The Obama family is supposed to be in the top tax bracket of 37%, but somehow Obama only paid 26% in taxes.
The Obama even got a tax refund of $12,334.
So why aren't the media, union thugs and other left wing pissants yelling for Obama to pay his "fair share?" It's probably the same reason why they don't seem interested that a major left wing corporation like GE made $14 billion last year and paid ZERO in taxes (after being bailed out.)
Blaming the wars doesn't work. George Bush decreases the budget between 2002 and 2006 and even had a surplus in 2007 at the height of the surge in Iraq. Obama has also increased defense spending at a higher rate than Bush ever did. if you look at spending for the past decade, the rate at which spending increased doubled during this administration even though Revenues took a sharp decline in 2009 causing us to have massive deficits for the past few years.
@SuperNache By decrease teh budget, i mean the rate at which it grows, the budget will aways increase do to growth, but by being responsible, we can make sure that the rate at which revenues grow is faster than spending. that's how you create surpluses.
@TheVideo5094 Bush isn't our president. We can all forget about Bush. This is OBAMA'S ECONOMY, and Obama is the president. IT is HIS RESPONSIBILITY, not BUSH'S! That's so trite!
obama refuses to admit that RAISING TAXES WILL BRING IN LESS MONEY, there is NO CORRELATION between higher tax rates and higher revenue throughout the last 70 years. obama wants to attempt to shift the tax burden on the top tax brackets, but history the rich pay a higher % of the tax burden when the rates are lower. this is just a fact, raising the tax rate wil cause the top 1% to pay less of the overall tax burden. fiscally being responsible is bringing in more revenue, not raising taxes.
@stryderzer0 he actually did, raised capital gains from 15% to 20% and dividends from 15% to 35%. and yes, allowing the bush tax cuts to expire IS raising taxes. doing nothing is still an intention. obama complains about a 500 billion dollar deficit? bush's deficits fell consistently during his term, and the big 08 was a result of TARP which was paid back to obama in 2009, which obama then pissed away instead of paying off debt. that's why he had a 1.4 and 1.2 trillion dollar deficits.
Wanna better economy Obama? Then get your fucking troops out of Iraq, 7-8 years of pointless fighting that doesn't and still haven't made a difference. Time to put on your big boy pants and start putting OUR money towards OUR needs.
Oh, I think I missed the part where he says his tax hikes hurt tthe economy. Wait where is it? Let look through it again. Nope nothing. You republicans are so obsessed with Obama raising taxes, although he didn't raise a cent into the tax rate and extended the bush tax cuts.
I'm voting Democrat because I enjoy giving my hard earned money to some lazy drug addict with 5 kids! I'm voting Democrat because I want to wait in line for my kids doctors visits! I'm voting Democrat because I'm a lawyer, government worker, union worker, welfare recipient, immigrant or minority. My vote is for what the government will give me for free! Most of all I want less money in my pocket!
you want to increase demand? want to grow the economy and create jobs? RAISE WAGES FOR THE LOWER/MIDDLE CLASS ITS THE ONLY WAY OUT. screw bailouts screw tax breaks and kicker stimulus, those are all short term non-solutions. trickle down economics was a complete failure for the last 30 years, gee maybe we should try something else....
Only 8% of the cabinet members in Obama's admin comes from the pirvate sector. He has alot of his admin loving Mao. It is no accident the economy is crashing. It is a socialistic agenda they have. Obamacare, cap and trade and now the EPA acts like it wants to dictate to congress. He is a one term president.
His tax plan is inefficient and bad for the economy. It is concentrated costs for small individuals and widespread benefits for many people. He is failing to account that tax structures as such would destroy consumer spending for rich in order to build economic revenue for businesses to get out of the recession. I believe it will increase the debt since nearly 90% of the population would consume revenue from 10% of the rich people and will initiate spending programs and provide tax cuts.
1 Tim 6:17:"Give orders to those who are rich in the present system of things not to be high-minded, and to rest their hope, not on uncertain riches, but on God, who furnishes us all things richly for our enjoyment; 18 to work at good, to be rich in fine works, to be liberal, ready to share"
Does republican Bible's not have this passage in it? Why do republicans claim to be Christian, but not want to help the poor, widowed, elderly, orphan, etc, etc? Those are the basics in the Christian faith!
Matthew 21:12 And Jesus entered...threw out all those selling and buying in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling....“It is written, ‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but YOU are making it a cave of robbers.
John 6:15..Jesus, knowing they were about to come and seize him to make him king, withdrew again into the mountain all alone.
Jesus had NO PART OF THE WORLD then, and would not now! Rep or Dem will not save, only JESUS!
I nominate Pres Obama as the worse President since the invention of the automobile. I heard the 2 Presidents before Lincoln were really bad. And what makes Obama the worse----he is trying to change the infrastructure of America to something out of Maxist playbook. If all of his policies were actually passed then the America we have known would not exist.
but the infrastructure that we've had and used to build this country, has damaged it greatly under poor leadership. He's using other means to repair that damage, and most likely we'd adapt back to the infrastructure we had. This is no different than other acts our nation has passed by previous president proposals. When America was in its time of collapse and self-destruction (like the great depression), many of the plans that were used to help were "semi-socialist".
As much as America doesn't like the idea of socialism, pieces of it have been used to bring back the United States back onto its feet. Again, this is no different than previous acts by people like FDR.
Hello Fhemeto, FDR's policies made the depression longer. Even FDR's treasury sec admited that nothing they were doing was working. WW2 ended the depression in America. The 'infrastructure' is basically hard working people being productive minus the restraints and mandates of Govt. Socialism needs alot of money to operate and the more dollars you take from the people (tax) the less freedoms they have. Obama is clueless in fixing the economy. Job summit after 11mnths in office proves that.
It took the Messiah less than two months to double the deficit. Two months. From one trillion to two trillion. He had no experience going into office, but he's certainly proven his genius to sucker people
I come from a mid-upper middle class background and this pisses me off because we're going to be taxed more under his administration. It''s like the more you make the less you earn.
An economy should compensate between Free market and a Command economy. Taxing the big earners more helps to stabilize the wealth of the country. look at it this way, the more you earn, the poorer someone else will be... but with the dynamic taxes it reduces the extremes between the rich and poor classes.
40% of the population pays no federal income tax at all. The same 40% have no problem at all voting for politicians who tax and spend like the end of the world is at hand. They are actually voting to take additional money out of my wallet as they don't have a horse in the race and will not see any negative financial ramifications as a result of their vote. To the contrary, they will benefit from my unintended generosity. Is this fair? Should the tax code(s) be changed? Hell yes, and soon!
"Accelerate tax cuts by a second stimulus package, get more money in to the pockets of ordinary americans." We all saw who got the money... lies lies lies
I am on topic. You labeled 35 million Americans "deadbeats." I strongly disagreed, and offered a reason why. What I would like to know is, why after being faced with these statistics, you still claim folks unable to get insurance are "deadbeats."
Re: stats: You can find many statistics about health care in the US at the National Coalition for Health Care site. I can't put in the URL, as this site won't allow links, apparently, but you can google it easily.
jeffbatt2000- sorry, read your question wrong. The tax cut Obama out into place is as follows: a typical family will start taking home at least $65 more every month. This will affect 95 percent of working families.
