@drunkenp0t Catalytic Converter is a device used to convert toxic exhaust emissions from an internal combustion engine into non-toxic substances. A Pre-Cat Or Catalyic Converter is the same thing.

@drunkenp0t The QR25DE tends to run a fairly rich air/fuel mixture so it is very likely that not all fuel is being combusted in the cylinders and instead combusted in the precat, which can cause it to break apart into small pieces. These substrate pieces get sucked back into the cylinder and damage the cylinder walls, ultimately causing increased oil consumption. It certainly doesn’t help that the precat sits so close to the engine. Get A Header Off E-Bay Or Something ASAP !

I have an 05 the pre cat hasnt gone in it "YET" but everything else is falling apart. Edmunds has complaints of the 05-07 pre cat problems. I will never buy a jap car again

I just bought a 2004 altima nissa, i tell u what, this car is good inside and the body is fansionized properly. Atleast we have seen cars with so much small body and they are 2004 but look like 1999, thank God for nissan bringing up new body style from 2002 instead of waitin till 2008 like the rest. I am just waitin for my car inspection and i'm good to go by next week and register it.

good video. I own a 2003 Altima, had motor replaced after cat failed. Car has 74k now, motor has 13k, car runs like brand new! Love it, and I love this car. My 2.5 S has alloy rims and steering wheel mounted audio controls though, so i guess its a mid-grade model. still awesome car! thanks for this video!

Awesome job cleaning up the car Kyle. The only thing I do not like about the car is the Honda-like alarm clock beeper when you put the key in the ignition with the door open.

Too bad that's the shitty 2.5S model, the pre-catalyst is going to go and blow out the engine. My 3.5SE is way better than this one; the speedometer goes to 160! The pre cat won't fail either.

this year didn't have the crappy engine issues as the 2002-2003 (which were horrible) they made improvements this year, btw, obviously the 3.5 is better in every way, but not everyone can afford one lol

@saabkyle04 05-06 had crappy engines as well, they burned lots of oil. 07 and up has no known issues. I would avoid this generation if at all possible unless you have the 3.5 V6 (like Kyle said they're expensive). 02-06 Sentra Spec-Vs had the same engine problems whereas the 1.8 is bulletproof.

It was the 02-04 that duffered most of the issues.

@Stevenhiggles Not it doesn't affect all years ! Two people on my street has a altima 2.5 one has a 06 and has 100k miles and another has an 04 with 145k miles . Never had pre-cat problems !

That would be because in 05 Nissan did a mid-cycle refresh of the vehicle...gave it a slightly different front and rear and did an interior refresh of the same body style
