@AblueSHADEofMETAL dont do more than 23 psi. Anything more than that your well out of the turbos power efficiency. Ive owned a 09 SS/TC and i cant say its bad for the car but there is no tuning level after 22.5 PSI on a stock borg warner. It basically goes into infini mode where it just spins and there are no further gains. Just a fyi. Basic bolt-ons got me a 12.4 and 118 out here at speedworld, AZ

There is nothing wrong with boosting past 23psi either, it just gets you moving faster do to the increase in torque low down, it will never hold the boost anyway, its at about 18-19 by redline. There are only two cobalts I know of hitting 118 on the stock turbo. Mine and ZZP's mine wasnt even 118 it was 117.6.

@k2dogg86 Hang on do you have a g8 or a cobalt? E85 burns so cold you dont need meth to cool intake charges. Those injectors are for a common rail system they are not DI injectors for a ss/tc. Dont even start with bring my car out there, my cobalt makes over 500whp now, and at 430 whp it trapped 124mph, check some of the videos. If you have a g8 then yes they have injectors, we started off talking about a cobalt ss, and you never mentioned a different car if you do have a g8

i have a buddy at school who was talking about how his stage 2 cobalt ss s/c was the most badass car around was, so i pulled out my 83 5.0 and put 10 cars on him by 4th gear.... idk bout the turbo cars, but the supercharged ones arent all that fast

I pulled second and third to pull even(started my bumber at his door, and then he pulled back forth and I pulled fifth. You have a 4.6 with a kenne bell, and now I have a 2.0 with a 60mm turbo making 550whp and should be running 10.5's this coming season. My cobalt has proven itself at the track many times. taking the stock turbo record with a 11.95 at 117.6mph at only ~330whp

@sinister99gt I have a fully built motor also, and with everything I am less than 5k. If you can do some of the work yourself. The car cost 21,000 brand new. So for the car and mods I am still less than a stock GT would cost new. Of course you cant compaire the amount of boost it will take to reach a certain number between the cars do to the displacement advantage to the mustang.
@cmiller8006 i am building a new 4.6 right now , forged ,cams , CNC the heads, everything.along with some work on the rear end. hope to have it done in late feb , should be around 550 at the wheels maby a little more . hope to have it ready for the NMRA season opener in bradenton in march.this is also my daily driver , so it will be fun. i just love the sound and feel of a V8, i just cant seem to get past the sound of smaller cars.

@cmiller8006 my car with the kenne bell on stock motor 118,000 miles on it made 408 rwhp, 456 ftlbs of torque. you know as well as i do , the ability to drive is a huge factor when the hp and torque start to get up there. thats why a race from a roll just bothers me. you can drive your car , most cant. a race from a roll is there only hope.

@cmiller8006 there is a big differance between track fast and street fast, i have nitto nt01 road racing tires on my car . thay are good on the street and at the track , i just got a set of 15 inch race star wheels and hoosier drag radials. i havent had a chance to try them out yet. im affraid i will break a axel so i am waiting till i get the rear done

everyone here is saying that the cobalt is faster than a gt right..... then how come the numbers say different? the cobalt does a 5.5 to 60 while the mustang gets 5.1, the 1/4 mile shows the same result... 14.2 cobalt, 13.8 mustang.

@nightwing0707 tune only? no. a stang needs bolt ons + tune to make over 300whp. a cobalt with bolt ons + a good tune is around 330whp on average, in a 3000 pound car. the only fast mustangs are the 2011 gt's, 03+ terminator cobra, and shelby gt500. the rest are slower, even the mach 1 is slower.
@nightwing0707 To this reply, look at some other mags. They ran 13.8 with the cobalt. Now real world the balt has a best of 13.5 and the stang 13.3 bone stock. But the cobalt still trapped higher by almost two mph. My cobalt is 2980 with me in it and the stang in this vid was 34xx without him in it. power to weight.

