  • hi ive just got a acer exactly like that but i cant get it to go online for me i can do everything else but that i have a wirless onnection that i use for other laptop with no probs. but i cant seem to get notepad to do so any ideas how to do this??? thx

  • @123CdUM452 what about switching on the wifi radio on with dedicated button (on the front)?

  • upgrade to 1 gig and you can run XP professional on it!

  • Hah - 'I won't let you see my password' - Anyone who COULD see your password from this far away has FANTASTIC eye sight (:

  • You never know... BTW, if anyone did see it, could you let me know - I've forgotten it ;-)

  • Can this be upgraded or ( whatever its called ) to Windows XP or Vista ?

Cause i heard and SAW people using Acer Aspire One with XP or Vista .

    It can right ?

  • If I'm not mistaken, the 8.9" model will shortly no longer be available. You can still find it in shops but not for much longer.

There is a Windows XP version of this model available but all the new models (10.1") are Windows XP anyway.

Finally, if you head over to The Acer Guy blog, there is an article on upgrading the Linux version.

  • Do you reckon it would still be available till November? I'm asking because I can't get this until November.

  • No. The 8.9" version is already out of production, although you might still find it in the stores. It's been replaced by a larger screen 10" and 11" XP-only models.

  • I cant wait i have just ordered it i'm getting it on the 19th yeh

  • i can't wait, i am getting this for my birthday (28th april)

  • you chepo get the xp version linux is a cheap operating system an archos is better than an aspire one with linux

  • linux is great it is sweet and simple!

  • Can you play and upload youtube videos on it???

  • Well yes, YouTube is essentially Flash and that's built into Firefox. Playback isn't a problem

Uploading them simply means you have the file on your computer and "upload" it to YouTube. If you can get the file on the Aspire One (not reason why you shouldn't) then you can upload it to YouTube.

  • is windows live messenger included on there, aka hotmail?

  • Yes but it's the Linux version. Microsoft doesn't like it so there are some factory "tweaks" needed but yes, it's there. Only messenger service it's not compatible with is Yahoo.

  • the messenger is magical.. it can sign me into all of my messenger accounts at once like yahoo msn aim wateva i want reli i think it is yahoo compatible but i havent tried it tbh

  • anyone know if this will play Half-Life 2, Counter Strike Source, or any Steam games with the new engine?

  • can the RAM on the acer aspire one with Linpus and 8gb ssd memory be expanded to 1.5gb?

  • how do i open or intal a download

  • Great Review Man! Really helps me out.. Does it run Java?

Best Review I've seen of this so far.. (All 3)!

  • nice video too bad i "couldnt get your password" ^_-

  • Im thinking about persuading one myself.

But did you get al the extra's standard or did you have to pay for them?

Extra's like; 6 cell battery, 1,5 GB RAM, 120 GB HD, and so on.

  • No. The one I "borrowed" was standard (80GB HDD, Skype). The one I "bought" is exactly the same spec for first edition machines except 8GB SSD and no Skype.

Search for "Aspire One 6-cell battery" and you'll see that Engadget has them listed at $119.99...

  • I got a 120 GB hard disc acer aspire one with 1GH Ram, it´s really cheap :)

  • That one is here in The Netherlands (Holland)too with Windows XP Home.

I heard that the 120 Gb HD, 1Gb RAM, XP Home with 6-cell battery is comming, I am waiting for that one.

The 3-cell version cost here 400 euro's at the moment.

  • argh! I have mine right now, but I cant open it until christmas, DEC.25

  • hehehehe, I am getting mine for Christmas but will most likely open it before then

  • Thank so much Acer Guy, I bought one Monday now I'm watching for the delivery truck, I'm so excited. You were very informative and you sold me on the product.

  • Hi

Really good videos. I assume I can plug in a USB mouse and a DVD player if required.

    Is BBC iPlayer OK?

    Thanks again.

  • I assume so, although I completely forgot to check out the BBC website to make sure. The Aspire One comes with Firefox preinstalled and if you do a search for "BBC iPlayer Firefox" on Google (iptv-watch) you should have some good news.

I won't know about the external DVD player until my one arrives in 10 days but I can't imagine why it wouldn't be. I'll post some more videos when it arrives.

  • Thanks for your promt reply

  • nice video, dude. clear and comprehensive. i do have a question before i buy one. i'm planning to buy the version with xp. how do i reformat the lil' gizmo, since it has no optical drive?

  • It's a good question and one I've asked the tech support guys to answer. Watch this space...

  • Any answer on this one?

  • Oh I am sorry forgive me i did not read the rest

    :{

  • Nice video! Do you know if you can use the touchpad to click or do you have to use the physical mouse button? That mouse button sounds incredibly loud, and I prefer tapping the touch pad anyway.

  • Thanks!

The One I had was a pre-production model and they're famous for creaks, squeaks and all sorts of bugs (risky videos - LOL) but I was getting both touchpad clicks and scrolling too.

    Plus my mike's VERY sensitive...

The Skype program was also a beta version so I'll be curious (hopeful) to see if they release a stable version before launch.

  • fantastic device , but i wonder if it has wimax technology?

  • From the press release: "The Aspire one comes with 802.11b/g WiFi built-in as standard for easy access to available wireless networks and can also be specified with a choice of embedded WiMAX or 3G wireless technologies for even greater wireless freedom."

At launch it'll be WiFi only but later on in the year it'll be available in WiFi + 3G or WiFi + WiMAX versions.

  • I love it thanks cant wait 2 get one

  • hi if i was to buy the linux one.could i install xp aswell.

  • No you can't as it's a closed system.

  • what does that mean

  • Closed system? Meaning they put some sort of block to not allow you to install other operating systems? That would be surprising, and I would wonder why they would bother stopping customers from doing what they want with the hardware. Needless to say, if they did such a thing I'm sure it will be hacked rather quickly if the One becomes popular (Which I assume it will because of the low price).

  • I'm no Linux expert, but from what I'm hearing, Acer has decided to "close" it so that it's as safe as possible. Considering the number of these first-series netbooks that are going to fly off the shelves, I think that's probably a wise choice.

Obviously someone very soon will find a way to hack it but you basically screw your warranty if you do...

  • What Do You Mean "Closed System"

    Please Reply

    Thanks

  • It's pretty amazing. I'm buying one for my daughter (she REALLY liked it) and one for me! Linux rocks, it's a really different experience, like you just lost a lot of weight ;-)

Don't want anyone to flame me for this but the white is *very* similar to Lamborghini Pearl White. And how cool is that?

  • nice video sir...i really like this acer aspire one.i cant wait to buy it....

the white so cool...asus go to hell
