  • O_o Woooww...

  • Thank you so much for sending me the link to this. when i first saw the message, i thought that it was just gonna be another advertisement, but when i saw the video, i realized you were legit, and not some company trying to make money. thank you so much. not only have these techniques helped me learn this song, but they've also helped me with writing my own. and they also seem to have helped me type this faster. thank you again :)

    Jeff

  • Nice job. It sound plenty clean and crisp!

  • Great "how To Play Intro To "Mean Street. Can't wait till I can learn this intro! Along with Van Halen's new CD comes a DVD of them playing three of VH's best tunes all on acoustic guitars and Alex on Bongos. Awesome. A must see!! This guy makes a great presentation on playing VH songs.

  • thats sexy

  • That was literally perfect

  • Excellent break down! Thank you good sir!

  • Awesome lesson bro. Thank you

  • can i learn speed metal from zero (total noob) in 21 days?

  • whats the name of the song at the end thats so badass it made my computer explode in epicness?

  • @DaBoMb305 It's from a demo of mine for the album I am working on. If you want to check out more just search "Caligulus Supremus Official" on facebook. There is also a link there at my Shred Guitar Academy YouTube page. \m/

  • Amazing tutorial!

  • Liked, and added to Favorites, im gonna learn how to play guitar! SDMF \\nn//

  • i always wonder how eddie came up with something so weird yet amazing

  • Great Job!!! THX Bro been wanting to nail this into for awhile YOUR A Gifted teacher and Player

  • you masto be topu

  • you best!

  • i miss all the old van ha,en stuff iremember plaing the shit out of van halen 2 on my mothers one piece zenith system console with the built in speakers . when you had it up all the way the record would skip cause the needle would bounce.oops!!lol i use to play d.o.a. the most.. they found a dirty faced kid in a garbage can!!!

  • IMO only guy who does it right on here outstanding job man

  • @shaggybx Thanks my friend. What can I say. I'm anal when it comes to playing things correctly. \m/

  • Mate, you make that shit look so easy, your tone and everything was spot on...

  • how much did that guitar cost you?

It sells for $39,000 in Australia...!

  • @poopenschnagger A friend of mine made it. It took him a year and a half in his spare time. But only cost him about $600 in parts. \m/

  • @MetalRiffAcademy good shit! looks very authentic!

  • @MetalRiffAcademy and that is the right way to make that guitar! i cant beleive morons buying it for that abnormal price, when EVH himself made it from scrap material! Cheers!

  • @MetalRiffAcademy holy @#^$

  • @poopenschnagger 39,000! Damn man, you'd be better off purchasing one from here (US) and having it shipped to you because that price is just insane! I saw a few EVH frankenstein's (name of the guitar model) go for around 8-12 thousand, but anywhere over 25Gs is just a complete rip off (unless used by EVH of course). Or as an alternative, just pick up a cheap Jackson guitar similar to Randy Rhoad's, that's what I did and it works fantastically : ]

  • This requires immense amounts of patience...

  • although I do not use similar techniques, but look very cool. Thank you!

  • sehr schön weiter so

  • Thanks great video

  • Great lesson....EVH is nothing short of genius with this stuff.

  • @55slice Most creative Rock/Metal guitar player who ever lived. \m/

  • @MetalRiffAcademy ...while you may not have penned the tune, you're no slacker either...nice chops.

  • @MetalRiffAcademy I agree 100%. I grow tired of hearing people go on and on about his soloing only, though. I see him as the most extraordinary rhythm guitarist. Notable songs that come to mind are, 5150, Top Jimmy, Me Wise Magic, Without You (yes, it's Van Halen III, but the playing in that song is fantastic) I could go on and on. Thanks for the video! Really great stuff!

  • Thank you very much. Very cool your taking your time to share this stuff with us. I really appreciate it.

  • Nice Frankenstrat replica.

20-30 years from now people will still be trying to play classic VH.

EVH is and always will be the SIX STRING KING!

  • superb! great lesson

  • thumbs up thanks for sharing this one , brilliant : )

  • Thank You for this. I have been playing for under a year. (I own a Wlfgang..) I only know how to play the part after the tapping that is pretty much the rythym section. Thank you fro slowing this all down. BTW....is that the $25k Frankenstrat?? I opted to buy a house instead. I want that guitar very badly. Then I can die in peace!!!!

  • @frank23969 No a pal of mine built it for $600 worth of parts. But it took him a year and a half. \m/

  • Mike...

... how 'bout doing Eddie's intro to Source of Infection? I've seen people do it , and the notes seem to sound good, but no one seems to get the exact timing down with the notes.

It would be cool to see someone do and teach the Source of Infecftion intro, properly, that is!

    You sound good, man! :-)

  • @4GuitarTrance I only do Diamond Dave era Van Halen ;P Just kidding. Maybe at some point. My time for making these types of lessons is pretty limited but maybe at some point. \m/

  • Very impressive playing. I'm a hardcore Van Halen fan.

