@melagads I am with you all the way. This season I am doing a few AMA race rounds and will be in the Alpinestars Supertech R boots, Alpinestars Race Replica Suit and the GP Pro gloves
@ Sportbiketrackgear: I'm a rider from Germany and I'm buying new equipment right now. I'm not sure if i should buy the Supertech R or the S-MX Plus especially because the S-MX Plus got the update (though it won't be available until mid april). Do you think the update of the S-MX Plus is worth the waiting? Greetz from Germany! Ride safe!
@Stumpi87 The 2011 S-MX is all new. End of the day the 2010 and the 2011 S-MX boots are both very good boots. The 2010 model has a long track record which the 2011 model will have to earn over time.
@Sportbiketrackgear Thanks man! I think I'll stick to the Supertech R boots then... I'll let you know how I like them. Can't wait for the new season to begin...Greetz from Germany!
Great review ..... just got some , although its 2010 now and these are being sold in the UK as " the latest " Gotta say though Sidi vertigo are also a cool boot :)
@Sportbiketrackgear Its all down to personal preference but i think the Vortices are the best boots a rider can go with atm. So many adjustments, fitting inside the boot is a guarantee. Also the quality is top notch (like the A-Stars are ofc).
how would these boots compare to the Sidi Vortice's? I want them mainly for street riding and I want to be able to walk around the mall or to hang with my buddies and not have my feet killing me. And have they improved the boot for 2010? Thanks
Well, I just recieved my Supertech r's and I have to say they're sweet! Brian is correct in saying you need to go down a size. I usually wear a 46 but I went down to a 45 and it fits perfect. It doesn't feel like it needs that much breaking in either. If this boot is in your price range or close, or you are just plain considering it, go for it. You won't be dissapointed.
Just ordered the white pair. They should be here next week. They look so sweet! If you get some, make sure you order through these guys! They have the best service and are very knowledgable. Obviously by experience. I have ordered my suit, jacket, and gloves through them. They also have great deals too!
@foithths I'll answer this one, Street Racing boots of course, they are built to protect you at speeds over 100 to 180 mph. Motocross boot would break apart at those speeds
@foithths Well my friend (Έλληνας δεν είσαι?) the MX boots are built having in mind the dirt bikes they are gonna used on, the terrain and also the accompanying equipment.
Hence they are so different. In short, for street riding the Vortices and the like are so much better and usable compared to the MX series.
I purchased the SMX R didn't really like them so i sold them. Called SGT order the SMX Plus, they didn't have my size so they told be it will here next week. I called back and asked them about SuperTech R and by the time I was done I order them. The are really the best boots. VERY comfortable, walking in them, WOW simply awesome. These are the best boots. Thanks god the guy at SGT convinced me to get them.
hey i bought a set of smx5 had to return them tried the smx plus and still tight i am looking for a alpinestar boot. that will work for me i have big calves not overweight just have a hard time with boots. i could only put one notch in on the smx plus. would these offer more adjustment?
One of our staffers, Nick, has big calves and he is in the Supertech R with no problems. He actually has additonal room in the R. He can get the Plus on, they are totally maxxed out so he wears the R. Hope this helps
Your videos are awesome, they are really informative. I am getting my first bike soon and im gonna get gear first before i upgrade my bike cause as you said you cant fix your body as well as a bike. But i love your vids they are the best.
Heey, great video's! How does this boot compare to the Puma 1000? You say this is your favourite, but is it significantly better than the Puma? Or is that just personal preference?
Based on our experience I would suggest going with one size smaller. For me I had a 46 in the previous generation and am now wearing a 45 in the SuperTech R
so if i wear a 9.5 in every type of shoe but if i wanted this boot i would have to go with a 8.5? one size smaller??

@melagads Negative, self emplyoeed and loyal to my customers/riders above all. Alpinestars is our number one brand because they kick ass.

@Sportbiketrackgear i also like alpinestars, i love the logo, the products look great, and if moto gp drivers use it, than it can't be bad.
ps: your videos are great

@Stumpi87 The Supertech R is the best boot I have ridden in to date. They are worth the additional money over the S-MX Plus if you can swing it
Sportbiketrackgear 11 months ago
@Sportbiketrackgear Thanks for the fast response! If I would choose the S-MX Plus...should I wait for the updated boot or are the changes marginal?

@ormand3000 I do not anticipate any major changes with this boot. This is hands down my favorite boot!

what is safer street/racing boots or motocross boots?
foithths 2 years ago
Completely different boots. Hard to compare really
Sportbiketrackgear 2 years ago
@foithths
Road racing boots are ONLY for road bikes, and MX boots areand ONLY for MX bikes.
It's like comparing a Formula 1 with a Rally car.
Appart from that, MX boots are stronger and much heavier than road boots.

Our experience has shown you need to go down 1 size typically with the supertech R. I wear a 46 in the S-MX Plus and a 45 in the Supertech R

that right boot has been to hell and back more than once, good boots

The SMX-R boot would be more of a street boot than the Supertech. The Supertech offers more support for the ankle
Sportbiketrackgear 3 years ago
How does the S-MX R boot compare to this Boot?
RobertShay 3 years ago
Mostly personal preference. I like a boot with no external pieces which can catch on the heel guards.
