  • I think he is safe at first.

  • oooh no top comment gotta to think of something really clever...

    oh fuck it

    BOOBIES!

  • The ump is looking at the bag and listening to the ball go in the glove .I had to look at it 3 times . Very close and would have been a argued no matter what. That is baseball and any one saying anything negative, has never called a game and sounds like they have never made a mistake

  • He was out take this vid change name og the video

  • the ball was on the 1st base's glove but the batter/runner's foot was as well on the bag as you view it on when you pause it on 0:12 that is SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He beat the ball. But if he had've hustled down the line rather than dragging ass for hitting a soft groundball to the SS (which he kicked anyway) he would've been called safe.

  • Tie Runner is safe but he shouldnt take that fucking long to run to 1st :/

  • Safe

  • Safe pause at 0:12. There is no tie goes to the runner rule anywhere in any baseball rule book btw to you idiots that think that. It wasnt even a tie.

  • safe

  • He beat it by a hair, so not a great call. Had he hustled out of the box, the ump would have called him safe easily.

  • safe!! tie goes to runner!

  • @snuffy110 There is absolutely no such rule as "tie goes to the runner". It is a myth that should not be perpetuated.

  • @vrininger I'm not arguing there is such a rule, but what happens in the case of a tie then?

  • @ChainGang220 There is no such thing as a tie in baseball. Think about it, it is completely impossible for a human being to determine a tie in a situation like this. I agree there are impossibly close plays that "could go either way. However, the umpire has to make a call, safe or out. The word "tie" appears nowhere in the rule book. It is a made up rule used for sandlot players who did not have umpires.

  • @ChainGang220 BTW, I hit a good stop point on this video. The runners foot was on the bag and the ball was 8" from the glove. There are probably 20 people saying it was a "tie" on this page. It was not a tie. It was very close, but it was not a tie. Also many umpires have told me that on very close plays, they are "trained" to call the runner out. This expedites the game, and is in direct contradiction to the "tie goes to the runner" myth.

  • @vrininger Fair enough, except the runner is out here if you pause at 0:12. Nice try though.

  • @ChainGang220 As I said the runners foot was on the bag and the ball was 8" from the glove. This was at 0:12. It is very hard to get a good stop point on these videos. This was the best one I ever got. So I guess we have to agree to disagree on that point.

  • @vrininger Wow, I apologize. You're correct. Anybody that says he's out and found the stop point at 0:12, is actually imagining the ball being in his glove. It is not actually there yet. He's safe by about a foot.

  • safe but not that bad of call, i mean it was pretty close

  • safe by a mile

  • safe big time

  • tie but it goes to runner

  • safe by far

  • OUT

  • safe

  • SAFE

  • No no no no no no

  • Hes out. pause around the end of 0:12 he's still in the air and the balls in the glove.

  • This guy is safe. pause it at around 0:12 and the ball is still in the air and the runner's foot is on the bag.

  • @Deathbladez3000 paused and 0:12 and and the runners foot was on the bag a good 3 feet before the ball was in the glove

  • @Locker2119 then maybe the white blob i saw wasnt the ball? ahaha XD idk. couldnt be.. maybe the ball hadnt even showed up yet.

  • OUT!!!

  • safe 0:12 foots on the bag before the ball reaches his glove.

  • out

  • out by less than a half step

  • out

  • He's out. Good call, Blue!

  • 0:12

  • safe

  • out

  • touchdown. no doubt

  • Out, go frame by frame pausing it and if you look closely the ball is in his mit before his foot hits the bag. Really Close play though!

  • SAFE

  • If you check out my channel under post bulletin i post a link of a screenshot showing him being safe at about 12 seconds :) or you can do it yourself and just play and pause over and over to see it.

  • The play is really really close it could go either way. The only person who really knows if he was safe or out is the first baseman. I play first base and you can feel the runner hitting the bag.

