  • I would of compressed harder. And that delay was a little to apparent for my taste. Almost sounding like phasing. Idk, not my genre so yeah maybe that sounds "good" for it.

  • 1) how do you shelf the 8k...is it a boost or cut & how many db's?

    2) At what freq did you start to roll off the low end?

    Thanks

  • why r u hiding your autotune...

  • Hey!, it sounds great!

but is it possible to record an acoustic guitar with this mic?

  • Great mix....even better song, though!

  • vocals still way to loud good mix...but turn the volume down

  • you forgot to mention that autotune plugin. :P

  • good video man but do a video on the mastering chain please

  • what are you use for recording vocal, software?

  • what kind of compression would you use for a sort of Keith Urbany kind of track?

  • BET THIS GUY HAS A LOT OF GROUPIES LOL. GREAT WORK MAN.

  • good before and afters just what i was lookin for.

  • What ABout For Rap Vocals?? i just donwloaded waves plugins but am not be able to use them so much, what kinda effects do u suggest me to mix my rap vocal??

    please response :D

  • Can someone tell me the exact plug ins he used? I can't believe I spent £300 on something I don't even know how to use, he made it sound really simple.

  • i love the mix vocals bright and every thing is coming thru

  • guitar bleed in the vocals @ 3:09 -- i doubt he was using that usb mic.

  • @MrBrennanWalls could have been picking up his headphones...

  • @VFXgeneralist That's exactly what it was...

  • can you make a vid about mastering with waves?? =D

  • Dude...I wanna tell you THANKS A MIL for putting me onto this mic! AS SOON AS I watched your video, I went on ebay and low & behold I found one for DIRT CHEAP! New in the box! Apparently the owner didn't know it's worth but nonetheless when I heard you EQ your vocals with Waves, I IMMEDIATELY had to have this mic! I own a AT4050 and it doesn't give me the automatic DEPTH I need for vocals. I watched other YT vids and this mic did WONDERS!!! THANKS AGAIN DUDE!!! THUMBS ^^^

  • sounds great

  • love the song!!!

  • hi there just a question , does the use of wave plugin basically do the eq gate and other settings so that you do not hav eto appley eq or gate using dicferent plugins (or the standard ones that cubase or logic give)?

  • @kickflipindy78 Everything he did can be done with Logic plugins but if you can afford, mixing with Waves plugins will give a pro sound to your tracks. Waves EQs, compressors and above all reverbs are to me much better than plugins coming with your DAW. NPP bundle is not very expansive and you have great stuff out there.

  • stay heerrrre, don't fa-a-a-a-de, away !!!

  • If you guys are wondering what exact plugings he used in the first half he used: Waves DeEsser (sss remover/limiter), Waves REQ 6 Bands (Equalizer), Waves RComp (Compressor)

Then : Waves TruVerb, SuperTap 2

  • is there a video explaining how to use the delay the same way you used it for this song?

  • where can I get this song???

  • @hugio55

It's called 'Fal' by 'Shachar Gilad'

  • @danielwaves just bought on iTunes. First song I have bought being at music school in a whiiiile...

    Thanks man!

    hugio55

  • @hugio55

It's called 'Fall' by Shachar Gilad

  • Man great song, makes me question my Contemporary writing and producing degree... haha

    is that song anywhere?

  • Sounds decent even on here, good job.

  • Delay works wonders :)

  • You are definitelly one of the best tutors on the net ;D I am currently savin money to get on of the bundles!

    Cheers!

  • Superb tutorial. It is a very beautiful song Shachar!

  • are these plug-ins originally in logic ?

  • Daniel, this process also applies to other musical stiles like rock ? The order of the plugins change the final result ? Thanks

  • gracias por el tutorial thanks for the tutorial from spain

  • hi there, i would like to know what would be the best approach to mixing backing vocals (e.g do you send to bus and work it from there or do you deal with them individually) If you do have any advice please carry on. Thanks for all the videos very helpful. Thanks.

  • just spent around 13 stacks on a waves bundle. im loving ssl 4000. still learning everything else

  • Not bad. The vocals sounded over done. I think you'll get a better sound if you duplicate the vocal track, lower the level and add the effects to the duplicate. that way you still maintain a nice crisp and clear vocal with the original un-effected track, with the effect underneath and not so obvious. i think if you do it that way it will sound much better.

  • @22cwheels22 thats what send fx are for.

  • Stay here don´t fade away .

  • NICE MIXSIN ! HEY CAN U TELL ME THE NAMES OF ALL THE PLUGINGS U USED ON THIS PLEASE . THANK YOU!

  • thank you for the explanation, sounds much professional after this

  • You should do a tutorial for rap and RB we would love to see how you work with waves plungins

  • did u use waves tune?

  • wow sounds amazing i love it

  • I'm a rapper, and I'm trying to learn how to use plug-ins the right way. Would you say that a De-esser, compressor and an EQ would be the only plug-ins I would really need to use?? and does that fact that you're using a USB mic cause less delay to occur when recording?? becuase I'm really concered with having no delays.