@nightwing0707 Yes that is correct. The mustang is quicker in the quarter stock for stock but the cobalt is faster, meaning it traps higher. Like I said in other replies that was my cobalt when it was pretty much stock. The coblat trapped about 105-106 at the time. Stock 3valve about 103.

yeah i own a 08 ss cobalt and it makes 20-23 psi and 318 fwhp and 398 torque. if this guy would of had a tune on his he would have walked the stang easy. cobalt potential very good b/c of power to weight ratio
does the cobalt have a tune or stage 1? If it doesn't you might as well disregard his mods because the car has a learn down feature so he was at stock power

The computer has a 'learn-down' feature that will NERF any mods you currently do if they put HP over the 260 that it expects. Mods will do NO good until the stage kit comes out for these things which is "Supposedly" due within a month or so. That will take HP/TQ from 260/260 to 280/320. It'll be just as quiet too. No stupid sounding blow-off shit. (I prefer the stealth of not having that tell-tale "LOOK AT ME" blow-off valve sound.
Unless it just came out today...it's not fully "OUT". The hard parts have been released and sold as a stage 1 kit for the Cobalt SS but the codes to enable the flash to the ECU have NOT been released for the cobalt yet. They're in the 2nd half of a typically 90-day period that it takes California to give it a C.A.R.B. certification. Once they release that, then GM can release the flash codes for those who've bought kits....Like me.
Yes, I got to the point of not doing any bolt-ons except K&N and a exhaust for sound till I could get a good tune. But DAMN, there's a few of these cars using STOCK TURBO running 11.89@115 on slicks. That puts any SRT4 to shame as the SRT4 neons have a big turbo upgrade in the stg 3\3R factory upgrade..I want a good upgraded clutch... I've tried 2 & they suck..They eliminate the No lift feature.. the clutches are: clutchmasters & Exedy..avoid them for this car. Me: 3 boltons, a tune: 12.9@110
And to all the idiots out there: the new turbo SS cobalt is immediately recognized with it's brembo front brakes and Z06 style wheels...... and a mesh\honeycomb grill.. that's it... The new turbo SS stock can take out\beat the last generation SS\SC.....In fact the stock SS\TC will even out run a stg 2 cobalt SS\SC... I know, I've raced both these cars against eachother.....
A Stg 2 SS/SC with nothing more yes...but add CAI zzp headers a GMPPerformance exhaust and a DP..um no cuz i have that and i beat SS/TC by at least 2 cars, i'm not bragging i'm just saying i've never lost to one......yet
blaklyonz18 obviously has not driven a new turbo cobalt SS. The New SS has a slightly better\lower weight to power ratio. Stock cobalt SS\TC is actually faster than a Mustang GT any year from 2005-2010 in the 1\4 in terms of trap spd. Automatic GT's are slow.
And to answer Ace28233: Answer is yes. No tune, stock 260hp level despite modds. We have to tell the computer to read the modds in these new cobalts. All the bolt-ons will do you no good without a good re-tune on top of them.
First off, no lift shift is NOT a MOD..... So basically this new cobalt SS was Nearly stock ... This SS had only exhaust and Air intake... and The new Cobalt has a feature called learn down and without a re-tune, the learn -down is still in place so the mods make no extra power over stock....... A well driven srtock SS\TC does 0-60 in 5.5 sec.... A stock Automatic new mustang GT (2005-2010) does 0-60 in 5.8 sec.. The 5spd manual stang does 0-60 in 5.3 to 5.4 sec...A fairly even race....
well every one has already said this but, that balt should be tuned. guarantee it would pull 310 whp. neighbor put a cai and chopped his stock exhaust and pulled 303 with a tune. awesome cars to mod. you can pull so much from those motors.
the thing is the cobalt ss/tc power is rated at the wheels the mustang is rated on the crank, the cobalt would of got him we all saw the mustang started half a car out and at the end of the race the cobalt was pullin out on him so the mustang boy called it the end i give props to the cobalt i had one 06' s/c people underestimate them they have potential!

You can slap a cai on a speed 3 and gain 25 hp without a tune. tuning makes a difference but so does that turbo. bet the balt had about 280whp without the tune. not even close to the 310 he could pull with a tune. but still a lot
i don't think you understand what i am saying you literally gain no peak hp or tq without a tune on these cars you can have full turboback exhaust, full CAI, bigger fmic, new ic piping and still would have the same stock hp and tq cause the ecu will tune your car down to make it so..... without a tune no matter what mods you do you are still stock
only the cobalt ss/tc the other 2 ss's that were in production didn't have this on there ecu it is affectionately known as the "learn down" system you will NEVER gain peak power from boltons on a cobalt ss/tc unless that system is removed (by a tune) the good news is most people gain about 80 wtq and 50 whp from just a tune :)
No my car was not tuned at this time, so I was only at the 260/260 limit still. Now my car is tuned, dont know hp numbers but I ran a 12.6 at 111 last night.

