Oh boy, Jackson's weirdo fans have made their presence known. Sad thing is, I like Jackson as much as anyone, but his fans really do the guy a disservice.
@kimmois You really show your intelligence in your comment.... I was just quoting Mark Morris because I thought it was interesting he shouted that during the performance. I love Twyla Tharp's choreography and I have tremendous respect for her.
Those who see rape and/or abuse bring to the piece all of their personal bias, as do those who do not. I can see both interpretations. That is the beauty of art. The artist(s) may have intent, but ultimately the fate of the piece lies within each individual, there is no right or wrong. Only everyone's personal experience of it.
It's great, it's professional, it's damned hard to dance...but still...can you see that they somehow don't dance "together"? I mean, she's not waiting for him in many moments, she dances alone, she makes her poses a little earlier before he touches her, which makes the performance a bit artificial and pre-arranged. Anyway, it's a masterpiece.
I don't understand the people who have cried "rape". What an insult. This is a wonderful dance. The critics should hang their heads in shame. What very sad, twisted people they must be.
There's a style of dance, I think from back in the '20s, called "Apache." this is that style dance. Wonderful choreography dancers, still they would benefit from some partner dancing coaching from Brenda Russell and Barry Douglas in blues and swing and the dynamics of lead and follow--and especially so the audience doesn't feel that he's going to rip her arm off.
Mikhail wanted to play James Cagney on film never got that chance. Watch the clip of Cagney & Loretta Young do the "Peabody" in the 1932 movie "Taxi" and you will see that Cagney is chewing gum and making similar expressions - I think in a way this was Mikhails' tribute on the dance floor to Cagney...on a post note, Mikail was one of the pallbearers at Cagneys' funeral in 1986 and the two actually spent some time together tap dancing when Cagney was way up there in years....
@slitgizzard As Linda Blair shouted, "Your mother sucks cocks in hell." Or as Multiple Miggs in the cell next to Hannibal Lecter hissed "I can smell your cunt" Get bent little girl you're a fucking retard.
@kimmois1 So I put my opinion ... who is retarded is you ... Michael Jackson dancing for me and that's better ... ta good for you or do you want me to draw you idiot .... MJ is the best and he does not have to ...
@arturyurisp Your command of English is atrocious and makes no sense, it is indeed you who are deeply retarded and probably should never have been born. Now why not run along, find a video by that child molestor Jackson and wank off with the rest of your pedo buddies. Peace out, cretin. xxxx
@kimmois1 kkkk you do not know anything if you were intellectually and poses ... you do not judge people ... you're a clueless and I do not speak English you idiot ... you know nothing of the career of Michael ... who was born here and most in my generation knows much michael and that nothing of the Baryshnikov know what it ... You child is obsolete and ... and do not respond more ... ignore you and who should not have you is born ... AND ALL .... Arrogance Will Be Punished
@arturyurisp What on earth is your problem? Jackson is a dead freak who had some serious issues and couldn't dance for shit. There I responded to you asswipe, now come and punish my arrogance you sick fuck. Peace out xxxx
@kimmois1 His arrogant useless you know nothing of his career ... of 5 years until 50 Michael sang and danced ... "This Is It" is the proof ... who is that Baryshnikov to get to his feet ..... you do not know anything at all ...
@arturyurisp You are absolutely retarded. Now fuck off and watch child pornography while you listen to your Michael Jackson CDs you fucking useless waste of space. Peace xxxx
@kimmois1 You're just an ignorant ... you say that I'm retarded .. you then .. nor to serve you this ... who is more famous and known? you know it's Michael ... So to end the conversation it is estimated that Michael has sold more than 1 billion copies of her albums. Ended the conversation with you losing ... you ignorant who does not respect the opinions of others.
@bohogirl10 With you right now you can talk ... no there is not ignorant like this ... you talk right and well, unfortunately not this guy there, it is clear that Baryshnikov dance very well, it's a totally different style of Michael, but I really enjoy Michael dance very well too, they are just different styles, i argue with this idiot because he did not know how to respect people.
Kudos for Kudo. Someone had to resort to that cliche. She was recently named ballet master at Washington Ballet, which premiered this dance in 1983. Interesting article recently dwelling on her dress. ongo.com/v/1923064/-1/B18896F436AC35A3/fashion-designers-and-dancers-a-perfect-fit
I agree w/michaelakel: Elaine Kudo is a great partner for Baryshnikov in this. Other dancers are nowadays doing these parts, pretty well, but not with quite the same complexities.
Why can't everyone get that this is a particular CHARACTER that is being acted out by the dancer relaying the ideas as seen thru the eyes of Twyla Tharp , the choreographer, as she interprets the song! If you have problems w/ this particular song - look at the rest of her Sinatra Suites that she choreographed where there is more romance and sweetness. It's art ... folks. A choreographer's take of a song interpreted by dancers.
@echojenic Give me a break - I have danced with all these people, Mark, Misha and Elaine . This has nothing to do with rape. Funny coming from a gay man (Mark) who doesn't understand an art form expressing the turmoils of a relationship. It's a fucking great dance and anyone who doesn't agree needs to get over themselves and get a life.... in my opinion!
@echojenic so lets recall that ones upon a time Brussels yelled "Mark Morris go home" - no wonder. He is very interesting choreographer but I really do not understand why he heve such proplem with another choreographers and likes to criticize some of them.
When I first saw this type of work I was amazed. Now it just looks contrived and jerky to me. I know that it had to be done, and it was done brilliantly, but I am now convinced its place in dance is not as large as I originally thought.
Inquiry to the woman: I do understand you like/love real men that are strong and determined and this guy certainly is. Yet, this guy looks also quite snobby, kind of arrogant (emphasized by his chewing gum) and during the routine almost uninvolved. What do you girls/women like so much about that particular guy?
@MrWinter99 cuz he's Baryshnikov!!! The most handsome perfect and talented ballet dancer ever! Any other guy and I would have slapped him in the face. But I'll gladly take it if it's Baryshnikov.
@MrWinter99 The fact that he is so charismatic, talented, artistic, attractive, etc. - and things that I might even not like in someone else, I would like in someone I already like for so many other reasons... many things that can potentially be flaws in a person can be attractive in someone that you like for so many other reasons that are way more important, and almost make it feel like he is allowed to do some things you wouldn't tolerate in someone else... That's how I am with people I love!
@getsuyoobi if you look at Come Fly Away, Tharp's Broadway show, which is completely Sinatra, there is a piece to this song that incorporates many of the same elements, and his expression seems to be an essential part of the character of this dance...but definitely a bit abusive!
as @michaelakel said, it's amazingly beautiful how "she's getting thrown to the ground, flipped upside down, tossed in the air, doing splits and making it all look easy in a little black dress and heels without a hair out of place". But the one thing that seduces me the most is when Misha is chewing gum from 0:12 to 0:26 (mainly 0:23 - 0:26). PLEASE BE MINE!
As fantastic as Misha is in this - "The Lady" as she is called here is Elaine Kudo and she is brilliant as well. Don't forget - She's the one getting thrown to the ground, flipped upside down, tossed in the air, doing splits and making it all look easy in a little black dress and heels without a hair out of place!!!!

this video meake me hate sinatra, varishnikov, harp, michael jackson , OMG!, I already hate them!, or is taht Ijust don not like 'em?
lets say even more, the performance is lack of technique, and sence for the interpretation, si more eviromental rather than expresive, eeewww!!
