That's the real picture of USA. After 7 years living there, and coming back to my Coutry, Brazil, I Know better then enyone that the right place is our first place. That's it.
A penetrative insight into the dehumanizing aspect of living in the great urban centers of the US...a film about lack of social justice, desperation, manipulation and consolation through friendship and hope of a better tomorrow. Great acting on the part Of Dustin Hoffman.
@arizona1105 The movie gives a lot of information of his past life, but it's meant to be a little vague, since everything he recalls is from his memory and sometimes his nostalgic fantasies.
mygawd--NYC when it had ballz,a distant memory now--and everybody smoking,living and breathing,and messing with the out-of-towners--times square hustlers,shills and zombies--good film and yes.hoffman shouldda gotten an oscar-
Last words: "Thanks Joe". At least he passed knowing that someone loved him. I really hope he heard Joe call him Ricco not Ratso that last time... Thanks so much for the upload. This was a beautiful film about true love in the face of all that's twisted in this lonely world.
Ahhh, from the days when film-making was still an art form, and not just a money-maker. Wonderful performances from both, as their characters unfold. Dustin Hoffman is a brilliant actor.
Errors in geography: After Joe Buck's encounter with Towny, he and Ratso board the bus to Miami. But the bus then enters the south tube of the Lincoln Tunnel, which only carries eastbound traffic into New York.
Wow, Joe Buck's expression is so sad. It was heartbreaking. I haven't seen this film in years and had forgotten how sad the ending was, especially Joe's facial expressions of loss and vulnerability, especially when he's holding the Rico's lifeless body. It's all in the facial expressions, and Voight nailed it. :(
Thanks for the complete Movie...Im 44 y/o and cant tell you how many times Ive enjoyed this movie..Every time is like the 1st. Also has an excellent Sound Track...Thanks again..Eric in Atlanta
This movie is so good. I saw it somehow because my mother ran into it one day on the movie channels and discovered that it really is a good film! The ending is very sad; i just caught a tear

No, I think this is the theatrical version but I've only seen this one other time and I remember the rape as I saw it here. This was a good movie but I don't get how it is supposed to be that sad; I mean I saw this ending coming a mile away the first time I saw it and; well did Voight kill that guy he stole from?
Wow! What a GREAT movie!

why was this movie rated X?
they didnt show anything.
it should be rated pg13
antiTyph0n06 2 years ago 3
It was rated X because of the time it came out. Half of the R movies today would've been rated X in the 60's and 70's
subterranean47 2 years ago 2
@antiTyph0n06
It was rated X because it dealt with homosexuality and had a few boobs shown here and there. homosexuality was very taboo back then
Zujfsn 2 years ago
@antiTyph0n06 They didn't have PG13 back in the 60s...