  • Amazing,,,what`s a technic and a tempo.....impossible

  • By far the best lesson I've seen for this song. Ignore the haters. Also, epic tone!

  • Awesome video :D helped me a lot, that's what i call tapping \m/ just one question. In what wood is made that guitar? Thanks a lot Mike n.n

  • @shurikenwarrior13 Pretty sure it's Ash. My friend Greg built it to the same specs as the original. \m/

  • @ShredGuitarAcademy Awesome :D Thanks! That Frankenstrat rocks \m/

  • Thanks so much man!! This is a great lesson!

  • Fucking awesome. My best friend on youtube

  • WOW First time Iv'e seen your vids, and I don't think I can keep up with them but, don't cut us any slack. If you don't push yourself you will never improve.

What a way of meeting people and get to see their talent. At first was reluctant being on youtube, but getting to do this has brought me into the houses of some very special people. You are one of them. Life; isn't it wonderful!

Keep up the good work. Hope You Are Having A Splendid Day!

  • This is the closest i have ever seen anyone get to replicating Eddie's intro

  • cool tappage...

  • holy hell best cover on youtube the trolls are just jealous cause they fail on the guitar for sure

  • Do you have any of Your Own ORIGINAL Songs with Your Own Style Uploaded anywhere?

  • @RevelationWarriors I play in a band called Anatolian Wisdom. We have some videos up. Also all the music at the end of my videos are from demos for the solo album I am working on. I am working on getting some videos up soon of me playing and teaching some of my own stuff. \m/

  • @ShredGuitarAcademy Cool, I'll look you up \M/

  • @mnm1945 I am tuned down a half step and it says that onscreen at 00:40 right before I start teaching how to play it if you have annotations turned on.

  • @MetalRiffAcademy

    oh sorry

  • @mnm1945 Thank you for stating the obvious.

  • Awesome I've been wanting to learn this for so long. It probably take me an hour or so to get right, but damn will it be worth it!

  • Great tutorial !

  • Cool info! And wow, shows a lot of imagination from Eddie to come up with such a thing. Funny how time can make or break a lick, played slow it sounds like a bunch of gibberish. Great camera and you show how to play parts in a patient way imo. "the haters", man, what are they putting in the water where some of these people are from commenting on Youtube(?) I think were in trouble haha. You play it right imo and will be checking back if I want to learn something, thanks.

  • this is so cool!!

  • thx man. and btw, i have a new youtube account. well two actualy. EpicGamers247 and GIFannimations. and yes i know i purposly misspelled Giffannimations.haha.

  • thx for posting, great job!!! gonna learn it

  • wow, you can play guitar...realy good Sir....

  • Best tutorial I've seen and that is one kick ass guitar!

    Cheers bro!

  • @petey604 Thanks \m/

  • This is proof-positive of why EVH is a ROCK GUITAR LEGEND!!!

Sure, he can't pick a zillion notes like some shredders can BUT, he DEFINITELY showed people that there's soooooooo much that the guitar can do; there are no limits.

I don't why people try to dis him. To deny his contribution to the inventiveness when it comes to rock guitar is stupid!

He's unmatched for that alone! The beauty of it all is that he did all of this in the context of GREAT ROCK songs! This ability is a lost art.

  • @kojam Cyber high-fives! IMO he is the most creative and inventive electric guitar player ever. Insanely original musically and in terms of techniques he pioneered. I'm sure a lot of people are unaware of as well his affect on guitar design and gear in general which was equally as huge. He is basically responsible for the super strat style guitar. He pioneered higher gain tones and so many other things. I'm not the biggest Van Halen fan in the world but as a guitar player he is #1 in my books.

  • @petey604 .... Totally agree!!!!!! Thanks MIKE!!!!

  • very nicely done sir

  • That is a wicked guitar. I want it!

  • wow! only eddie could come up with something that would take 10 minutes to teach a 30 second intro

  • Man you got big hands and long fingers like eddie

  • @EVH578 I hate to break it to you but I'm about 5 6" on a good day if I round up a bit with fairly small hands, and I can't say for sure but I think Ed is about the same size as me. They say the camera adds ten pounds, maybe it also makes your fingers appear longer ;) \m/

  • @MetalRiffAcademy Yea Eds fingers are kinda short, pretty much same as urs :) now in my situation i have huge hands (like im huge to1.93 Cm) so i wanna ask u one thing, is this lick tougher for bigger hands, cs ive mastered pretty much every thing in Eddies style (tapping, Harmonics, Whammy, Echo stuff etc) and if yes is there a special technique to master it, i mean i can do 8 finger hammer ons but i can hardly make this one sound anything like normal. . .