A $400 credit for individuals is to be doled out through the rest of the year. Couples are slated to get up to $800. Most workers are to see about a $13 per week increase in their take-home pay. In 2010, the credit would be about $7.70 a week, if it is spread over the entire year.
Jeffbatt2000- I don't think any taxes have been cut, and cap and trade will cost around $7 per month. Instead of spending 3-4 trillion on an illegal war, we will rebuild our infrastructure, and get some sort of health care.
TROOOPA: No,no and no, but I'd be happy to pay more, especially for things like cigarettes that cost the nation billions every year. Americans consume wastefully. We have to starting living within the capacity of the earth.
CRAP-n-trade will cost way more than that. Please understand the depth of this sham...and for what? MORE taxes that, trust me, will NOT go for the intended use.
1. He never says anything like his tax hikes will hurt the economy in this excerpt.
2. The tax reinstatement on earners over $250 large is exactly the same amount paid during the the Clinton years, when we had a booming economy and no deficit.
3. Posters making less that $250 large are currently enjoying a tax cut.
All of which makes me wonder exactly what the gripe is.
First of all, explain to me what taxes you think have been cut.
Also, explain to me how the cap and trade bill just sent through Congress that will raise everyone's enegery bills by at least $1000 a year isn't a tax hike.
And while you're at it, explain to me how he's going to add $2 TRILLION more to the debt after already agreeing to add $9 TRILLION over the next 8 years and he's some how NOT going to raise taxes...
What would YOU call "people" that refuse to improve their skillsets in order to raise the bar, cry to the govt and collect the funds stolen from taxpayers? This also includes the illegal aliens that have leeched from the system.
Seriously...yes. There are anywhere from seven to twenty million illegal ALIIENS, along with the 3 million at least on welfare. Let's also count those that get their utilities subsidized as well as those that get foodstamps...Quit staggering, don't you agree or do you like forking over your cash to them?
Let's stay on topic. Illegal immigration is another issue, so let's remove them from the tally. 11 million illegals minus 46 million with no coverage = 35 million folks. Nearly 40% of these make over $50k a year. These are not deadbeats. There is a serous problem. Do you have a serious solution, or are you just interested in blaming someone? Check out the National Coalition on Health Care's site. It's bi-partisan. You'll find facts there useful for constructing an informed opinion.
He can raise taxes all he wants, I won't pay the increase, I'll just write things off, like my mexican day laborers, and say my limos are gifts, sorry america, I suggest you too find a way out of your own tax obligations.
You too could be a leech, Let mine and the other White house appointees situation serve as a shining example of what you too could accomplish, The gentlemen who's signature will be on all federal tax return checks, claims he too doesn't understand the rules, Now if the head of the IRS cannot file without mistakes, how could anyone expect you to. Remember this phrase it's something Jack Kennedy taught me "I misinterpreted the rules" it never fails, hope I helped you, and remember vote Democrat!!!
Obama throws the same old tired BS about a billion dollars a day in Iraq, but totally ignores the cost of Afghanistan, and carefully sidesteps the fact that while he promised to veto all pork projects, that his stimulus package has nearly 9000 earmarks in it. So once again Obama proves himself to be a hypocrite and a liar.
Obama is a fiscal idiot, he talks about the economy and tosses out BS about Iraq being the cause of the deficit. What would the deficit do if we were attacked again? Is Iraq the cause of the bank failures? Or was it mismanagement on the part fo bankers? Did Iraq make the housing problems or was it people buying what they couldn't afford then defaulting? Iraq is NOT the cause of every fiscal failure in the US. The cause is gov't screwing with business, an area in which they are clueless.
In a news item the AP dropped in to day, O-BOMB-A says that we will get tax cuts in paychecks by 1 April, unfortunately he does not asy that we will get an actual reduction in tax owed. I have received several reductions in witholding over the past 20 years, but magically end up owing more and more come tax time, even though my actual income has remained flat. This year I owed so much that I put in an optional extra witholding on my pay above the regualar witholding.
But Obamas tax reduction simply reversed my increase, so I guess I need to start another savings account simply to offset the tax cuts that will result in a higher tax owed in April 2010
since 9/11 we have spent millions of dollars a day but we have not been attacked at home, isn't that what every american wanted? Would you rather be rich and nuked, or breathing and functioning well? I mean the U.S did not have proper information to enter Iraq but it had proper reasons. 1) Possible Nuclear Weapons 2) Saddams terrible attacks against HIS PEOPLE 3) Threat to the US, and the World 4) Al Qeada Affiliations
OR.... you could take that ~$800,000,000,000 we spend every year on our military and buy an m16, 1,000 rounds and body armor for every single american adult.
thats all with ONE YEAR'S military spending.
you could effectively eliminate income tax and still have enough revenue to fund all other federal spending if we did this.
but i guess that would provide hundred billion dollar profits for the military industrial complex, so it'll never happen.
If we had a flat tax at 10% the Federal Budget of 2008 would have been $11,458,500,000,000. If Congress and the President wanted more TOUGH. They would have had to spend within that dollar amount. There would be no tax deductions, just 10% of what every person earns or 10% of the GNP. Also no tax returns to file and no way for Obama to BS us about non existend tax cuts.
umm no he doesnt admit tax hikes will hurt the economy.
plus obama cannot be a socialist as he has set no plans to nationalise private sector organisations... this distribution of wealth is NOT socialism but demonstrates fiscal responsibility as it will help a consumption driven economy like USA to increase spending and cusion the recession prospects.
I've read a lot of the comments below and all of them make good points and bad ones too. Before i'm acussed of being a racist i'll let you know that i'm afrocuban,i became a US citizen 8 yrs. ago and served in the marines for 10 and this is scary because Obama'ideals are socialist.and please black people stop making excuses for our failures,Obama has given us a good example that if you work hard you achieve success.stop buying $200 shoes with wellfare money, pick up a book and educate your selves
the first persons tax returns under obama i wanna see are Oprahs......then well know if she walks the walk.....hey they pestered cindy mccain for hers...she made 4.2 million last year and paid 1.1 million in tax...hardly seems like shes exempt from tax.
For the upper class, what is happening for simplicity sake, take someone making 600K dollars a year. Currently they pay $225K/yr taxes. Obama's plan-another $98K in taxes. FICA is 7.4% of income until 104,000 is hit where it is capped. Obama's plan to change it to 7.4% until $600K is hit, so another $35K approximately will be tacked onto the $98K so the entire tax for the individual is : 225K+98K+35K which equals 358K total dollars, if I have not made any mistakes.
its not fair....but dont tell that to the robin hoods that just got elected....if they really wanted to do some good, theyd offer 5000 to each single mom in poverty to have her tubes tied...after one kid....at least that way, we could start stemming the tide of welfare recipients and change this "i want what you have but i dont want to work for it" mentality....liberals have totally brainwashed an entire clase into believing they need to be constantly helped..
obama will do the same thing clinton did when he promised tax cuts for the middle class in his first campaign for president. a few weeks after Obama ( God forbid!!!) gets inaugarated, he'll say " i tried SO hard to give you a tax break, but I just can't do it." since he became Senator, he proposed tax INCREASES on everyone making over $42.8 Thousand...Now you think he'll cut taxes on people making under $250K? wanna buy a bridge?
Not one study that I know of proves that raising taxes on the wealthiest in a recession somehow hurts the economy. Sure, the Reaganites may have a case for supply-side econ., but they have no proof for the inverse. This is a vibrant economy, people. A mere tax increase on the wealthiest of a few percent won't make much difference. And 250 grand is NOT small business; that's a medium-sized business that is doing fine.