I beat a stock 2007 mustang gt with my stock 2009 cobalt SS by 0.02 seconds about 3 weeks ago. He pulled me off the line bigtime and i started sneaking up by the 1/8th and barely passed him across the line. seriously, no internet bullshit here, was the closest race I have ever had and I didn't even think I got him till I saw the timeslip. I think it was the no lift shifting that did it. He also said the run was good for him, no missed shifts/over revs... so the cars are crazy close match.
well they both make 260 stock but if u think about power to weight the cobalt would pull they were made to be put up againest the gt but it wont pull hard
If the Cobalt doesn't have a tune the exhaust and intake are not doing much of anything. Might spool a bit faster, that's about it. ECU "learns down" back to 260hp ( Crank )

I pulled second and third to pull even(started my bumber at his door, and then he pulled back forth and I pulled fifth. You have a 4.6 with a kenne bell, and now I have a 2.0 with a 60mm turbo making 550whp and should be running 10.5's this coming season. My cobalt has proven itself at the track many times. taking the stock turbo record with a 11.95 at 117.6mph at only ~330whp

@cmiller8006 i can appreciate the speeds that that small car can reach with a turbo, like little honda hatch backs i have seen that put up good times. the fact of the matter is its still a honda hatch, or chevy cavalier.put a turbo on your friends mustang with 1/2 the boost and were not having this conversation .forced induction, N/A .apples to oranges . how much will it cost you to put that turbo on that car on top of the money already spent? just curious.

@sinister99gt I have a fully built motor also, and with everything I am less than 5k. If you can do some of the work yourself. The car cost 21,000 brand new. So for the car and mods I am still less than a stock GT would cost new. Of course you cant compaire the amount of boost it will take to reach a certain number between the cars do to the displacement advantage to the mustang.

@cmiller8006 i am building a new 4.6 right now , forged ,cams , CNC the heads, everything.along with some work on the rear end. hope to have it done in late feb , should be around 550 at the wheels maby a little more . hope to have it ready for the NMRA season opener in bradenton in march.this is also my daily driver , so it will be fun. i just love the sound and feel of a V8, i just cant seem to get past the sound of smaller cars.

@cmiller8006 my car with the kenne bell on stock motor 118,000 miles on it made 408 rwhp, 456 ftlbs of torque. you know as well as i do , the ability to drive is a huge factor when the hp and torque start to get up there. thats why a race from a roll just bothers me. you can drive your car , most cant. a race from a roll is there only hope.

everyone here is saying that the cobalt is faster than a gt right..... then how come the numbers say different? the cobalt does a 5.5 to 60 while the mustang gets 5.1, the 1/4 mile shows the same result... 14.2 cobalt, 13.8 mustang.

@nightwing0707 tune only? no. a stang needs bolt ons + tune to make over 300whp. a cobalt with bolt ons + a good tune is around 330whp on average, in a 3000 pound car. the only fast mustangs are the 2011 gt's, 03+ terminator cobra, and shelby gt500. the rest are slower, even the mach 1 is slower.

@nightwing0707 To this reply, look at some other mags. They ran 13.8 with the cobalt. Now real world the balt has a best of 13.5 and the stang 13.3 bone stock. But the cobalt still trapped higher by almost two mph. My cobalt is 2980 with me in it and the stang in this vid was 34xx without him in it. power to weight.

I have a 2003 GT exhaust//pulleys/stage 2 clutch i tear the turbo and supercharged cobalt up. even with exhaust and intake, your GT really isnt that buit, You should be embarresed. Especially since that cobalt is half the price and motor of your GT, either learn to drive stick or stop racing automatics. You embaress mustangs.

@nightwing0707 Yes that is correct. The mustang is quicker in the quarter stock for stock but the cobalt is faster, meaning it traps higher. Like I said in other replies that was my cobalt when it was pretty much stock. The coblat trapped about 105-106 at the time. Stock 3valve about 103.

The computer has a 'learn-down' feature that will NERF any mods you currently do if they put HP over the 260 that it expects. Mods will do NO good until the stage kit comes out for these things which is "Supposedly" due within a month or so. That will take HP/TQ from 260/260 to 280/320. It'll be just as quiet too. No stupid sounding blow-off shit. (I prefer the stealth of not having that tell-tale "LOOK AT ME" blow-off valve sound.