  • @MrAppolo777 Geez, I don't know what to suggest. I only have experience having hands my size;P So I don't really know. I used to think having long fingers like Buckethead and Paul Gilbert was where it's at but then I saw Paul talk about how he can't do sweep arpeggios real well and that's probably the reason. Who knows. Just keep at it \m/

  • @ShredGuitarAcademy OK TNX anyways monster lesson. though i have gorillas paws they still shred so ill just stick to it till they bleed mastering this riff, cs its very effective doesn't matter what u play this lick goes well with everything. . . Dig ur lessons, Rock On!!!

  • @EVH578 Go check out Jess Lewis. She's a TINY 17 year old girl who is just about dwarfed by her Strat, and she's incredible. If anyone thinks they're at a disadvantage because they have small hands, this should pick you right up. here she is live this year: /watch?v=ECQSKD6oEbQ

  • thx this is a nice project for me to practice

  • This is a special tie that can also be worn as a thong. But only on Thursdays because icecream has no bones.

  • @akonitony2 Clearly you haven't tried Ben & Jerry's Vanilla Bone Fudge.

  • @MetalRiffAcademy Why I have a container of it here, and so far no bones... wait a minute, what's this?!?!? That's not a bone! Hey, why is the serving size on the nutrition facts label listed as "One Load"?!?!?

  • ARTIST !!

  • Yobroman recommended you, and I thought he was an excellent player, but now I'm not sure who is better... mind sharing a tie?

  • @akonitony2 I suppose I am ok with that but I rarely wear a tie. I prefer to only share underpants \m/

  • Really nice ^_^

  • i watched the intro and thought, fuck it. too hard o.O

  • 5 dislikes???

  • Nicely done, thanks for making this.

  • @ytuseruber Your welcome \m/

  • cool!

  • is that one of the real deal fender replica guitars?

  • @Mockingbird5150 No, but I'd say it's just as good. My friend Greg made it \m/

  • @Mockingbird5150 It sure looks like the 25 grand one that they were selling. Post more, dude. you can play!!! you and Dweezil Zappa need to get together. A lot of similarities in your playing and you both have the ability to teach.

    thanks for your videos.

  • well done! very thorough explanation! now im playing it better!

  • Nice!

  • Thanks for sharing. Altough EVH isn't my style... But I'll give it a shot. :)

  • awesome!

  • very didactic my friend, thanks !

  • @vischop I had to look up what that means and now that I know, thank you! \m/

  • Awesome video, very detailed and high quality. Easy to understand. Reminds me of my own videos :) Don't listen to the haters!

  • Comment removed

  • @PJHAIGHT Thanks my friend. And don't worry there isn't much chance of me listening to or giving a damn about the haters. There is never any shortage of them on YouTube or in life in general. It's hilarious. Take Star Wars for example. It has only 94% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. It wasn't a good enough movie for 6% of reviewers. That 6% could have done better. Only thing is I would bet my life that not even one of those reviewers has ever made a movie or done much of anything else. \m/

  • Jesus <3 you

  • @OnTheLavProductions You talked to him?! Wow! How is he doing!?

  • Cool lesson

  • @guitarbridgecleaner Hmm. Weird. Cuz I thought my friend Greg spent a year & a half building this guitar & awesomely lent it to me for this video. I also thought the Fender replicas go for about 25K & considering the amount of craftsmanship & time that goes into making such a perfect replica I'm not too sure that's not a fair price for someone with the cash. I must have got a wicked deal @ only 10K? Or maybe you are just another internet douchebag who doesn't have a clue what he's talking about?

  • nice job well done....!!!!!

  • nice Frankenstrat... wish I had one of those. I'd start a tribute band for sure

  • Cool lessons and very well played, but why do you update your channel so rare ? \m/

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome man. I don't usually go learn songs from youtube but this was taught really well plus you chose this awesome song which teaches cool techniques too. Couldn't stop myself from getting my guitar out and start practicing this one. \m/

  • cool rep, guitar =)

  • Great!

  • this guy lost me at tap tap mute

  • Awesome! I already learned a lot, thanks to you friend!

  • Wow! That's on the button! I've seen many, many videos on YouTube (and others) and I've yet to see anyone really nail it like this. The rhythm is perfect, the harmonics ring out, the teaching is great...fabulous.

    Keep those vids coming.

    Yo!

  • Am I the only one that finds it hard to believe somebody who can pull of the intro that well and has a pretty decent Frankenstrat replica would actually fuck up the title to the opening track to Fair Warning?? Pehh.. tsk, tsk, tsk..

  • @akgbassguitarkidmsc This is actually from the extra special unreleased version that Van Halen did for the Scorcese movie Mean Streets. It's exactly the same song, but called Mean Streets to go with the film. Unfortunately they recorded the song 8 years too late so it never made it into the final cut of the film. They changed the song to Mean Street in order to not get sued. It makes sense if you don't think about it. \m/