hey whoo689, recheck the history on the great depression. I am not 100% sure, but from what I understand when FDR came into office after the stock crash he raised the taxes and historians say that caused and prolonged the depression. WW2 got us out of the depression.
Studies from FDR, NIXON, CARTER, BUSH SENIOR - all show that increasing taxes during a recession hurts the economy.
A $250 business is not a mid size but a very small business. Maybe a couple of stores. And when people lose money they pass on the losses ya idiot!! What are you in highscool?!!
People get fired, salaries cut, no raises. Getting a couple hundred bucks back does NOT compensate what taxes will do to people!
i agree, id rather they concentrate on getting down the debt than add on more with another stupid stimulus....do you know how many people didnt even cash the checks?
Whatever tax cut Obama is promising will be offset when he allows the Bush tax cuts to expire. To pay for his 'reforming' of America is going to cost some money so him raising the corp tax is something he cant resist even though companies are regrouping right now. Basically Obama is a fish out of water when it comes to the economy. If you want a peak into an Obama economic outcome just look at fannymai and freddy mac. His group accorn was a culprit in that mess.
Umm he's basically taking money from successful people. What a bastard.Thats not fair. With the economy today, he even said "it's fragile".Your tax increases won't work and will hurt the economy even more. With regards to the tax cuts on middle classes well who pays 90 percent of the income tax? Let me think, the succesful top 10 percent do. That's why they are getting bigger tax returns. So stop complaining your not getting any tax returns, and why don't you contribute a little.
i love the obama fans talking about how great his plan to tax corporations is
do you people really think a corporation is gonna sit around and let that happen? No they'll either sell out to a foreign company or move overseas where the tax rate is 10% instead of 40%.
Corporations arent gonna cut their bottom line they'll move, outsource jobs , or be bought out (think budweiser)
and let me say this 10% of a 20 billion dollar company's revenue from taxes is a lot better than 40% of nothing...
obamas tax plan is not gunna work. corporate taxes will hit us with everything we purchase. the gov is gunna get their money, obama just hides it under a blanket. the only way to restore money in the economy is low budget spending and thats 100% guareented to work
When the Bush tax cuts kicked in the IRS took in more money, unemployment went down and businesses did grow. This Prez then had to deal with 911,and fight an enemy no other nation dared to take on. So much for 'war for oil' when the oil prices jump to insane levels and then to deal with an economic time bomb of Fani and Fredi that was set off by the democrats pushing that house fiasco. And now the govt to run health care? What?
yeah because the economy has done so well under George Bush... not. Going from a surplus to a ridiculous debt is pathetic. And what is more pathetic is that people think that doing the same thing will get different results.
i really wish 9-11 had happened under clinton instead.....we'd be EXACTLY where we are now economically....its like 9-11 never happened in some peoples minds.....the war ate up the surplus, would you have preferred we just let the terrorists flood our country?
The reason it did not happen to clinton is because he was not as incompetent as Bush. THE WHOLE WORLD knew it was not Iraq where the Terrorists we were looking for were. Lies convinced americans to support the war in Iraq ( "weapons of mass destruction"). No one wanted to be associated with Bush.If 9 11 was a good excuse they would have used it a long time ago. But it was incompetence that allowed the disaster to happen. And INcompetence that allowed our country/economy to go down the drain.
clinton was offered bin ladens head on a plate and declined...could have avoided the whole thing....and let me see who was the one on tv showing the mobile chemical labs that could be used to make poisonous bombs? i think it was none other than colin powell, the new "democrat" who so wholeheartedly endorsed the war has flipped his position....i bet by spring we get hit again....putin is already causing noise and so is that iranian bastard.....were doomed
I do not know if you know this but same thing happened to bush but at least clinton did not say hey lets go to iraq too as combination attack so that we can control terrority that has oil and also go get the man who destroyed our twin towers. and just because someone endorses a different candidate of a different party label does not mean they change their political positions. you have beef with colin powell, you must have beef with a lot of republicans then. Because he was far from the only one
my beef with colin powell is that he was one of the biggest pushers for invading iraq and now suddenly the democrats are swooning over his endorsement...if bush goes down for iraq, powell should be surgically attached to him....
now suppose that evidence wasnt faulty...and remember at the time they were giving out cipro for the anthrax attacks.....bush had to deal with alot early on, and people now have amnesia about what this country was like then....
he didnt say anything like that until he was retired.....in 2002, he was still saying iraq had weapons and that the usa was committed to regime change.....hes trying to rewrite his positions and cozy up to obama....hes a louse.
If memory serves, he wanted to continue talks with the UN, but Bush and Congress said enough of this crap, we're going in. I would believe that he would say that Iraq still had those weapons because it was never verified that they were destroyed. The world had bad information on that, but that is because Iraq was not in the business of total and full cooperation.
i remember powell showing those videos of what he said were mobile chemical weapons labs....20/20 hindsight is a great thing.... had we been attacked chemically or with nuclear weapons after not invading iraq i think alot of people would be singing a different tune....
One of the main reasons companies are outsourcing is because of the much cheaper wages abroad. However, as it is now the corporate taxes on the USA are among the highest globally. Higher corp taxes will not help outsourcing. Small buinesses usually dont outsource but they will be affected by higher corp taxes. Govt needs to be more bizz friendly and stop calling them the evil rich. Also there is not a qualified method to measure rich vs poor growing gap because of the influx of immigration.
I was amazed with the changes Ireland had over the past 25 years. When I lived in the UK as an Ex-pat, Ireland was primarily agrarian, with little indeustry. Young adults were trying to leave, beacause there was ltd future. They lowered corp taxes and viola, great growth = great wealth=great future
you are right socialism has not worked. thats why we arent going to convert to a socialistic economy. a step back from deregulated corporations and tax cuts for the rich is not socialism.
ok obama plans to drop the taxes for 95 percent of people but what hes going to do with buisnesses like big corps like ford, GM and others hes going to raise taxes for them big corps.. than the big corps are going to hop countrys and bam the americans lost a whole bunch of jobs becuase exxon mobile or whatever has moved from tax increase.. so thats the problem with obamas plan to screw up the econemy even more
The wealth is being hoarded. The gap between the rich and the poor is worse than before the depression... see the foreshadowing. Obama is not taking incentives out of the economy when "spreading the wealth." It is stabilizing it. The amount of billionaires in this country is ridiculous. Saying that some of that money should be more spread out is NO WHERE NEAR socialism. That socialism scare is what has lead us to the shit hole we are in. More of the same will only breed more of a shit hole.
If the wealth was spread out, why should I or anyone else strive to be successful if I won't be making more to show for it than people who
who put in half as much effort? Why should I give my well-earned money that I worked hard for to people who aren't dedicated. Those billionaires worked hard for their money. i dont have respect for heirs and heiresses, however. Thats completely different. If you want money, get a job, live at your means, and work hard. Then you will rise through the ranks
so what youre saying is that if you made say a billion dollars and died, i should be pissed off that your survivors are wealthy? heirs and heiresses are the children of the wealthy , who on one hand you admire and on the other despise? help me out here
