this would be nice with all mesquite bark and leaves. stay away for cedar, it makes a good bed for a dog(rids em of fleas), but is mildly posionous.

there are a lot of books out there...many specific to a geographical location. many of us who are into this have worked for many years to find these books...many are not on amazong, but small independent publications that you find along the way. for starters get wildman steve brill and sam thayer's publications....but those are eastern/woodland plants. better yet...write one!

Personally I would rather use a Dutch Oven - Why mess with digging hole? covering it up? then digging out again?

You can pretty much make it as big as you want, cook any sized animal or any amount of roots or whatever. Plus you can cook pretty much anywhere without lugging around an oven. Also, you don't need to worry about cleaning an oven afterwords.
