I would of compressed harder. And that delay was a little to apparent for my taste. Almost sounding like phasing. Idk, not my genre so yeah maybe that sounds "good" for it.
What ABout For Rap Vocals?? i just donwloaded waves plugins but am not be able to use them so much, what kinda effects do u suggest me to mix my rap vocal??
Can someone tell me the exact plug ins he used? I can't believe I spent £300 on something I don't even know how to use, he made it sound really simple.
hi you have an amazing song i was wondering if you can please help me achieve that same quality with audobe audition 3 and waves mercury plugins i have the same microphone as yours the se 2200a usb condenser and i was wondering if you could email me and help me mix my vocals properly to come out similar to yours please it would be greatly apreciated my email is demarius_miller@yahoo.com please help
Dude...I wanna tell you THANKS A MIL for putting me onto this mic! AS SOON AS I watched your video, I went on ebay and low & behold I found one for DIRT CHEAP! New in the box! Apparently the owner didn't know it's worth but nonetheless when I heard you EQ your vocals with Waves, I IMMEDIATELY had to have this mic! I own a AT4050 and it doesn't give me the automatic DEPTH I need for vocals. I watched other YT vids and this mic did WONDERS!!! THANKS AGAIN DUDE!!! THUMBS ^^^
hi there just a question , does the use of wave plugin basically do the eq gate and other settings so that you do not hav eto appley eq or gate using dicferent plugins (or the standard ones that cubase or logic give)?
@kickflipindy78 Everything he did can be done with Logic plugins but if you can afford, mixing with Waves plugins will give a pro sound to your tracks. Waves EQs, compressors and above all reverbs are to me much better than plugins coming with your DAW. NPP bundle is not very expansive and you have great stuff out there.
If you guys are wondering what exact plugings he used in the first half he used: Waves DeEsser (sss remover/limiter), Waves REQ 6 Bands (Equalizer), Waves RComp (Compressor)
hi there, i would like to know what would be the best approach to mixing backing vocals (e.g do you send to bus and work it from there or do you deal with them individually) If you do have any advice please carry on. Thanks for all the videos very helpful. Thanks.
Not bad. The vocals sounded over done. I think you'll get a better sound if you duplicate the vocal track, lower the level and add the effects to the duplicate. that way you still maintain a nice crisp and clear vocal with the original un-effected track, with the effect underneath and not so obvious. i think if you do it that way it will sound much better.
I'm a rapper, and I'm trying to learn how to use plug-ins the right way. Would you say that a De-esser, compressor and an EQ would be the only plug-ins I would really need to use?? and does that fact that you're using a USB mic cause less delay to occur when recording?? becuase I'm really concered with having no delays.
my man did you put your effects on a bus or directly on vocal track and is that just one take or more and dubs? thanks, sounds very good man and a great voice doesn't hurt the effects.
Damn i learned more about the components than most of these videos. Str8 to the point and very clear about whats its use is. Giving us examples. THUMBS UP.
This voice was recorded with what equipment? you always use this mic preamp and with whom? for a home studio mic which would indicate you to get good recordings? and that preamp? Thank you. very good recording quality!
Plug and Play???....Can you please explain why i cant record with this mic...I have cool edit pro 2.0 and adbobe audtion3/windows vista...I have my my wave in (se usb 2200a) wav out (Speakers Real tek high defition)
DAMN That mix sounds great, its 4;19 am i was dozing off while surfing youtube for vocal mixing techniques!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and i found it....after hearing those vocals!!!!!!!!!!! I freaking WOKE UP and listened to the vid like six times to be sure how you got those vocals by using a USB MIC? WOW
im debating on buying a waves plug in soon. Whats a good plug in bundle thats good for beginners just learning about the waves plugins? im into mixing hip hop vocals, instruments, and other effects to make my music sound clear, concise, and still have my base lines sound good.
There are several waves bundles that are designed for beginners in that they are affordable and easy to use, but essentially are handpicked plugins from waves pro line. Check out Native Power Pack for example. If you want to go deeper with learning how to use the plugins there is the Gold Certification Bundle course/book. One other option is to get an artist signature series bundle, like the Tony Maserati collection if you're doing hip hop.
This is a great tutorial - may I ask, if you had a choir of voices would you do this process to each one or to a group channel after you balanced the vocals out?
@misterwillguitar With a choir if you don't want the vocalists to be distinct, rather want to glue them together, I would balance them into a subgroup and then process them together.
Nice clean sound! The only thing that would have made this vid 1 notch better would be a bit more detail on use of the plug-ins. For example, Super Tap. You say it's easy to "lock those delays to the tempo of the track". While you're there, why not show us exactly how that's done?
not sure about the de-essing... still sounds very sibilant, though of course, it could be due to the quality of the video after being compressed etc..? How about using a 2nd de-esser after the eq and notching it?
@Stratocastermark I agree, I didn't notice much change in this video either, but using de-esser myself many times I can say it does wonders for sharp "Ps".
Hi Shachar! I just realized that this is YOU, who I met and talked to at the NAMM show this year! ;) You were so helpful and nice! Thanks again, and I love your music too!
cool song ... with the delay, did you mean sync the delay ? if so, what sync value, or does it depend on the song ? finally, what feedback and mix value did you use ? thanks
im thinking about getting that mic. is it easy to install on your computer. do u have to install some drivers and a bunch of others things before you can get it to work?
Really nice song. I enjoyed this tutorial, as well as the full video. You make it look easy. If you get time, could you comment on how you recorded the bass? I really like the tone and how it sits in the mix. Just wondering what you used, mic or direct, effects, etc. Thanks and keep at it. Very good stuff.
Thanks for the reply. If you were to get some free time, I think a tutorial on that bass mix would be very informative! Just a thought. I caught the full song, as well. Very nice. Keep jamming!
i would EQ first, compress, then de-ess. i use waves on my projects and they're pretty nice. sometimes they can be so frustrating that i'll end up using stock pro tools plug-ins haha. nice video for beginning aspiring engineers though.

I actually recorded the bass DI on this one, directly into a chandler pre-amp and into an mbox interface.