To clear that up, I'm saying that i don't respect those heirs and heiresses who have the money, yet have never worked a day in their life. They may have a right to it, but that doesn't mean they deserve it. The ones who work, or continue the company, etc., however, do, in my opinion. Its just more honorable that way.
sounds like a case of "rich envy" to me.... what i love is how people say "they never worked a day in their life" if you dont even know them, how can you say that? that would be like winning the lottery and quitting and then hearing someone say "he doesnt work, he doesnt deserve it" rich envy, all the way..
hey wally, historically socialism has never worked and it never will. It plays into a negative aspect of human nature which does not reward a person for striving to push themselves to be or give the best. People would settle to an average level of mediocrity. In the USA wealth is not being hoarded. Most people who become really wealthy are hard working people who actually spread the wealth as employers and by reinvesting, spending, and providng loans. Those who can -do, those who cant - whine.
no matter how you slice it, its taking money from people who "earned" it and giving it to people who didnt......if someone is gonna take my "earned" money, id want a say on how its spent.... it should go into education rather than "Stimulus" checks where people buy their kids 200 dollar sneakers and other non essential stuff.
i see people all the time in philadelphia wearing nike shoes that i know cost between 150-200 dollars.....and they all seem to come from areas where people dont have a pot to pis in and a window to throw it out....
Obama never seen a tax hike he did not like. To Obama, America is one big ATM machine. The Obama economic plan; the more you make , the more he take. Just like the movie "I drink your milkshake, I drink it up!!".
ur a fucking dumbass ....how stupid can u be ... u fuking conservatives dont no shit ... he is taxing people who make more then 250g a year and giving tax cuts 95% of the us ....which make less then 250g... way better tax plan then mccain >>>>Go Obama
I know you think this will be good for you but in the long run it wont. This whole "spread the wealth" idea is nothing but socialism, all it does is punish the successful which eventually leads to a stagnation in the desire to become successful. Why would you ever want to put in all the hard work necessary to become successful if you knew you wouldn't be able to enjoy it because most of your profits were going to go to people who didn't do even do half the work you did?
Do you think the founders of companies like McD's, Pennys, Sears, GM, Ford, Walmart, Microsoft, Apple, etc. would have done what they did (or even exist for that matter) if they knew they weren't going to gain any benefit from it? Ya, that's right, all of these companies who create all of these luxuries that YOU use to make up your American lifestyle would probably not even exist under a socialist controlled government.
but then the companys who do make over 250,000 per year them companys are going to go overseas and give the americans who did work there, nobody to work for becuase there company is gone overseas than thats gonna screw up the workforce..
Hey rabio, the big O will allow the Bush tax cuts to expire and thus 100% of people who pay taxes will get a tax increase. Raising the corporate tax will always stunt buisness growth and that is why in a survey 80% of CEOs,you know those guys who hand out jobs,do not support Obama. I would call Obama 'Robinhood', but that would be an insult to Robinhood. He stole from the govt and gave to the poor. Obama will steal from the hardworking and give it to the clueless.
ok it a good point ...but u got to understand that all these companies now are outsourcing to other countries... u have to look in a narrow perspective ....more global .... im sure u will agree with me when i say that in a sense the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer ...
obama is not taking it to a level of communism or even socialism ...if mccain wins we are going in the same direction as always ...
High taxes=/=fewer jobs. Look at the Clinton era. Highest taxes in our history AND created jobs. Higher taxes on the rich is the only way we're going to raise revenue. That and cutting out Bush's ridiculous bills. I am disappointed that Obama backed off his plan here, but at least he's honest about what his plan is.
And to make it better, eliminate the dividends tax. In the end it would likely be a revenue increaser too. That tax would be lost, but when dividend taxes are in place companies tend to pay lower dividends anyway.
But if it were removed it would encourage investment, thus resulting in better profits, which would in turn yield more revenues in the form of corporate income tax and the reduced capital gains. And that's not even touching the increased purchasing power of the investment holders.
the cliton era is a joke the reason jobs are leaving is because thay have huge taxes on them dumb shit and so thay take there shit to china and outher places and all the niggers and spicks living off of wellfair because thay can we need to cut that shit get a job
Clinton raised taxes on Taxpayers, but cut the capital gains taxes this made the economy stronger.
Bush cut the taxes on Taxpayers, and cut the captial gains tax again. The Bush admin took in 20% more tax revenue than the Clinton administration. The economy grew by 19%. Bush should have used this greater revenue to balance the budget, but your have got 911, and the wars. This were a lot of consv. repubs part ways with Bush.
To Ectogamut: One thing's for sure, from your comment it's easy to see you don't have a fucking clue how the economy works. Since I own a large business and am someone who you would consider to be the target of all these "wonderful" tax hikes, let me let you in on a little secret: If my taxes go up, I simply increase the price of my products to make up the differnce OR I lay off employees with remaining staff making up the differnce. I come out the same, your tax hikes hurt everyone else.
Republicans don't know how the economy works. Need evidence? Go buy gas.
I actually think Obama should raise taxes on the Billionaires even higher, but at least going back up to 35% (like the during the Clinton years; $230 billion surplus, bitches) is a step in the right direction.
Obama will be the next President and 95% of you Bush wackos will be better off for it with better healthcare and higher-paying jobs, whether you like it or not!
Instead of listening to typical liberal crap why don't you look at other countries that adopt the Obama ideology and look at the results. Repubs sadly adopt the same policies and its ruining this country. GOVERNMENT IS THE PROBLEM NOT THE SOLUTION. Historical record proves that.
you are more optimistic than i am about government.
"The greatest advances of civilization, whether in architecture or painting, in science and literature, in industry or agriculture, have never come from centralized government."~Milton Friedman
"I am not a friend to a very energetic government. It is always oppressive."-Thomas Jefferson
you quoted milton! it is true. centralized government is partly the problem. the states need to take care of themselves. and friedman was a genuis. we need more people like you!
He wants to raise taxes by 600 billion over 10 years (60 billion per year for the libs out there), to close a $500 billion annual budget deficit. What's more scary, that he says it or that people accept it unquestioned?
If you make more than 250,000 per year do you have to worry if your child has an accident and you can't afford to take them to the hospital. I'm sure that people that make that much money a year can afford to be taxed. While the people who had their jobs shipped overseas can't afford to be taxed more. If a person's job has been shipped off I'm sure a new job would help them more than a lump sum check. How are we going to pay China back for the war? We have to tax the rich more.
Why is it so hard to see the tyranny in our current tax code? redistribution of wealth is theft by vote. the progressive income tax is the most unfair and UN-American policy we have. you want cheap healthcare? tell government to stay the hell out and create competition b/w insurance companies. basic economics.
yes, lets tax the rich, starting with oprah and all of hollywood, closely followed by the useless congress, senate, and most government workers whose jobs were created but unnecessary....and lets give it to the schools and hospitals....not to your average joe, who will just spend it on shit they dont need anyway.
we're all slaves to society. gotta love that "progressive" income tax. hooray for liberals..i mean progressives... i mean communists.. i mean socialists...i mean democratic socialists...oh nevermind they cant figure what to call themselves without bringin up bad history.

