, but was obliged to finish a few pre-booked performances, recording sessions, and television appearances. He then hopped a jet bound for California, to join his two new bandmates, formerly of The Byrds and Buffalo Springfield.

`Maybe the worst song the Hollies ever recorded a total RIP OFF of "Lucy in the sky", they were trying to be cool and up to date with the times but this song although a rarity comes off LAME ... also it seems that the other members of the band come off as side men to Graham Nash and thats not the way it was. The Hollies were the best part of the British bands of that era.
yes. they recieved gold records for american sales from Mr. douglas. they also played a kick ass version of On a Carousel and finished with dear eloise. While passing out the gold discs, Nash sugeests they will play Carrie- Anne, but its a mystery to me if they ever did.
A marvellous performance by our dear Graham. I wonder if they tailored the Mike Douglas appearance to appeal to American taste for just such 'mind blowing' songs as this gem? 'Oh, how romantic', too, in the classic, 19th century sense of the word.
It's from their late 1967 album of the same name. Both that album & the previous one from early 1967 'Evolution' feature some of the best pop-psych music ever made ('Evolution' is possibly my favourite album of all time!), check 'em out! : )
Cool video- thanks! This is from the Mike Douglas Show on television. I believe the show was televised from Philadelphia. I believe in 1968 I saw the Hollies sing " Dear Eloise" on the Douglas Show on tv. Ron
seem like somebody was sporting George Harrison's beard during the recording session of Sgt.Pepper!

@skeaneable Actually it was the other way round: Graham had this beard in 1966!

Era, además bello, suavemente bello y amable, y su mirada, quieta en el tiempo, le alejaba, sin él saberlo, de la maldad que mora en el hombre.

Similar in style to later CSN compositions, notably "Lady of the island". It's easy to see where Nash was heading.

sweetly hypnotic - the high mind of a child revisited , sounds like early Floyd but I won't say it in the report - a golden nugget in it's own right.
