Nah Margaret's just getting a taste of her own medicine: She acted horrible after knowing Beth fancied her, she suggested Beth was disgusting, she called her a liar, etc

She was confused and took a little while to get used to the idea, yeah she said some horrible things but it was a shock. She didn't abandon Beth, and just took a bit longer to come to terms with things. But she did love Beth (in whatever capacity) and Beth was just cruel and discarded her after fighting so hard for her and saying she loved her. Margaret's reaction was yes mean, but to a degree understandable, Beth was just cruel!