It seems like you are going to vote for McCain.
If so, can you tell us what he will do to shift our economy?

SuperNache 7 months ago
@SuperNache By decrease teh budget, i mean the rate at which it grows, the budget will aways increase do to growth, but by being responsible, we can make sure that the rate at which revenues grow is faster than spending. that's how you create surpluses.
SuperNache 7 months ago
@SuperNache Bush didnt have a surplus in 2007 Nor did he decrease the budget
Total revenue $2.57 trillion
Total expenditures $2.73 trillion

obama refuses to admit that RAISING TAXES WILL BRING IN LESS MONEY, there is NO CORRELATION between higher tax rates and higher revenue throughout the last 70 years. obama wants to attempt to shift the tax burden on the top tax brackets, but history the rich pay a higher % of the tax burden when the rates are lower. this is just a fact, raising the tax rate wil cause the top 1% to pay less of the overall tax burden. fiscally being responsible is bringing in more revenue, not raising taxes.
Welsh77 7 months ago
@stryderzer0 he actually did, raised capital gains from 15% to 20% and dividends from 15% to 35%. and yes, allowing the bush tax cuts to expire IS raising taxes. doing nothing is still an intention. obama complains about a 500 billion dollar deficit? bush's deficits fell consistently during his term, and the big 08 was a result of TARP which was paid back to obama in 2009, which obama then pissed away instead of paying off debt. that's why he had a 1.4 and 1.2 trillion dollar deficits.