Unless it just came out today...it's not fully "OUT". The hard parts have been released and sold as a stage 1 kit for the Cobalt SS but the codes to enable the flash to the ECU have NOT been released for the cobalt yet. They're in the 2nd half of a typically 90-day period that it takes California to give it a C.A.R.B. certification. Once they release that, then GM can release the flash codes for those who've bought kits....Like me.

Yes, I got to the point of not doing any bolt-ons except K&N and a exhaust for sound till I could get a good tune. But DAMN, there's a few of these cars using STOCK TURBO running 11.89@115 on slicks. That puts any SRT4 to shame as the SRT4 neons have a big turbo upgrade in the stg 3\3R factory upgrade..I want a good upgraded clutch... I've tried 2 & they suck..They eliminate the No lift feature.. the clutches are: clutchmasters & Exedy..avoid them for this car. Me: 3 boltons, a tune: 12.9@110

blaklyonz18 obviously has not driven a new turbo cobalt SS. The New SS has a slightly better\lower weight to power ratio. Stock cobalt SS\TC is actually faster than a Mustang GT any year from 2005-2010 in the 1\4 in terms of trap spd. Automatic GT's are slow.
And to answer Ace28233: Answer is yes. No tune, stock 260hp level despite modds. We have to tell the computer to read the modds in these new cobalts. All the bolt-ons will do you no good without a good re-tune on top of them.

First off, no lift shift is NOT a MOD..... So basically this new cobalt SS was Nearly stock ... This SS had only exhaust and Air intake... and The new Cobalt has a feature called learn down and without a re-tune, the learn -down is still in place so the mods make no extra power over stock....... A well driven srtock SS\TC does 0-60 in 5.5 sec.... A stock Automatic new mustang GT (2005-2010) does 0-60 in 5.8 sec.. The 5spd manual stang does 0-60 in 5.3 to 5.4 sec...A fairly even race....

well every one has already said this but, that balt should be tuned. guarantee it would pull 310 whp. neighbor put a cai and chopped his stock exhaust and pulled 303 with a tune. awesome cars to mod. you can pull so much from those motors.

I have an 09 Cobalt SS/TC and its best run is from a 30 roll from 2nd gear, try that next time.

the thing is the cobalt ss/tc power is rated at the wheels the mustang is rated on the crank, the cobalt would of got him we all saw the mustang started half a car out and at the end of the race the cobalt was pullin out on him so the mustang boy called it the end i give props to the cobalt i had one 06' s/c people underestimate them they have potential!

first off no lift shift is stock so i don't even know why that would be on the list for mods, second you might as well just put that the balt is stock cause it is still making the same hp and tq as a stock cobalt since it isn't tuned... the tune makes the car for these ss/tc's :)

You can slap a cai on a speed 3 and gain 25 hp without a tune. tuning makes a difference but so does that turbo. bet the balt had about 280whp without the tune. not even close to the 310 he could pull with a tune. but still a lot

i don't think you understand what i am saying you literally gain no peak hp or tq without a tune on these cars you can have full turboback exhaust, full CAI, bigger fmic, new ic piping and still would have the same stock hp and tq cause the ecu will tune your car down to make it so..... without a tune no matter what mods you do you are still stock

only the cobalt ss/tc the other 2 ss's that were in production didn't have this on there ecu it is affectionately known as the "learn down" system you will NEVER gain peak power from boltons on a cobalt ss/tc unless that system is removed (by a tune) the good news is most people gain about 80 wtq and 50 whp from just a tune :)

No my car was not tuned at this time, so I was only at the 260/260 limit still. Now my car is tuned, dont know hp numbers but I ran a 12.6 at 111 last night.

I beat a stock 2007 mustang gt with my stock 2009 cobalt SS by 0.02 seconds about 3 weeks ago. He pulled me off the line bigtime and i started sneaking up by the 1/8th and barely passed him across the line. seriously, no internet bullshit here, was the closest race I have ever had and I didn't even think I got him till I saw the timeslip. I think it was the no lift shifting that did it. He also said the run was good for him, no missed shifts/over revs... so the cars are crazy close match.

well they both make 260 stock but if u think about power to weight the cobalt would pull they were made to be put up againest the gt but it wont pull hard

If the Cobalt doesn't have a tune the exhaust and intake are not doing much of anything. Might spool a bit faster, that's about it. ECU "learns down" back to 260hp ( Crank )