  • those vox sound like they are doubled, none the less, sounding good!

  • this is the best song of all time ! !

  • my man did you put your effects on a bus or directly on vocal track and is that just one take or more and dubs? thanks, sounds very good man and a great voice doesn't hurt the effects.

  • nice

  • Damn i learned more about the components than most of these videos. Str8 to the point and very clear about whats its use is. Giving us examples. THUMBS UP.

  • good tutorial

  • MAN YOURE SUCH A GREAT MIXER!!! HOW DO YOU GET INSTRUMENTS NOT TO FIGHT WITH EACH OTHER

  • This voice was recorded with what equipment? you always use this mic preamp and with whom? for a home studio mic which would indicate you to get good recordings? and that preamp? Thank you. very good recording quality!

  • Plug and Play???....Can you please explain why i cant record with this mic...I have cool edit pro 2.0 and adbobe audtion3/windows vista...I have my my wave in (se usb 2200a) wav out (Speakers Real tek high defition)

  • DAMN That mix sounds great, its 4;19 am i was dozing off while surfing youtube for vocal mixing techniques!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and i found it....after hearing those vocals!!!!!!!!!!! I freaking WOKE UP and listened to the vid like six times to be sure how you got those vocals by using a USB MIC? WOW

  • im debating on buying a waves plug in soon. Whats a good plug in bundle thats good for beginners just learning about the waves plugins? im into mixing hip hop vocals, instruments, and other effects to make my music sound clear, concise, and still have my base lines sound good.

  • @Patjersey

There are several waves bundles that are designed for beginners in that they are affordable and easy to use, but essentially are handpicked plugins from waves pro line. Check out Native Power Pack for example. If you want to go deeper with learning how to use the plugins there is the Gold Certification Bundle course/book. One other option is to get an artist signature series bundle, like the Tony Maserati collection if you're doing hip hop.

  • @Patjersey All of them

  • is it logic/Pro-tools that u're using here???

  • @ksk235 It's Logic.

  • dude, i wanna personal say thank u. Watchin your videos have really helped me mix my vocals cleaner, but more stand out wit the beat. Thank u fam

    !!COLLARS!!

  • Logic ftw!

  • very nice tutorial .. i use wave . i like it to much . but i got problem with it in windows 7. i dont know if is compatible with it ?...

  • I Like it.

  • Hey Daniel great tutorial!! Would you pls tell me the precise settings / set up for the delay and reverb ftrom the waves plug-insplssss!!

  • Thanks! Great Tutorial!

  • dude, my audio techinca 2020 sounds crisp as hell lol. Thank u fam, u make a great teacher dude. Now i just gotta get some more ram lol

  • could u apply that same setup to rap vocals?

  • @prepboymagic

Yes you could apply a similar setup to rap vocals, but you may might choose to compress harder, and have less reverb/delay (or a shorter delay).

  • great work daniel!!

  • This is a great tutorial - may I ask, if you had a choir of voices would you do this process to each one or to a group channel after you balanced the vocals out?

  • @misterwillguitar With a choir if you don't want the vocalists to be distinct, rather want to glue them together, I would balance them into a subgroup and then process them together.

  • Nice clean sound! The only thing that would have made this vid 1 notch better would be a bit more detail on use of the plug-ins. For example, Super Tap. You say it's easy to "lock those delays to the tempo of the track". While you're there, why not show us exactly how that's done?

  • Hi ,i was told that one of the reasons why big studios sounds are better is because they use expensive preamp to record.

  • Can yu plz make a vid how to install waves into pro tools cuz it won't do it with mine

  • how do you clean up you'r vocal with pro tools...? thx

  • what DAW is he using?

  • i would like you to tell me,how to mix a real or virtual bass and synth, thenks, good tutorials

  • hey how do you remove a delay that happens when u connect ur mic

  • Good!!!!!

  • if you ran straight into the laptop how did you warm the vocals or just make em sound that perfect? lol

  • wow :D

  • any reason why you but the de-essser first in the chain? if your shelving at 8k personally i would have put it post EQ

  • smooth mixs

  • where did you get all the effects and plug-ins?

  • nice work

  • I love the song. good performance. do you have an album out?

  • If I don't have "Logic" or "APPLE" What should I get

  • @StillFABOLOUS A PC with Cakewalk Sonar, Audition or Pro Tools.

  • haha you should learn to love it, lol!

  • thanks i learned

  • not sure about the de-essing... still sounds very sibilant, though of course, it could be due to the quality of the video after being compressed etc..? How about using a 2nd de-esser after the eq and notching it?

  • @Stratocastermark I agree, I didn't notice much change in this video either, but using de-esser myself many times I can say it does wonders for sharp "Ps".

  • dis is lovely demo and d song is so beautiful,..whr I can get dis song from,..?

  • hey can i get that song you sang?

  • omg can you show me the settings?

