I'm not very up to date but I think it would have cost more and/or the scenery would not look legit. I know that that was the problem with the movie Cold Mountain.

It was filmed in Alberta, Canada. Like most westerns are these days. It's beautiful my friends. You should visit!

This ain't Missouri scenery. Only really bad part of the film. They should have filmed on location.

@johnvernon2001 I was actually surprised at how close it looked at times because they probably filmed it in Canada or something for the tax breaks and all. Must have been in the foothills of the Rockies or something.

I live in the Ozarks. And the place where the house which was used to depict the shootout between Dick Little and Wood Hite (hahaha, Dick and Wood) looked A LOT like Mizzou dude! The movie looked legit to me, but I could still tell it wasn't filmed here at times.
