this is amp is incredible...unfortunately after a few weeks i have to get rid of it :(. I will end up buying it as soon as i can again but for now family calls....if someone is interested message me...
what i want to know is if this amp is limited in its power since it has so much going on. For instance, Does the mark IV setting on this amp Sound like a real MARK IV and can be teaked to sounds exactly or really really close to that of a real stock mrk 4. head???
i have been using a mesa boogie triaxis for 14 years with a 20/20 boogie tube power amp and marshall 1960 cab. I see those other amps piled around the store and I honestly dont understand how anyone could hear this amp and buy anything but a boogie. thanks for the demo.
You didn't even hit on pentode vs. triode too!! Triode makes the lead channel more bouncy and more like the real IIC+, which was also an option on the Mark IV. The early Mark III's were wired in triode only while the late models were pentode only making the "extreme" mode the closest to the Mark III tones.
Definitely the most versatile Boogie amp made yet.
I didn't intend on just making a video of 'my playing ability'... I was more interested in playing simple stuff that would give watchers a feel for the sound of the amp, not how it sounds because of my playing.
I understand that, but playing riffs on different parts of the fret board will evoke different sounds from the amp. I wasnt able to hear how the amp sounds when high notes on the e string were played, which is a significant part.
i don t know wat it is - maybe his guitar or the settings - but it really doesnt sound very nice in this demo... im sure its a really good amp but his tone sounds a bit thin...
do you ever jam/practice in 10 watt mode on channel 3 and just crank it up (instead of having it at 45 or 90, and then turning it down)? does that option work well for when you want power tube distortion?
i would think you can jam out at 10 watts and be able to push it with out going overboard on volume.
yeah, i'm going into my first jam with it tomorrow where i'll get to crank in the first time. i'll have to see which tube is working in the 10 watts mode....i'm guessing that one will go out before the other three, seeing as i'll be using that a lot....i don't think i'll ever need to use all four tubes on channels 2 and 3. i wonder if i can just replace one tube, or if i have to by a four-matched set from mesa.
i don't know about power tube distortion at low volume but thats the idea. if its 10 watts its still probably gonna shake the windows at the point of power tube distortion.
@ruffles272, o yeah, it's still loud as hell....but now i have a Groove Tubes SEII....so i run my power stage at 10 at 3 am, amazing tube saturation!...i'm talking BROWN SOUND.
yeah, i've got a bugera v22 and i found out that i'm not really that much of a fan of el84s.... just a little to jangley for my style. but it sounds reeeaaal good at low volumes with the gain cranked
I had the recto, and I now have a mark V. I can say with great certancy that you cannot get near as nasty with a a recto. I also run it threw a Vader 4X12 and it is the only cab I have used that can show the Mark V's full potential.
thanks for the review mate! im getting my markV today, i absolutely love the markIIc+ channel! possibly the best amp to date... shame it has no midi control.. :(

@davidovich69 Depends on what you like, but I have listen to lots of Rectifiers and still don't like them.
I like them on professional albums, but when I'm in front of a Rectifier, I hate its sound

The guy's next vid shows more of the high gain metal evil of which I spoke. :)
Looks like he has got to grips with it more in the next part.
Guitarsthatkill 2 years ago
The gain is indeed ridiculous and rich, sustaining and brutal when you dial it in.
Maybe this guy just hasnt spent enough time dialling it in yet, to unleash the true brutality...
He did admit that he has jumped on it quick at the store, rather than it being his own amp, with which of course, he'd be more familiar with.
Also maybe he kept his pick ups low to avoid feedback...? Cause when you crank the gain, it becomes a beast at full pickup output.
I have the combo version and a Marshall cab.

Is it bad to have this amp on full power (90 watts) almost all the time?
Metallmeister666 2 years ago
i feel as if this amp lacks a bit of distortion.. or it could just be the quality of the camera
xXlopoXx 2 years ago
quality of the camera ;). The disto on a MarkV is absolutely amazing.

Seriously? This amp is used by some of the heaviest bands in existence. This amp has awesome distortion.

I currently have a Triple Rec... This Mark V puts it to shame, TBH.
I'll have to try one next time I visit the local gear store...

I have a Mark V. this demo, which is a fine demo, doesn't show how badass this amp really is. My last three amps have been, In orger-
mesa recto
Diezel VH4
VHT pitbull
the Mark V is the meanest of all of them
when pushed mind you.

what exactly do you mean by pushed?

come on. turn up the gain plz. its a mesa boogie, the highest of all high gain amps

Not this one. The Mark IV and IIC+ have more gain in the respected modes.
