There are a few areas which are difficult to fully understand but for the most part it's straight forward. The good news is that we do not have to bear our own guilt before God but can be justified before God by grace through faith in Christ Jesus. Christianity never stopped slavery, and christians still owned slaves, not that they were the only ones. everyone did up until late 1700's- mid 1800's (depending on which continent you lived on.) thou shalt not kill never helped anyone either because the catholic church still exercised authority to kill for over a thousand years. so it DOES leave room for slavery.

what DID end slavery (not directly mind you), and the reason it has only been abolished recently (last 1-2 hundred years) is because of a slowly learned set of morals that came after the secular enlightenment movement of the renaissance.