  • Man i show could use this dude. I actually like his song better than real life artists.

  • Nice tutoral bro for beginners like me, thanks for your awesome tips !! Thumbs up !!

  • Very very useful. by the way - I liek your technique and it sounds great.

One of the better vids on mixing in the internet ;)

    Peace

  • Hi Shachar! I just realized that this is YOU, who I met and talked to at the NAMM show this year! ;) You were so helpful and nice! Thanks again, and I love your music too!

    All the best,

    Laura

  • cool song ... with the delay, did you mean sync the delay ? if so, what sync value, or does it depend on the song ? finally, what feedback and mix value did you use ? thanks

  • really like your music man ... similar to what i write ... helpful video too

  • well done bro da sound great

  • sounds cool :)

  • can you master sound waves?

  • You should widen your stereo field. It's so narrow it almost sounds like the old fashion, sutostereo if you will. Great vocals by the way.

We will put together a list of your vids and fave them on our channel.

Thanks for the well thought out tutorial.

  • im thinking about getting that mic. is it easy to install on your computer. do u have to install some drivers and a bunch of others things before you can get it to work?

  • You guys are the gods of sound engineering, bless you for these awesome plugins

  • nice dude.... please tell where can i find these plugins

  • Comment removed

  • yo dat sounds good, wuts da name of dat song and how can i find it??

    garageband or what?

  • He was using Apple Logic!

  • lovely slice of pop! Great radio song! You need to push this song out there!

  • Gonna download the full song.Cheers Bruv

  • Really nice song. I enjoyed this tutorial, as well as the full video. You make it look easy. If you get time, could you comment on how you recorded the bass? I really like the tone and how it sits in the mix. Just wondering what you used, mic or direct, effects, etc. Thanks and keep at it. Very good stuff.

  • Thanks.

I actually recorded the bass DI on this one, directly into a chandler pre-amp and into an mbox interface.

I compressed and eq'd it quite a bit, and split it to another track where i added some bass-amp model with GTR and blended the two.

You can hear the full song by searching 'shachar gilad fall' on youtube.

    cheers

  • Thanks for the reply. If you were to get some free time, I think a tutorial on that bass mix would be very informative! Just a thought. I caught the full song, as well. Very nice. Keep jamming!

  • is there a pic of ur setting so that we all cud add it to our DAW cuz i am a Hip-Hop artist and was wondering if those settings are the same

  • Thats sonds nice ;)

    Great vid!

  • love your video style

  • Logic!

  • Aye what program are you recording with ?

  • thats logic pro

  • wat program did u use

  • Think its pro tools

  • thats logic pro

  • Nice video

so do you just use them steps and mix them to finish your vocals?

do you use any other tools/effects?

    thanks

  • Hi, thanks for all the comments.

For those who asked about the finished song, search youtube for 'Shachar Gilad Fall'.

    Be in touch!

    Shachar

  • I love the video

so you just record your vocal

use them wave plugins than thats it?

do you use any other tools?

  • i would EQ first, compress, then de-ess. i use waves on my projects and they're pretty nice. sometimes they can be so frustrating that i'll end up using stock pro tools plug-ins haha. nice video for beginning aspiring engineers though.

  • This video is great man. I've been self teaching myself to engineer for the last past few years now and still got lots of learning to do. This video was actually the best for answering my question on how to mix and get a great professional sounding vocal. I'm more on the side of r&b and hip hop genres, but this song sounds great. I listen to different styles of music to kill the ignorance and open up my creative mind, but this really done it. Thanks alot man. Keep posting up videos please.

  • yeah this was what i wanted. Thank ya m8!!

  • Great video well explained, easy and good song too!!

Is the order of the fx important?

and why not the compressor at first?

  • Waves is a great program. In case nobody answered your question before, if you EQ after compression, you run the risk of undoing what you've done after using the compression. If you use a 1.5:1 to 2.5:1 ratio, it shouldn't effect your EQing much and it'll still sound good. Hope this helps.

  • Wow, that song is so good! Where can I buy/download it?

  • Thx man,

I just started looking into waves and ur tutors have helped

  • ThanX man!

    Helped me out...

  • where i can get that song?

  • You're right, the sibillance is back again ...

  • First comp than EQ and in the end use Desser, because compresor'll brings all esses up again.

  • how do you get those plugins?

  • Hey i was wondering how do u mix Different vocals, like for example 3 of the firs solo so it can sound good using Cool edit??

  • COuld you give me your setting on eq for a singers vocal.

  • what waves eq plug in is this?

  • Renaissance Equalizer

  • waves seems cool

  • Whats the Difference between Wave Diamond Bundle and Wave Gold Bundle

  • Great tips but I would never use EQ before compression....

  • why not?

  • because once you compress the sound, the eqing you just did gets thrown out of wack, and you are forced to EQ again..

  • man you sing awesome

  • i need to kno the exact names of the presets u use for compression and eq and everythimg...send me a msg or something it will be appreciated