I nominate Pres Obama as the worse President since the invention of the automobile. I heard the 2 Presidents before Lincoln were really bad. And what makes Obama the worse----he is trying to change the infrastructure of America to something out of Maxist playbook. If all of his policies were actually passed then the America we have known would not exist.
joskemom 2 years ago 3
but the infrastructure that we've had and used to build this country, has damaged it greatly under poor leadership. He's using other means to repair that damage, and most likely we'd adapt back to the infrastructure we had. This is no different than other acts our nation has passed by previous president proposals. When America was in its time of collapse and self-destruction (like the great depression), many of the plans that were used to help were "semi-socialist".
Fhemeto 2 years ago
As much as America doesn't like the idea of socialism, pieces of it have been used to bring back the United States back onto its feet. Again, this is no different than previous acts by people like FDR.
Fhemeto 2 years ago
Hello Fhemeto, FDR's policies made the depression longer. Even FDR's treasury sec admited that nothing they were doing was working. WW2 ended the depression in America. The 'infrastructure' is basically hard working people being productive minus the restraints and mandates of Govt. Socialism needs alot of money to operate and the more dollars you take from the people (tax) the less freedoms they have. Obama is clueless in fixing the economy. Job summit after 11mnths in office proves that.
joskemom 2 years ago 2

Taste of communism.
An economy should compensate between Free market and a Command economy. Taxing the big earners more helps to stabilize the wealth of the country. look at it this way, the more you earn, the poorer someone else will be... but with the dynamic taxes it reduces the extremes between the rich and poor classes.

MrIllustrator 2 years ago
jeffbatt2000- sorry, read your question wrong.
MrIllustrator 2 years ago
Jeffbatt2000- I don't think any taxes have been cut, and cap and trade will cost around $7 per month. Instead of spending 3-4 trillion on an illegal war, we will rebuild our infrastructure, and get some sort of health care.
TROOOPA: No,no and no, but I'd be happy to pay more, especially for things like cigarettes that cost the nation billions every year. Americans consume wastefully. We have to starting living within the capacity of the earth.
MrIllustrator 2 years ago
CRAP-n-trade will cost way more than that. Please understand the depth of this sham...and for what? MORE taxes that, trust me, will NOT go for the intended use.
HammockTimeNow 2 years ago
Do you have any evidence for you claims?
MrIllustrator 2 years ago
Posters agin Obama should note three things:
MrIllustrator 2 years ago
First of all, explain to me what taxes you think have been cut.
Also, explain to me how the cap and trade bill just sent through Congress that will raise everyone's enegery bills by at least $1000 a year isn't a tax hike.
And while you're at it, explain to me how he's going to add $2 TRILLION more to the debt after already agreeing to add $9 TRILLION over the next 8 years and he's some how NOT going to raise taxes...
jeffbatt2000 2 years ago
My taxes have increased an additional 4% and taht's before all the health for deadbeats hits the fan

So we have 46 million deadbeats in America?
MrIllustrator 2 years ago
What would YOU call "people" that refuse to improve their skillsets in order to raise the bar, cry to the govt and collect the funds stolen from taxpayers? This also includes the illegal aliens that have leeched from the system.
HammockTimeNow 2 years ago
Do you honestly believe there are 46 MILLION such folks? Seriously?
MrIllustrator 2 years ago
Seriously...yes. There are anywhere from seven to twenty million illegal ALIIENS, along with the 3 million at least on welfare. Let's also count those that get their utilities subsidized as well as those that get foodstamps...Quit staggering, don't you agree or do you like forking over your cash to them?
HammockTimeNow 2 years ago
Let's stay on topic. Illegal immigration is another issue, so let's remove them from the tally. 11 million illegals minus 46 million with no coverage = 35 million folks. Nearly 40% of these make over $50k a year. These are not deadbeats. There is a serous problem. Do you have a serious solution, or are you just interested in blaming someone? Check out the National Coalition on Health Care's site. It's bi-partisan. You'll find facts there useful for constructing an informed opinion.
MrIllustrator 2 years ago
Let's stay on topic...you asked about deadbeats...I answered.
Where exactly do you get your stats?

Obama is a fiscal idiot, he talks about the economy and tosses out BS about Iraq being the cause of the deficit. What would the deficit do if we were attacked again? Is Iraq the cause of the bank failures? Or was it mismanagement on the part fo bankers? Did Iraq make the housing problems or was it people buying what they couldn't afford then defaulting? Iraq is NOT the cause of every fiscal failure in the US. The cause is gov't screwing with business, an area in which they are clueless.
Geographer76 2 years ago
In a news item the AP dropped in to day, O-BOMB-A says that we will get tax cuts in paychecks by 1 April, unfortunately he does not asy that we will get an actual reduction in tax owed. I have received several reductions in witholding over the past 20 years, but magically end up owing more and more come tax time, even though my actual income has remained flat. This year I owed so much that I put in an optional extra witholding on my pay above the regualar witholding.

But Obamas tax reduction simply reversed my increase, so I guess I need to start another savings account simply to offset the tax cuts that will result in a higher tax owed in April 2010

but i guess that would provide hundred billion dollar profits for the military industrial complex, so it'll never happen.

And 250 grand is NOT small business; that's a medium-sized business that is doing fine.
whoo689 3 years ago
hey whoo689, recheck the history on the great depression. I am not 100% sure, but from what I understand when FDR came into office after the stock crash he raised the taxes and historians say that caused and prolonged the depression. WW2 got us out of the depression.
joskemom 3 years ago
Actually you're a fucking moron.

