Reaction Formation: a term meaning saying and doing things one is against but is a means of covering up what they truly want and desire. Many homophobics are in reality quite gay - so they become very anti-gay to suppress these desires and/or or at least cover it up in front of others. Like a typical preacher who says gay is a sin, but has a boyfriend prostitute on the side. That's reaction formation.

@WinterHaven And if a white person bashed blacks and Hispanics, you wouldn't be saying "reaction formation" or that they're black or Hispanic themselves. Similarly, if we go back to a behavior-based issue rather than a physical trait-based issue, if someone bashed pedophiles they wouldn't be told that they secretly have tendencies to want to screw children.

@evanstoler I don't know if you realize this, but pedophilia is a crime. But I'm also aware many preachers and priests are child rapists so they don't realize it. PS: What two CONSENTING ADULTS do is really none of anybody's business, but exploitation and raping of children is entirely different.