  • safe, if i could upload a screen shot i would

  • safe

  • safe pause at 12 sec

  • hes out simple as that

  • safe

  • he was safe

  • SAFE I PAUSED AT 0:12 AND THE FOOT IS ON THE BAG AND THE BALL IS ABOUT A FOOT AWAY

  • @smosh37 are you blind? clearly you can see the white in the first basemans glove, he's out

  • He was out i paused at the moment of the catch

  • If I were the ump I would call him out

  • safe i plsy softball and they always call that fair

  • he was out but close enough to call a tie. and tie goes to the runner

  • The first baseman had the ball before the runner got his foot on the bag...

    Out.

  • never mind he is safe

  • out

when you start at 10 seconds you pause and click it again then you pause then you click it again then you pause you could see he is SO

    OUT

  • Stop at the 12 second mark. When you see it, you will shit bricks.

  • safe

  • safe

  • safe

  • I landed the frame in the 12 second mark, it is safe.

  • Tie goes to the runner........thumbs up if you watched several times clicking pause-play-pause-play-pause-play.......

  • SAFE !!!! Pause it people

  • safe i paused it IRONICLY when the runners foot was on the bag and the ball wasnt close to being in the glove yet sooo.......SAFE

  • @jfurm333 I tried but couldn't land that frame.......all I got was a perfect tie.......glad I'm not an ump........

  • @sendittobryce lol idk how i did it but i did :)

  • @jfurm333 how is that ironic?

  • No....he's out

  • SAFE!

  • Safe, but theres no pause button irl

  • WHO THE FUCK CARES!

  • @Grantwinkler9 lol!!

  • SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • it took me like 30 tries but i paused it perfectly and the runner's foot is on the bag while the ball isnt securedin the glove. safe.

  • @antsmarching412step yeah, i see that now

  • it wasnt even i tie i paused it and he was out

  • dcbingam

Obviously you have never watch baseball."tie does go to the runner" so he is clearly safe.

  • SAFE!!!!

  • Clearly, none of you have ever read a baseball rule book. The batter runner must beat the ball to be declared safe. There is not such thing as "tie goes to the runner!" A tie is not beating the ball to the bag, therefore this call was correct. The batter runner is out for not beating the ball to the bag. Good call.

  • @dcbingam lol atleast someone knows what there talking about, for every one the rule "The batter runner must beat the ball to be declared safe" doesnt specify that the tie goes to the runner, when it really comes down to a game its mainly a decision call and what i learned from single A umps "when in doubt, call em out"

  • In my oppinion as Umpire he is out

  • SAFE!!!!!!!!!!

  • Pause it at twelve and then play then pause again real fast you can see that the runner is touching the bag and the ball isnt even in the firstbasemans mit

  • Tie goes to the runner

  • 13 seconds. clearly safe.

  • pause it at 12 seconds. batters out

  • safe tie goes to runner

  • SAFE tie goes to runner

  • safe

  • safe

  • Very tough call to make but yes he was safe.

  • safe

  • artificial dirt? anyways, safe

  • ssssssssaffe

  • Slow mo... SAFE

  • out.

  • Final ruling 0:12 seconds .. SAFE!

  • safe

  • i guess this is joyce in younger years

  • pause it at 12 clearly safe

  • out

  • safe cause it was a tie and tie goes to runner

  • @scottkilla1 it wasnt a tie he was safe by quite a bit

  • barely safe

  • safe he came b4 the tie

  • safe

  • out

  • safe

  • yer out!!!!!!!!

  • Even it was a tie he is still safe

  • tie goes to the fielder hes out

  • @isaacgore100 Tie goes to the runner dumbass

  • @lukegumaer no its a judgement call you moron and it always goes to the runner

  • @isaacgore100 Normally I would not even waste time replying to a retard but here I go...... of course its a judgement call you stupid ass hole, every call an umpire makes is a judgement call, no one said it wasn't. And pull your head out of your ass, the comment I was responding to was when you said "tie goes to the fielder he's out." Make up your mind before you start telling people what the rules are. 5year old girls know tie goes to the runner.