What?
joskemom 3 years ago 2
yeah because the economy has done so well under George Bush... not. Going from a surplus to a ridiculous debt is pathetic. And what is more pathetic is that people think that doing the same thing will get different results.
wallyyou 3 years ago
And you want to know who has been spending our money? The Democrats in the in Washington. Don't believe me? Look it up.
KaitoHakka 3 years ago 3
i really wish 9-11 had happened under clinton instead.....we'd be EXACTLY where we are now economically....its like 9-11 never happened in some peoples minds.....the war ate up the surplus, would you have preferred we just let the terrorists flood our country?
chrisrei10 3 years ago
The reason it did not happen to clinton is because he was not as incompetent as Bush. THE WHOLE WORLD knew it was not Iraq where the Terrorists we were looking for were. Lies convinced americans to support the war in Iraq ( "weapons of mass destruction"). No one wanted to be associated with Bush.If 9 11 was a good excuse they would have used it a long time ago. But it was incompetence that allowed the disaster to happen. And INcompetence that allowed our country/economy to go down the drain.
wallyyou 3 years ago
clinton was offered bin ladens head on a plate and declined...could have avoided the whole thing....and let me see who was the one on tv showing the mobile chemical labs that could be used to make poisonous bombs? i think it was none other than colin powell, the new "democrat" who so wholeheartedly endorsed the war has flipped his position....i bet by spring we get hit again....putin is already causing noise and so is that iranian bastard.....were doomed
chrisrei10 3 years ago
I do not know if you know this but same thing happened to bush but at least clinton did not say hey lets go to iraq too as combination attack so that we can control terrority that has oil and also go get the man who destroyed our twin towers. and just because someone endorses a different candidate of a different party label does not mean they change their political positions. you have beef with colin powell, you must have beef with a lot of republicans then. Because he was far from the only one
wallyyou 3 years ago
my beef with colin powell is that he was one of the biggest pushers for invading iraq and now suddenly the democrats are swooning over his endorsement...if bush goes down for iraq, powell should be surgically attached to him....
chrisrei10 3 years ago
true dat but the leader gets the brunt of the force and people hardly think of the pawns by which bush used. Colin powell etc
wallyyou 3 years ago
id hardly say bush used powell or rice, both of whom pushed for the war as well.....
chrisrei10 3 years ago
faulty evidence does not help either...
wallyyou 3 years ago
now suppose that evidence wasnt faulty...and remember at the time they were giving out cipro for the anthrax attacks.....bush had to deal with alot early on, and people now have amnesia about what this country was like then....
chrisrei10 3 years ago
Actually, I remember Powell as being the one guy that was against going into Iraq when we did.
jboritzki 3 years ago
he didnt say anything like that until he was retired.....in 2002, he was still saying iraq had weapons and that the usa was committed to regime change.....hes trying to rewrite his positions and cozy up to obama....hes a louse.
chrisrei10 3 years ago 2
If memory serves, he wanted to continue talks with the UN, but Bush and Congress said enough of this crap, we're going in. I would believe that he would say that Iraq still had those weapons because it was never verified that they were destroyed. The world had bad information on that, but that is because Iraq was not in the business of total and full cooperation.
jboritzki 3 years ago
i remember powell showing those videos of what he said were mobile chemical weapons labs....20/20 hindsight is a great thing.... had we been attacked chemically or with nuclear weapons after not invading iraq i think alot of people would be singing a different tune....

Also there is not a qualified method to measure rich vs poor growing gap because of the influx of immigration.
joskemom 3 years ago
I was amazed with the changes Ireland had over the past 25 years. When I lived in the UK as an Ex-pat, Ireland was primarily agrarian, with little indeustry. Young adults were trying to leave, beacause there was ltd future. They lowered corp taxes and viola, great growth = great wealth=great future
hammocktime2002 3 years ago
you are right socialism has not worked. thats why we arent going to convert to a socialistic economy. a step back from deregulated corporations and tax cuts for the rich is not socialism.
wallyyou 3 years ago
ok obama plans to drop the taxes for 95 percent of people but what hes going to do with buisnesses like big corps like ford, GM and others hes going to raise taxes for them big corps.. than the big corps are going to hop countrys and bam the americans lost a whole bunch of jobs becuase exxon mobile or whatever has moved from tax increase.. so thats the problem with obamas plan to screw up the econemy even more
chevyblows2001 3 years ago
The wealth is being hoarded. The gap between the rich and the poor is worse than before the depression... see the foreshadowing. Obama is not taking incentives out of the economy when "spreading the wealth." It is stabilizing it. The amount of billionaires in this country is ridiculous. Saying that some of that money should be more spread out is NO WHERE NEAR socialism. That socialism scare is what has lead us to the shit hole we are in. More of the same will only breed more of a shit hole.
wallyyou 3 years ago
If the wealth was spread out, why should I or anyone else strive to be successful if I won't be making more to show for it than people who
who put in half as much effort? Why should I give my well-earned money that I worked hard for to people who aren't dedicated. Those billionaires worked hard for their money. i dont have respect for heirs and heiresses, however. Thats completely different. If you want money, get a job, live at your means, and work hard. Then you will rise through the ranks

EXCELLENT post! So true...when will others wise up??? You work, you earn. Quit playning victims
hammocktime2002 3 years ago 3
so what youre saying is that if you made say a billion dollars and died, i should be pissed off that your survivors are wealthy? heirs and heiresses are the children of the wealthy , who on one hand you admire and on the other despise? help me out here
chrisrei10 3 years ago
To clear that up, I'm saying that i don't respect those heirs and heiresses who have the money, yet have never worked a day in their life. They may have a right to it, but that doesn't mean they deserve it. The ones who work, or continue the company, etc., however, do, in my opinion. Its just more honorable that way.
ufayad 3 years ago
sounds like a case of "rich envy" to me.... what i love is how people say "they never worked a day in their life" if you dont even know them, how can you say that? that would be like winning the lottery and quitting and then hearing someone say "he doesnt work, he doesnt deserve it" rich envy, all the way..
chrisrei10 3 years ago
OK...so parents are NOT permitted to leave any money to their heirs??? What biz is it of yours to tell them what to do with the money they earned???
HammockTimeNow 3 years ago
hey wally, historically socialism has never worked and it never will. Those who can -do, those who cant - whine.
joskemom 3 years ago
well said....!!!!!

no matter how you slice it, its taking money from people who "earned" it and giving it to people who didnt......if someone is gonna take my "earned" money, id want a say on how its spent.... it should go into education rather than "Stimulus" checks where people buy their kids 200 dollar sneakers and other non essential stuff.

