  • Bye bye porta potty

  • Gustav was awesome when it was going down. We played football during the storm..... Now sleeping in your car for a week bc it's the only place with a/c, not so much fun : (

  • great video!

  • vmax135 You have the best videos of storms, your camera does not shake a whole lot, good quality, good sound, and you got guts. Well done on your videos!

  • I'd laugh my ass off if I knew that someone was inside that portable toilet.

  • that what you get for living near the gulf of mexico

  • u guys call that rain? in soviet russia...

  • @GabKoost Soviet union and Russia are 2 different names. Soviet union ended i n1991 and became a democracy and had the enw name of Russia.

  • birds must be jus cruisiin in one direction. ha

  • @themancdogg haha yeah with poop goin the same way!

  • this happend right before my bday but i been left louisiana like two days before

  • if i was in the scene about five minutes into this, i would shit my pants!

  • Very nice video indeed. The sounds that can be heard when a hurricane hits are extraordinarily impressive. I can tell you certainly have taken that into account when shooting the footage. Thanks for the posts!

  • @stormtracker05 Agreed

  • Im from Berwick, which is right next to Morgan City, and i can remeber that day like it was yesterday. That was a hardcore storm.

  • Well done storm vid. I actually watched the whole thing. That looks like a scary way to make a living.

  • great video btw!

  • @jjeffcoat1013 Thanks so much!!! Glad you enjoyed it.

  • yall were in bayou vista for the first three minutes of the video right?

  • @jjeffcoat1013 Yep... about three blocks north of 90, on Southeast Blvd. in Bayou Vista.

  • @vmax135 i was pretty sure that was bv just wasnt positive... lol

  • ...rode out Gustav in berwick...just over the bay from morgan city...eye passed with 959 millibars at 1730 UTC...68 kts[80 mph] recorded...not quite on the level of Andrew 1992 [cat3] but a good pounding nevertheless...

  • @stormtracker05 Thanks so much for watching the clip! Yeah, it's possible some of the instantaneous peak gusts got up as high as 110mph, but the highest recorded value I've seen so far was 103mph from another chaser's car-mounted anemometer. The highest official reports from land stations in Louisiana were mostly between 80-90mph.

  • is the eye wall the bad or the good spot

  • @topgun770 thats where the strongest winds are...

  • my dads side of the family lives down there and i didn't talk to them for like a week to even know if they were okay or not thank god they were.

  • ok the 2nd half of the video: THAT STORM WAS RELENTLESS!

  • felizidades , hay pocos videos como estos

que envidia quisiera estar hay gravando

  • max this is a cat 2. woo whats a 3-4-5 like. good vid.

  • @peteboy1113 It's absolutely wicked. South Louisiana native, what you are watching is even hard to imagine living through, the higher cats are absolutely spooky. It's worth it for the re-aquaintance with nature if not anything else. Very humbleing

  • I went through Katrina, in New Orleans, and that was a strong category 3. It was very eerie seeing things flying around and seeing waves rolling down the street.

  • yal se that house in teh middle at 3:18 thats my house and the fence fell thats it HLOY CARP THATS AWESOME

  • ur talking shit xD

  • YAH OK

  • this all happend during my birth day :{

  • is that a man at 1.18.

  • Hurricane Gustav looks like a monster. The power of the driving wind and rain is amazing!

  • amazing video. wish I was there

  • Brings back painful memories. I live in a nearby town. We were without power for 2 weeks. Thankfully, our house didn't have much damage.

  • "We're gonna get blitzed."

  • Weathers like Hurricanes make it feel like you are on an adventure. :)

  • Well...just 6 months later we were celebrating Mardi Gras on the Boulevard where the Medicine Shoppe is located... like it never even happened.

  • most hurricanes in florida end up like this, lots of rain, lots of wind, power might go out... Tips: Have water and candles on hand. Every one i've been in, i haven't had to evacuate, went outside in some, love the rain :P. But these ones in LA...look pretty dangerous

  • anyone know adam malone down that way??? -kentucky

  • Dude! You were in New Iberia there at 6:15 in to the clip. That is the Lowe's parking lot and is exactly where I was in the Chevy Tahoe. Greg Postel can be seen in his chase vehicle- he is from Kansas. Did you see the Tahoe? We had our wind tower set up over the at interchange where you got off of Hwy 90 to come in to the outskirts of New Iberia!

Excellent video indeed. I'll have to send you a copy of my 2008 DVD. Keep up the good work- hope to see you out there in 2009!

  • No way!!! We were all wondering who that was in the parking lot at Lowe's! We definitely saw you guys. What was the peak wind you guys recorded there...and overall during the storm? The DVD would be awesome, thanks so much! I'll send you a copy of my 2008 DVD too.

  • lol what a coincidence..... thats pretyt funny; you guys both ended up at the exact same locatoin and didnt even realize it

  • I saw you also. I was behind that Orange 77 Ventura and my cousin Betto was behind a 1999

    Purple Mustang.

  • That's so cool. About 2:45 in is my moms business they were at, The Coffee Corner.

  • Say what you want about Morgan City but my mother had power 2 days after the storm places around Baton Rouge was powerless for over a month. MC was hit harder than us.

  • gustav really showed its teeth the day after he came thru lafayette la. 1 feeder band pawned tornado after tornado.very unique.the sun was out and funnels were passing everywhere.

  • thumbs up!