  • @lukegumaer it looks more like the right call when the runner and the ball get to the bag at the same time to call him out that is what usally out

  • @lukegumaer oh and by the way a person who curses as much as you do shows lack of intellegance and vocabulary

  • out

  • safe

  • out

  • safe

  • Safe 0:12

  • safe

  • safe

  • safe runner always gets the tie

  • safe

  • very close but if you stop it right at the 12 second mark, it shows the runners foot on the bag with the ball a few feet away from the 1st basemans mitt.

  • safe

  • safe

  • At 00:13 you can clearly see the foot is on the bag and the ball is still about 3 feet from the first basemen's glove...SAFE

  • tie but it goes to the runner soo safe

  • safe but its a tough one

  • safe

  • At first I thought he was safe, but I was able to pause it at one frame where the ball was clearly in the mitt and the foot had yet to touch the bag.

  • cant tell

  • its a tight call

  • he's safe pause it at 0:12 if you can

his toe touches the plate before the ball is even close to the first base his glove

imho the cal is way to close of the naked eye the runner dint do his best and made a little jump

put all those factors together and u might understand why the first base ump actually called it a out

  • 0:12

  • NO. The ball has to beat the runner. I don't know it's too close. If he had actually hustled the whole time up the line though it wouldn't have been close

  • safe, but it was close. had to do in slow motion to be sure

  • Safe!

  • safe

  • he is safe pause at 12 and you can see the ball still in the air while the runners leg is on the base

  • He's out. pause it at 0:12, you see the ball in the mitt, and the foot a tiny bit of the bag.

  • way safe

  • Know how i know he was out? The ump said he was out. This makes him out.

  • out. i timed it the ball was in his hand 1 half of a sec be4 the runner got his foot on the base

  • He could have made that call either way and been wrong! I would've called safe, on first glance, but after watching it 5 times, I would have to put it to slowmo to even tell. Umpires only get one chance though, and I personally would have called safe simply on the basis that the shortstop shouldn't have bobbled the ball, it shouldn't have been a close play in the first place.

  • safe.

  • Safe... but the runner should have hustled

  • He's safe

  • Out for sure and it's really not close. Oh and you don't listen for the sound as the sound is 100's of miles per slower. Easy call...OUT

  • Safe pause it at :12

  • i woulda called him out. Really seems like the right call if you do stop this video 20 times and watch it slow mo

  • The difference between us an the umpire is that we can slow it down and decide, while he has to make the call instantaneously shortly after seeing the play. There are times an umpire will make the wrong call, and a few seconds later think oh shit. I made the wrong call, but by then it's too late. The day an umpire calls a perfect game, whether on the bases or behind home plate .. especially behind home plate is the day I play in the MLB

  • Definately safe. Mike is correct freeze the frame and there is no question the runner beat the throw.

  • out

  • Out because close plays lik that should always go to the defense

  • @1stpartymonster lets hope you never umpire

  • he was out. first baseman had the ball an instant before the runner's foot touched the bag

  • @TAOtheGod no he didnt. if u freeze it, his foot hit the bag b4 he caught the ball

  • @Mike2010979 ur wrong umpires listen for what they hear so the ball must've hit the glove first before the sound of the foot pressing down on the base came. And it's obviously out

  • @cooldude100ist ok obviously u not lookin at the play. his foot hits the bag b4 the ball hits the glove. if u pause it at like 12 or 13 secs u would see that. and i kno about umpiring. but this ump did not make the rite call.

  • hes safe

  • SAFE!!!!!!!!

  • if you freeze it at exactly 0:12 his foot isnt touching but the ball is in the mitt so therefore he is out

  • "The ball must beat the runner to the base" - which it clearly did not (0:11). He is safe, it was a bang-bang call and the ump got it wrong. Being a first base ump in youth baseball, you will see and make calls on hundreds of plays in just one season. Umpires, just like players, make errors too....

  • i love how the runner slowed down out at the end, he deserves to be out. Hes a dumbass

  • OUT

  • start the video at 0:08 stop it at 0.12; it's a perfect safe

  • Tie! i think lol

  • Tie goes to the runner isnt a real rule. Hes out.

  • it helps to listen for the sound of the ball going into the glove and the runner's foot o the base, i think thats how ur supposed to tell...