Obama never seen a tax hike he did not like. To Obama, America is one big ATM machine. The Obama economic plan; the more you make , the more he take. Just like the movie "I drink your milkshake, I drink it up!!".
joskemom 3 years ago
ur a fucking dumbass ....how stupid can u be ... u fuking conservatives dont no shit ... he is taxing people who make more then 250g a year and giving tax cuts 95% of the us ....which make less then 250g... way better tax plan then mccain >>>>Go Obama
rabiozo914 3 years ago
I know you think this will be good for you but in the long run it wont. This whole "spread the wealth" idea is nothing but socialism, all it does is punish the successful which eventually leads to a stagnation in the desire to become successful. Why would you ever want to put in all the hard work necessary to become successful if you knew you wouldn't be able to enjoy it because most of your profits were going to go to people who didn't do even do half the work you did?
menacekop 3 years ago
Do you think the founders of companies like McD's, Pennys, Sears, GM, Ford, Walmart, Microsoft, Apple, etc. would have done what they did (or even exist for that matter) if they knew they weren't going to gain any benefit from it? Ya, that's right, all of these companies who create all of these luxuries that YOU use to make up your American lifestyle would probably not even exist under a socialist controlled government.
menacekop 3 years ago
but then the companys who do make over 250,000 per year them companys are going to go overseas and give the americans who did work there, nobody to work for becuase there company is gone overseas than thats gonna screw up the workforce..
GO McCain
chevyblows2001 3 years ago
Hey rabio, the big O will allow the Bush tax cuts to expire and thus 100% of people who pay taxes will get a tax increase. Raising the corporate tax will always stunt buisness growth and that is why in a survey 80% of CEOs,you know those guys who hand out jobs,do not support Obama. I would call Obama 'Robinhood', but that would be an insult to Robinhood. He stole from the govt and gave to the poor. Obama will steal from the hardworking and give it to the clueless.
joskemom 3 years ago
ok it a good point ...but u got to understand that all these companies now are outsourcing to other countries... u have to look in a narrow perspective ....more global .... im sure u will agree with me when i say that in a sense the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer ...
obama is not taking it to a level of communism or even socialism ...if mccain wins we are going in the same direction as always ...

History shows that after the crash of '29, taxes were raised and that tax increase caused the depression to last much longer...
It is just not smart to raise taxes on individuals during a recession.
Read the economic history following the crash of 1929.

UsedStarlight 3 years ago
You really think so? How about cutting the capital gains tax? Historically every cut in the capital gains tax has yielded higher government revenues.
QuestingForAtlantis 3 years ago
And to make it better, eliminate the dividends tax. In the end it would likely be a revenue increaser too. That tax would be lost, but when dividend taxes are in place companies tend to pay lower dividends anyway.
But if it were removed it would encourage investment, thus resulting in better profits, which would in turn yield more revenues in the form of corporate income tax and the reduced capital gains. And that's not even touching the increased purchasing power of the investment holders.
QuestingForAtlantis 3 years ago
the cliton era is a joke the reason jobs are leaving is because thay have huge taxes on them dumb shit and so thay take there shit to china and outher places and all the niggers and spicks living off of wellfair because thay can we need to cut that shit get a job
chieffootball08 3 years ago
Wrong, Wrong Wrong,
Clinton raised taxes on Taxpayers, but cut the capital gains taxes this made the economy stronger.
23rdFlyingTiger 3 years ago

Obama will be the next President and 95% of you Bush wackos will be better off for it with better healthcare and higher-paying jobs, whether you like it or not!
ectogamut 3 years ago
Instead of listening to typical liberal crap why don't you look at other countries that adopt the Obama ideology and look at the results. Repubs sadly adopt the same policies and its ruining this country. GOVERNMENT IS THE PROBLEM NOT THE SOLUTION. Historical record proves that.

you are more optimistic than i am about government.
"The greatest advances of civilization, whether in architecture or painting, in science and literature, in industry or agriculture, have never come from centralized government."~Milton Friedman
"I am not a friend to a very energetic government. It is always oppressive."-Thomas Jefferson

you quoted milton! it is true. centralized government is partly the problem. the states need to take care of themselves. and friedman was a genuis. we need more people like you!
mackeylicious818 3 years ago
What a moron.
He wants to raise taxes by 600 billion over 10 years (60 billion per year for the libs out there), to close a $500 billion annual budget deficit. What's more scary, that he says it or that people accept it unquestioned?
tayberly 3 years ago
If you make more than 250,000 per year do you have to worry if your child has an accident and you can't afford to take them to the hospital. I'm sure that people that make that much money a year can afford to be taxed. While the people who had their jobs shipped overseas can't afford to be taxed more. If a person's job has been shipped off I'm sure a new job would help them more than a lump sum check. How are we going to pay China back for the war? We have to tax the rich more.
AmyLiz36 3 years ago
Why is it so hard to see the tyranny in our current tax code? redistribution of wealth is theft by vote. the progressive income tax is the most unfair and UN-American policy we have. you want cheap healthcare? tell government to stay the hell out and create competition b/w insurance companies. basic economics.
t0nt01982 3 years ago
yes, lets tax the rich, starting with oprah and all of hollywood, closely followed by the useless congress, senate, and most government workers whose jobs were created but unnecessary....and lets give it to the schools and hospitals....not to your average joe, who will just spend it on shit they dont need anyway.
chrisrei10 3 years ago

Hey Danny,
Do you like the way our economy is doing right now?
Who if anyone is to blame for that in your opinion?
My take on Obama is that he wants to cut taxes on the middle class and lower and raise them on people who make over $250,000 a year and on corporations that pollute our world.
It seems like you are going to vote for McCain.
If so, can you tell us what he will do to shift our economy?
Do you know his plan for our energy future?