  • Nice to see you at work guys! Great video Michael...

  • Thanks so much Jose! Gustav was definitely an amazing and unique chase.

  • i thought the little army clad person in the storm winds was a sign statue at first.wow, was he wearing wieghted shoes?

  • OH MY GOSH! May I call you my hero?? I'm from Morgan City, and I happened to stumble across this video.. I am completely blown away by this. Thanks so much for posting this; it is amazing.

    Katelyn

  • Hi Katelyn.. thanks so much! I'm really glad you liked the video.

  • Hey Michael,

It's been awhile, and I simply wanted to congratulate you on capturing such fantastic footage during your hurricane "Gustav" intercept. As always, your photography and editing skills are outstanding! At some point, I hope to be able to post footage from my recent hurricane "Ike" intercept in Bacliff, Tx., as well as all the others I've documented during the past 5 seasons. Most important of all, I hope you are doing well, and I look forward to talking with you again soon.:)

  • Hi Tony, thanks so much! I'm really glad you liked the Gustav clip. I can hardly wait to see your footage from Ike.

  • Great footage Michael, and pretty awesome driving by Jim. Don't know how he could see out the window, but ya'll made it! WooHoo! :D

And don't listen to a word that guy down there - SCM - has to say. *laughs* Hi Mikey! :P

  • Thanks Christine! Gustav's rainfall definitely put Jim's driving skills to the test...haha! =^)

  • Excellent video! That storm sure did bring in a lot of rain!

  • Thank you so much! During our second intercept of the eyewall, Gustav's rainfall was unbelievable... definitely some of the most intense I've seen.

  • Around 4:30 or so kinda reminds me of driving through one of Katrina's outer rain bands around Daphne, AL just as it was making its second landfall in southern Mississippi.

  • Intercepting the eyewall 3 times man, that's awesome! You're gonna have some great footage for your 2008 Tropical Season Chase DVD!!! Looking forward to it on the big screen.

    SCM

  • Thanks Mike! The Gustav intercept was an incredible experience. And being able to go through an eyewall three times during a single landfall was a first for me!

  • anwersome video!!

  • GREAT! Are there also coast vids?

  • That's a great quality video and a nice blast! Hoping to have one big storm here in the next 3 weeks! See ya in Puerto Rico! haha...

  • AMAZING FOOTAGE, I figured Gustav was going to be bad, not a Katrina event (repeated), but i expected something like this, this is your best footage since 2005. 5/5 + FAVS!

  • All I can say is WOW! Great footage as always. Who was that person standing out there?

  • Thanks Chris!!! The person you see standing out in the middle of it all is cameraman Chris Terrill, who was filming footage for the television production company he works for.

  • Surprising video Michael!! .. this so explicit way of being in the eye and of penetrating again in the eyewall is amazing .. the best video of Gustav, your team is located in the correct place... ;)

  • Thanks Roy!!! We were definitely in a good position to see the best that Gustav had to offer.

  • Kick ass!

  • You have to come with me some time!!! Tell Carl he needs to build a contingency plan so that you can be available to chase. =^)

  • Michael,

As close to a hurricane as I want to be. WOW. Five stars, adding to "'Canes" playlist. Thank you.

    That howling wind--!

    *StormSpinner1* in Texas

  • Thanks so much Karla!!! I'm really glad you liked it. Thanks for adding it to your playlist. =^)

  • Good times!

You're film of the winds back in Lafayette is almost better than I remember it being in person. And some of the gusts you got in the beginning are amazing. Awesome, awesome stuff.

  • Thanks Max!!! Some of those gusts we had in Lafayette were amazing...and this is the 'short' edit, the full version of my Gustav footage is 20 minutes long. It's cool that in such a short time, we've been able to intercept so many different storms. We've probably got more to come in the next few weeks too.

  • Awesome stuff Michael. It looks damn furious and that rainfall is hardcore!!

  • Thanks so much James!!! Gustav wasn't quite as violent as Sinlaku, but it was still fun. You need to come over to this side of the globe sometime... and I need to get over there too...haha.

  • Incredible video!

  • Thanks Craig!!! Gustav was an awesome experience.

  • its amazing its seems the southern eyewall was much worse that the northern part. i always look foward to your videos. thx.

  • Thank you!!! I'm really glad you liked the clip. I hope to have my Hurricane Ike footage from the Florida Keys up soon too. =^)

  • Awesome footage! Love all of your stuff. One of these days I want to experience the power of a hurricane. Seen plenty of tornadoes but never been in a hurricane.

  • Thanks so much!!! I'm sure one of these days you'll get to broaden the chasing horizons...haha.

  • Amazing storm footage Michael. Is that you in the beginning of the video? First time I seen you in front of the camera if so. Great footage once again man!!!

  • Thanks Nathan! I'm glad you like the footage. Yeah, that's me at the beginning, talking to Chris Terrill (the guy with the camera in the back seat).

  • Excellent work Michael, as always amazed by clarity of your videos. 5 stars !

  • Thanks so much Martin!!! I'm really glad you like the footage. I should have my Ike footage from the Keys up pretty soon.

  • Good stuff... heavy pounding rain... I bet you were all wishing more for more of a debris field. How come I didn't get wind about this chase? ;-)

  • Thanks Rob!!! After the weakening trend from the night before, we were really surprised at how strong it actually was the next day. The eyewall convection really got going on the west side and persisted throughout the whole landfall period.
